We were there about 45 minutes early and the woman would NOT check us in until 30 minutes before the appointment. I think she said the system wouldn't let her check us in earlier. No big deal. We took a seat for 15 minutes, went back up again and she checked us in, gave us a number and told us to sit by a particular window. Within minutes we were called to that window for a photo and fingerprints (only the index fingers this time). Then they directed us to another waiting area for the actual interview. There we sat for maybe 10 minutes. They had monitors with numbers displaying and people would get up and go to where the monitor directed them. But for us... this woman came out unannounced and walked right up to us and addressed my wife by name. She clearly saw my wife's photos from the paperwork already available to her. She led us to her office and then the interview got underway. The first thing she did was have us both take the oath. Then she began asking my wife questions. During the entire interview she asked me only one question. She asked me how many siblings my wife had and then my job was done for the day. My wife, on the other hand, was asked somewhere in the neighborhood of 30-35 questions... assorted shapes and sizes. The woman was VERY polite and nice but I was surprised by the number of questions when others on this website seemed to suggest they got only a few questions. I guess it just depends on the agent you get. Again, the agent we had was very nice. We both liked her very much. Some of the questions I can recall are: 1) What is the color of our shower curtain? 2) How many bathrooms and bedrooms in our apartment? 3) How many sibings does your husband have? 4) Does your husband have a good relationship with your mom and son? 5) When and where did he propose? Then the agent picked a select number of those yes/no questions on the I-485 form and asked them. The only glitch was they had to redo her photo and fingerprints because of some system issue. My wife was worried it was something about her fingerprints that messed something up. We had three agents huddled around the computer trying to diagnose the problem. They reassured my wife it had nothing to do with her. I thought they were going to do a third try at the photos and fingerprints when suddenly the issue was resolved. The other two agents left and our agent said we were approved, explained the ROC process and we were done. The key is to relax. My wife was rather nervous, misstated some things, etc. but our agent was very understanding. No need to be nervous. I don't think they're looking to deny you. They're just making sure you really are a couple. | 2024-03-19

The officer interview my wife(applicant) first, she ask the passport of my wife and my ID, I gave the officer my state ID and US passport then, the officer ask personal information to my wife. Mostly whatever you see on your AOS form application. From her name, b-date, till the last page of that AOS form, like name of the parents, place of birth, current address. etc. So just study the AOS form that you submitted. Then the officer ask both of us, how we met, what year, and then ask us our Marriage Cert, our joint records, like bank statements that has our names on it, least of our house, I provided also life insurance and my beneficiary is my wife. Also she ask the date or our marriage, what place we went on our honeymoon. Then pictures, we have lots of pictures like 80 but the officer took only 12. My pay stubs and employment letter wasn't ask though. But the officer saw the direct deposit from the company I work with on our join bank statement. That might be the reason she didn't ask about the pay stubs and employment letter. Then the officer ask us to wait 10 mins for the decision. Then 10 mins later my wife got approved! It was easy, ask long us you prep everything. | 2024-04-09

Critically important for people to remember that the I-485 needs to be signed by the applicant and the officer during the interview. My wife was not asked to sign during the interview, and that set us back 10 weeks. Not sure why we could not have been called in sooner. The worst part was wondering what the heck was going on. They don't inform you that the delay is due to a missing signature, and it's a matter of finding time in the schedule to get you back. They provide no information, so you have to prepare for any contingency. I almost hired a lawyer, but we were doing lots of research and stumbled on the issue of the signature, and my wife definitely remembered that she did not sign anything during the interview. | 2022-11-15

The officer spent about 20 minutes asking questions about the development of our relationship. She didn't directed any question to one or the other, so we tried to take turns answering. She was typing all the time, and asked us to speak slower, because she was trying to register everything, as it would be useful for future processes. E.g.: When and how did you meet? How did you communicate back then? When did the relationship become romantic? How many times did you visited each other? Did you live together before marriage? Who was there in the wedding day? Where was it? What did you do after the courthouse? Then she asked if we had further evidence to provide, stating at the same time that what we sent in the initial package was enough. She didn't even looked at them, just said it would be good for removing conditions. She didn't really care about my J1 waiver, but said would keep a copy "just in case". (That was a bit frustrating, considering that obtaining the J1 waiver was a very stressful process haha). That was followed by confirming questions on I-864 and I-485. She said "let me see if I can make my decision today" and took about 10 minutes in her computer, but kept small talking to us. She approved on the spot, gave me an approval letter and explained the ROC process. We were still in the building when I got approval text notification. | 2024-07-15

The letter which we were given at the interview told us to please wait at least 120 days and at that point we may make an inquiry through the national customer service center or we may request an infopass appointment. The letter was had the name of the local field office director in Baltimore. At 122 days I called the national customer service center requesting an infopass appointment, was routed to tier 2, and was told its not a thing to request an infopass for case update. I asked for him to please explain to me why the field office director would have letters issued with his name and title on the bottom of the letter if its not a thing? They Tier 2 officer kept on talking in circles and really couldn’t give me an answer. I asked him for the email address for the officer handling my case so I could reach out directly. He said he didn’t have it. I asked for him to call the local Baltimore field office. They said he can’t do it but maybe he supervisor could. So he put me on hold and got his supervisor. This supervisor told me the same thing. That the prior officer was correct and that infopass appointments are not for case status updates and he couldn’t speak to the letter that I received. He told me I could complain to the ombudsman about the letter. I told him I have no interest in making a complaint as that does not solve my issue at hand. He then advised for me to make an online inquiry. I told him we both know that it’s a waste of time and it wont get anyone moving on the case. He didn’t acknowledge this directly but seemed to agree with me. I asked him to call the local office and the officer handling my case to see what was going on. He said he couldn’t do that. I asked him what else I could do. He advised for me to write a letter to the local field office director that was listed on the case. I basically did a pre writ of mandamus letter. Outlined my concerns and said I was reaching out prior to filing a writ of mandamus and that I wanted the case to be adjudicated as its been over 120 days since the interview. I found the email address for the field office director online and sent it to him via email and also sent signed receipt certified mail delivery via USPS. That letter was received on Monday and on Tuesday morning at 9am I received a notification that the case was updated to “New Card is being producedâ€. I would suggest to push and push if its been over 120 days.. No reason to keep people waiting this long when other offices approve on the spot. | 2023-08-22
