Review Topic: K1 Visa

-embassy appointment time is 9:45am, arrived at the embassy around 9:am.
-security check, the guard took my cell phone and thumb drive. then they told me after the door turn left, then I walk until I reach the second security door or information, then after that I reach the embassy lobby and one lady approached me and helped me to which department I have to go in. then she told me to get a queue number. inside that room there's a lot of applicants sitting there, so I sit down and relax for about 10 minutes my number was called at window 7, the first interviewer was a Chinese guy, he gave me my xray and after that he ask my passport, form I-134, ds156k and ds156 (2copy) but guys do not just photocopy the ds156 because they need your actual signature not just photocopy. So in my case He gave me another form of ds156 to fill up and sign. he let me sit down first. and while doing my ds156 form he call another applicant, so I have to wait again until the next applicant is done. after that he call me again, then I gave the ds156, he ask my birth certificate (don't forget to photocopy your birth certificate because they need it.)and police clearance, then we start for the question and answer:

1.What is your status here in Singapore?
2.How do you met your fiancé?
3.yuo met thru your common friend, what is relation of your common friend to you and to your fiancé?
4.when, where and how u meet in person?
5.when was the last time you've meet in person?
6.Does your fiancé sending you money?
7.Are you married before? or never been married?
8.Does your fiancé married before or never been married?
9.Do you have children?
10.Does your fiancé have children?
11. did you two adopt children?
after that he ask the photo's and proof of our on-going relationship, and he gave me the Aramex form and ask me if I read the Domestic violence package. if you have not read that he will give you a copy.

then he told me to sit down first and wait for the second interviewer (American Guy) to call my name. After around 10-15 minutes the 2nd interviewer called my name at window 6.

-First he gave me the ds 156 and computer printout to verify details.
-after that fingerprinting.
-then we start the question and answer portion.

1.What is your Fiancés name?
2.how do u met your fiancé?
3.When, where and how u meet in person?
4.what did the both of u do when u first meet?
5.how she migrates to US?
6.Before she go to US what is her doing in her country?
7.what is her doing in US except for her job?
8.Did u meet her family?
9.How many sister and brother she have?
Then he look at Form I-134, our pictures together and proof of our on-going relationship (like YM conversation record, Skype call and conversations with our video call pictures. and our yahoo mail conversations. and that's it. its done.

-he told me to register at aramex when I get home, and I asked him what should I tell to my fiancé regarding the status of my interview? then he reply "your interview seems to be ok."... Yessss!!!! feel relief... Then I ask his name, he is Chris Boak? sorry I didn't remember his surname but it sounds like that and I thank him.

Then I go home with a big smile on my face

Thanks everyone.

Review Topic: K1 Visa

Smooth process, excellent consulate - in short.

Now for the long story.

- Interview slot at 9.45am; arrived at the embassy at 9.00am.

- Went through security check at the gate to surrender electronic devices. (Guys, make sure you check with the security guard where you should go because there was also a queue for non-immigrant visas in the open space)

- Interview hall has a mix of people interviewing for both immigrant and non-immigrant visas, for immigrant visas, our counter should be at counter seven.

- I was called immediately because the Chinese lady before me seemed to have forgotten something. (Guess it pays to be early and well-prepared!)

- Officer A is a nice young chap. I told him I was here for K1 visa and he confirmed my name before leaving to retrieve my data.

- After five seconds (I was surprised! Almost instantly things magically appeared!), he came back with my documents and returned my X-rays first. (Guys, please bring a huge plastic/paper bag to carry those home!)

- Next, he asked for my documents in accordance to the instructions given to you in Packet 3 ie. DS156, DS156K, passport, police certificates etc...

- After he collected all documents, he started asking the following questions:
1. What's your marital status? Single as in never married?
2. Do the both of you have children?
3. Do the both of you have children previously?
4. Did you adopt any children?
5. Tell me about his current job.
6. How did you both met?
7. How many times have you been to the US? And him, to Singapore?

- He went through my stuff again and I told him my fiance will be switching jobs after this interview. I pointed him to the letter of offer and he asked for our bank statements, which I don't have. I only brought a confirmation email from one of his bank accounts. Started to panic in my heart, but I know I have plenty of evidence elsewhere including a house. So perhaps the officer was trying to test me. Anyway, he ended by saying the next interviewing officer will confirm this.

- Then, he closed the stack of documents, together with the paper he was taking notes on. He asked if I have read the domestic violence article, which I replied yes to. His reply was "that's great because this is important. You may have a test later." (Jaw dropped!)

- Later, he passed me instructions for Aramex and told me to take a seat for the second interview.

- After about 10-15 minutes, I was called to counter six through the PA system. We began with Officer B showing me two documents (DS230 and basic particulars) for me to check and sign.

- We proceeded on to do the fingerprints.

- Interview process came next. Questions asked were pretty much similar to the first. We chatted a little about what I want to do in the US and also the fiance's new employment. At this point, he became serious and said should the fiance get a new employment, here's what I am supposed to do. Get him to... I knew what he was going to say because he missed out the letter of offer stuck in between the papers. (Dang, he was about to disapprove verbally, I could feel it!)

- Nervous. But I managed to get myself together and pointed him to the letter of offer. The officer checked through it, had a few questions and then looked at me to tell me "alright, you're good!"

- RELIEVED.

- He gave me more instructions on Aramex and asked if I have any further questions. I said no, thanked him and left. WOOHOO.

------
Additional drama

Well, when I went back to the security house, I was asked to go back. I was like shit. What happened!

Apparently, they forgot to return my original birth certificate. -.- Haha.

Phew. Breathe a sigh of relief! Thank God! Everything was completed within an hour. Thank you for all those who have helped me in this forum!

Review Topic: K1 Visa

My interview slot was 1:30pm on 13th Sept.. When I got to the consulate, there were barely any people waiting at the waiting area (which was a vast difference from my previous visit, I was there for a 8:15 am slot in March 2012, and the waiting shack and waiting room were both crowded).

1:04pm - arrived at consulate, told guard my purpose there (he did not need to see the appointment letter) I was 6th in line.

1:12pm or so - Got called in for the security check (the two guys who got in front of me in the queue dumped their water.. I asked the guard if I could bring mine in and he said yes, the two guys looked at each other in a "oh damn it" way =p) Deposited phone and thumbdrive at the security counter, got a number tag for them.

Went through another security check, and then I got to the interview/waiting room and pressed the first button on the queue number machine, my number was 008.

1:30pm - the numbers started beeping for Window 7, the first guy who went up (005) was petitioning for his mother, he had a lot of questions, so he was at the window for half an hour or so. By then, some of the other windows had opened, and the non-immigrant visa people were being called to their windows (Window 2 for everyone, and then they went to some other windows)

All in all, there were 7 people who had queue numbers for immigrant visas (1 family-member petition, 2 I-130 petitions, 1 family who pressed the wrong button, and 1 family who wanted to turn their green cards in).

3:02pm - my number was called to Window 7. The interviewer guy (I think he is also the guy who answers the phone) asked for my name and passport, then he went away to bring my file out. He didn't seem to mind me writing down his questions as he asked me for documents and questioned me at the same time. ( I had my docs all labelled and sorted, so getting them to him was a breeze. He returned a couple of the income documents, I forgot what they were.)

Questions:
1) What's your marital status?
2) What's your fiance's marital status? Where does he live?
3) When was the marriage terminated?
4) How many children does he have from the first marriage? What's the age of the youngest and oldest? (I had trouble doing my math for the middle child's age, lol, so he just asked for youngest and oldest)
5) What's his job title?
6) Since when has he been working on this job?
7) What's his income?
8) How did you meet? What website? (he didn't need me to spell it, though he said it's not a common website =p)
9) When did we get to know each other?
10) When did we meet? How many times did we meet? Where did we meet?

Then he asked if we took pictures of us that wasn't in the I-129F file, and I asked how many he wanted. He said 3-4, I gave him our stack (about 10 or so). (He also said that some people bring 5000 pictures to the interview, and are sad that they don't want to see all of them )

He also asked if I read the Domestic Violence letter, and then he got me to sit down again (after giving me document submission form and aramex instructions). That took about 15 minutes, I think.

There was the one family waiting to turn in their green cards, they were after me in queue number and first interview, but I think the consulate officer kept me to the last. =o (I happened to be seated right in front of him. Think he was looking at me a few times or something.)

4:05 - Got called to Window 6, but consulate officer had to attend some department thing, so he gave me the DS-156 and a computer printout to verify details. (There is a draft blowing out of the window from the office, it is drying )

4:20pm - Consulate officer returned, went back to get his glasses, and returned again. I asked him about the expiry of my visa thing (2 Nov 2013 was printed on the printout), he said it's when my medical expires. I was like, omg!!! (Considering this is Sep 13 I am having my interview) So he asked what the matter was. I said the window for me to leave the country after getting the visa is really small, he laughed and said, we aren't there yet!! =p

We did fingerprints first. I did not write most of the questions down, but here's a rough outline:

- Age difference ("You know what I'm going to ask you." I looked blankly at him. "Age difference." It took more question-simplyfing before we finally decided to talk about how the fiance and I met.)
- Fiance's children ("Tell me more about his children." "What do you want to know about them?" I asked. He shrugged and said, "Anything. I don't have specific questions in mind." Kind of a wtf? moment, but oh well =p)
- How many times we met in person, when and where (he also asked where else the fiance has travelled to, and did we only stay in SG when he visited.)
- What does the fiance work as (we talked about his company, company size, what the company does, what fiance does in company)
- When are you planning to travel to the States?
- How do you guys communicate with each other?

Twice I asked if he wanted more evidence (he just flipped through the photos that I gave the first guy), and twice he declined, he said he preferred to talk to people on both times.

At the end, I still couldn't decide if he was going to approve or deny our case (he is pretty unreadable) so I volunteered to tell him more on the age difference thing, he said okay and listened to what I had to say.

Then he asked if I've read the domestic violence package, and said that tells me my rights in the States. He went on to talk about Aramex (the first guy said to register asap with Aramex).. So I asked, Does that mean I'm approved? He said, I can only give you an informal approval at this point, you're formally approved when you get the visa.

I clarified the 2nd Nov expiry with him, he said I could get another medical to extend that deadline. @_@ Omg!!

So I thanked him and left, I was the only interviewee left in the waiting room even before he returned from his really long break. :o Wow.

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

After hearing from previous VJ member about the Consulate starting to ask for more documents during the interview, we tried to prepare as much as we can for the interview. Here is a brief list of thing we brought to the interview:
_ Copies of whatever you submitted to the USCIS and NVC (I-130 package, DS-230 package, I-864 package).
_ Updated financial documents for the main sponsor and the joint sponsor (bank statements, payslip, latest tax return).
_ Proof of relationship (a lot of photo, ticket stub, joint lease contract, etc…)
_ Interview documents (interview letter, NVC emails, etc…)

We came to the interview at around 12:15PM and we had to wait outside until around 1:00PM. After that, we were called to form a line in front of the security guard and started to enter the Consulate one by one. After passing through all the security check, you enter the first door in the left, which is the visa section. Take your queue number for immigrant visa and take a sit, they will start calling you to the windows for the interview.

Depending on the time of your interview, the first interviewer will be either a lady or a guy. He will be checking all the things you had sent to the NVC and ask you all sort of documents. He asked my wife for my bank account statement and photo, as well as her original birth certificate and our marriage certificate (we submitted certified copies to the NVC). He is a strict but nice guy, as long as you understand and answer his questions correctly, you shouldn’t have any problem. Please note that if you want to join in the interview, you can but you cannot participate. The officers will ask you to sit down while they interview your wife/fiancée.
Here are the questions they asked my wife:
1. What are you doing here in Singapore (he will ask to see your IC (EP, DP or S-Pass or your Singaporean citizenship card, don’t forget to bring them ?
2. How did you first meet each other ?
3. Petitioner’s job, basic info such as age, position, etc…
4. Information about the joint sponsor (we had one): relationship to the petitioner, current job, location, etc…
5. Photo documenting the relationship (wedding, first meeting, etc…).
They are particularly interested in financial information of the sponsor for the petition so please prepare to bring all the bank statements and latest pay slips. They WILL DEFINITELY ask for it.

After the 1st interview, we waited like an hour for the second interviewer. He’s an American but he looks pretty chilled so you can rest assured. He basically confirmed all the information you provided to the first interviewer as well as confirm things that he’s interested in knowing.
Here are the questions he asked my wife:
1. What were both of you doing when you first met ?
2. Where are you going to live after getting back to the States ?
3. What is your plan after getting back to the States ?
4. How did you first meet each other?
5. What are you and your husband doing in Singapore ?
6. When do you plan to get back to the States ?
After that, he will tell you whether your interview is a success or not and take your fingerprints. Sometimes, he might forget to take your fingerprints after the interview. DON’T FORGET TO REMIND HIM. Otherwise, he will call you up and ask you to return to the Embassy for the fingerprint.
So yeah, if you don’t get any 221(g) or any form aside from the Domestic Violence info sheet and the instruction to register with Aramex for the delivery of your VISA and passport, your interview is a success. Congratulations !! Don’t forget to thank both of them for the interview before you leave, it’s not mandatory but it’s a nice thing to do.
Good luck with your upcoming interview. Hope this guide helps  !
