We crossed into the states on Monday at Sarnia/Port Huron (Blue Water Bridge) around 4pm EST. It was fairly empty, no wait at the border kiosk at all. The guy there was fairly young and didn't really understand what was going on with the visa. There was another guy in the booth with him who asked if I had my packet and if it was still sealed and then they instructed us to pull around the side of the kiosk to go into a building. Inside there was quite a few border guards, none of them had anyone waiting in the lineup.
We got an older gentleman processing our application, he was very friendly and had done visa's before but took a bit to process everything on the computer. The young dude from the kiosk had come inside to see what was up with the visa and to try to learn stuff so it took a little bit longer because he was going through it step by step. The older gentleman asked me if I knew about the clock that started that day and I said "yes I have 90 days to get married and then I must apply for AOS as well as EAD for working and AP if I want to leave for a visit". He seemed fairly impressed that I knew everything so well. He finger printed me and then took a picture, then we went on to import the car which was also super easy as I had the letters from Nissan all easily accessible. Took about 40 minutes to do the whole thing, which wasnt bad at all considering there were a few things he needed to check up on to make sure he was doing things right and that he was training the young lad on how to do things.

Though we did not receive any harassment what so ever, the process was not as smooth as we anticipated. We crossed at 5:30am at Lewiston, and even though there were only 3 people ahead of us, we did not get out of there until 8:30am!!! They were very unorganized and S-L-O-W!!! No one seemed too eager to work lol! Perhaps it was very early? I will say that they were very friendly, but no one seemed to know what they were doing. It is an older location, so once you are in there, you even need to physically be escorted to their outdoor bathrooms! They had to refer to manuals to import my car...and at first even had me start filing out a livestock form for horses by mistake! One person was saying I had to pay duties on my car and they argued that point for a while...We finally got a wonderful young fella that figured everything out and got it done for us. I will say, BE PREPARED! I had to walk them through some of the stuff, just from my knowledge from VJ! lol! In the end, they didn't even ask to see my inventory sheets I had compiled for all my personal belongings in our two cars...all in all, they were very pleasant, just not very organized. In the end, I am just thankful to have closed yet another chapter in my Visa Journey :) |

As a CDN citizen who didn't receive passport stamp or visitation visa, I needed to send a notarized letter describing the details of my entry. |

After my interview at the consulate they gave me a manila envelope.....which was taped and said "DO NOT OPEN". If you open it you will have to start the process all over again. I left from the Montreal airport to enter the U.S. When you go through customs they ask you all the normal information: reason for entering; tell them you are using your K-1 Fiancee Visa for entry. They verify your information on your passport, take your finger prints; then the Officer takes you, along with your passport, and manila envelope to Immigration. In the Immigration office, I just had to sit and wait until my name was called. I also had to fill out the I-94 Card in which they staple inside your passport. The Immigration officer asked me a few questions and that was it! It was honestly nothing to worry about; they didn't even check my bags! |
