After 2 months, we found out our case file was \"missing\" and could not be processed until it surfaced. After speaking with someone lost for 15 years, we decided to return to SA and try DCF in a few years. After leaving, we sent notice to NYC office, and to BCIS. Despite this, we got the green card in the mail 6 months later!!! | 2006-02-19 | ||||

Make sure you follow the filing and interview appointment instructions exactly. If your case is straight forward and if you can follow instructions, you do not need a lawyer. It is a waste of money because all they do is wait with you and then tell you the following: For the Interview, they are only trying to determine if it is a valid marriage. The officer said that 1/2 of all marriages that he sees are an attempt by the immigrant to gain citizenship by deceiving the American citizen. They can usually tell in the first few minutes if the marriage is valid. One indication that it is not, is if the couple is trying to hard to convince INS that they are a couple.
