Review Topic: K1 Visa

My interview slot was 1:30pm on 13th Sept.. When I got to the consulate, there were barely any people waiting at the waiting area (which was a vast difference from my previous visit, I was there for a 8:15 am slot in March 2012, and the waiting shack and waiting room were both crowded).

1:04pm - arrived at consulate, told guard my purpose there (he did not need to see the appointment letter) I was 6th in line.

1:12pm or so - Got called in for the security check (the two guys who got in front of me in the queue dumped their water.. I asked the guard if I could bring mine in and he said yes, the two guys looked at each other in a "oh damn it" way =p) Deposited phone and thumbdrive at the security counter, got a number tag for them.

Went through another security check, and then I got to the interview/waiting room and pressed the first button on the queue number machine, my number was 008.

1:30pm - the numbers started beeping for Window 7, the first guy who went up (005) was petitioning for his mother, he had a lot of questions, so he was at the window for half an hour or so. By then, some of the other windows had opened, and the non-immigrant visa people were being called to their windows (Window 2 for everyone, and then they went to some other windows)

All in all, there were 7 people who had queue numbers for immigrant visas (1 family-member petition, 2 I-130 petitions, 1 family who pressed the wrong button, and 1 family who wanted to turn their green cards in).

3:02pm - my number was called to Window 7. The interviewer guy (I think he is also the guy who answers the phone) asked for my name and passport, then he went away to bring my file out. He didn't seem to mind me writing down his questions as he asked me for documents and questioned me at the same time. ( I had my docs all labelled and sorted, so getting them to him was a breeze. He returned a couple of the income documents, I forgot what they were.)

Questions:
1) What's your marital status?
2) What's your fiance's marital status? Where does he live?
3) When was the marriage terminated?
4) How many children does he have from the first marriage? What's the age of the youngest and oldest? (I had trouble doing my math for the middle child's age, lol, so he just asked for youngest and oldest)
5) What's his job title?
6) Since when has he been working on this job?
7) What's his income?
8) How did you meet? What website? (he didn't need me to spell it, though he said it's not a common website =p)
9) When did we get to know each other?
10) When did we meet? How many times did we meet? Where did we meet?

Then he asked if we took pictures of us that wasn't in the I-129F file, and I asked how many he wanted. He said 3-4, I gave him our stack (about 10 or so). (He also said that some people bring 5000 pictures to the interview, and are sad that they don't want to see all of them )

He also asked if I read the Domestic Violence letter, and then he got me to sit down again (after giving me document submission form and aramex instructions). That took about 15 minutes, I think.

There was the one family waiting to turn in their green cards, they were after me in queue number and first interview, but I think the consulate officer kept me to the last. =o (I happened to be seated right in front of him. Think he was looking at me a few times or something.)

4:05 - Got called to Window 6, but consulate officer had to attend some department thing, so he gave me the DS-156 and a computer printout to verify details. (There is a draft blowing out of the window from the office, it is drying )

4:20pm - Consulate officer returned, went back to get his glasses, and returned again. I asked him about the expiry of my visa thing (2 Nov 2013 was printed on the printout), he said it's when my medical expires. I was like, omg!!! (Considering this is Sep 13 I am having my interview) So he asked what the matter was. I said the window for me to leave the country after getting the visa is really small, he laughed and said, we aren't there yet!! =p

We did fingerprints first. I did not write most of the questions down, but here's a rough outline:

- Age difference ("You know what I'm going to ask you." I looked blankly at him. "Age difference." It took more question-simplyfing before we finally decided to talk about how the fiance and I met.)
- Fiance's children ("Tell me more about his children." "What do you want to know about them?" I asked. He shrugged and said, "Anything. I don't have specific questions in mind." Kind of a wtf? moment, but oh well =p)
- How many times we met in person, when and where (he also asked where else the fiance has travelled to, and did we only stay in SG when he visited.)
- What does the fiance work as (we talked about his company, company size, what the company does, what fiance does in company)
- When are you planning to travel to the States?
- How do you guys communicate with each other?

Twice I asked if he wanted more evidence (he just flipped through the photos that I gave the first guy), and twice he declined, he said he preferred to talk to people on both times.

At the end, I still couldn't decide if he was going to approve or deny our case (he is pretty unreadable) so I volunteered to tell him more on the age difference thing, he said okay and listened to what I had to say.

Then he asked if I've read the domestic violence package, and said that tells me my rights in the States. He went on to talk about Aramex (the first guy said to register asap with Aramex).. So I asked, Does that mean I'm approved? He said, I can only give you an informal approval at this point, you're formally approved when you get the visa.

I clarified the 2nd Nov expiry with him, he said I could get another medical to extend that deadline. @_@ Omg!!

So I thanked him and left, I was the only interviewee left in the waiting room even before he returned from his really long break. :o Wow.
