After all the experience gathered in the process, I must clarify for those of you that, like me before, didn't know clearly what was this: the AP is a document that ENABLES YOU TO REENTER (to leave, you can do it whenever you want, you're free) the US if you'd need to go back home, ONLY DURING THE PERIOD OF TIME BETWEEN YOUR APPLICATION FOR THE AOS AND THE DAY YOU HAVE YOUR GREENCARD IN HAND. Why? Because although the AP is valid for 1 year and can be used for multiples re-entries, ONCE YOU HAVE YOUR GREENCARD, THE AP DOESN'T HAVE ANY USE, as you legally reside in the US, and therefore you can leave and come back as you wish.
At least, this is what I've learnt so far fighting this endless paperwork. Hope it helps. |
