My interview was scheduled at 1pm. I reached the embassy at 12:30. However, they did not allow me in until 1pm so I and few other candidates were standing beside the busiest main road in Sri Lanka (Galle Road) for half an hour which was not that a pleasant experience at all, specially at a temperate of 86.2F. I suggest you advise the future Sri Lankan candidates to arrive in not too early but with a bottle of water to keep them hydrated! Once they let me in, it was a very pleasant experience. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Once I cleared the security process, I had to go through 3 counters. Counter #1: Checked whether all my documents are complete. Asked me for my official birth certificate as they did not have it. I informed her that I was asked by the NVC to submit the updated I-864A form of the co-sponsor but the lady told me that I do not require a co-sponsor as my husband already meets the financial requirement. Asked me for my new photographs and the medical reports Counter #2: She showed my passport and asked me "Is this you?" and I said "Yes" Counter #3. Took my finger prints. Few mins later, the same counter announced my interview room ( Room #5) Room #5 When I entered the room, I realized that I was standing in the small booth and there was a bullet proof glass in front of me ( just like at a bank) and the consulate was sitting beyond the glass. I was standing throughout the interview. Questions What is the name of your husband? Can you tell me when he was born? Where was he born? What's his job? How did you meet? Where did you get married? When did he first meet you? Did he visit you since then? What are his hobbies? Can I see some of your pictures? Situation I didn't present my photos in a stack. Instead, I had a big family album. He asked me to turn the pages as our family album cannot get in through the glass. He enjoyed about 8-9 pages of the album. Few seconds later.. "Well, everything looks good to me... Let me see when your visa will be available for you" He talked to some other guy in the room and came back to his seat and said " Your visa will be available for you on Dec 05th. You can collect it from the gate. Until such time, we're going to hold onto your passport" I said " Thank you very much sir, I'd really appreciate it" He said " Thank you for coming" and I said " God Bless You Sir" His response was " Thank you" .......................... That was it :) He looked very kind and had a warming personality. He neither did test my patience nor knowledge in-depth. I felt like I was talking to a person who wants to get to know me better as a friend. I was very comfortable and really enjoyed it. Our conversation lasted only for about 5-7 mins. I walked in at 1pm and was back in the car by 2pm. Hope this information will help anyone who needs it :) 2017-05-16
