Review Topic: K1 Visa

Here is my fiancée’s experience with her K-1 interview in Islamabad on March 27, 2009

You go to the shuttle service place and wait in line for the shuttle. The women have a separate line and the men a separate one. The women's line moves a lot slower. The shuttle costs Rs. 200 for one person. You have to deposit your cell phone before you get on the shuttle. There is no charge for that you also have to deposit your bag, but only if you have a large bag, which she did. If they make you deposit it, make sure you double check that you take all you important belongings out of it like documents and your wallet.

It is about a 10-15 min ride to the embassy. They drop you right outside. Only people who have applied for the visa are allowed to go in at this point. If it is an immigrant case, you do not have to wait too long in the line because there’s usually not a lot of immigrant visa cases. The guard then lets you inside, where you are directed inside a room for finger printing. You must have your interview letter out at this point because the finger print people take it from you. Once the finger printing is done you go wait inside the waiting room with everyone else there are tons of counters over there where you are interviewed. You are first called to pay the immigration fee, and at that point the person asks what language you want to take the interview in. After that you are called again at another window where the person makes you sign one of the forms and you take an oath. After that you have to wait for a few more mins until you are finally called for your interview. During the interview the CO was shuffling through the papers and asked where we met. He continued to shuffle papers and then started looking through the pictures she provided. He thought it was strange that I was a white American yet I had a Pakistani last name. My last name is actually Irish but apparently it is also the same as a family in Karachi (im sure elsewhere in Pakistan as well). He noted that she has a visa waiver in her passport (she was born in scotland so she is a british citizen). He then told her that she could have just come on the visa waiver and gotten married. Everyone we had talked to about this process advised not to go that path, as technically that is illegal and fraudulent. Funny now that we had to wait 8-9 months that the CO tells us we should have just done that. I think he asked her 1 or 2 other questions about what she plans on doing once she arrives in the US for work/school. Then he told her that she can pick up her visa in 7 days. By the time she got to the embassy until the time she left the embassy it took her about an hour and a half.

Review Topic: K3 Visa

I got to the shuttle service at 6am, then I finally got to the embassy at like 7am and they took my cell phone. When I got in I was called to pay for a fee, then called to submit documents (medical and then the other documents). Then I was called for finger printing. After some time went by I was finally called by an office he was white with a short brown beard. He asked me "how are you" I said "I am good". He then asked me my wife's name and I responded. He asked me "when did we meet, how did we meet" and I responded. He then asked the dates she came here first and when we married and how many times she came here. Then he said he will call me back again. Then he called me again to the window and asked me a few more basic questions. Then he said he will call me again. He called me again eventually and he asked to see the photos. He looked at them smiling and returned them to me. He did not ask me anything about more evidence for our relationship-which shocked me. I thought he would request more documents like letters and emails, but he did not. He then handed me back the marriage papers and other things he did not need and kept my passport. I said "is my passport with me or you"? He said "you will get your passport back with your visa from American Express". Then that was pretty much the end. If you need more answers about specific questions then feel free to message me.

Review Topic: General Review

Our interview was scheduled by the NVC on february 5th.We left sialkot at 1 am on 5th of february and reaached islamabad(faizabad) at 5.30am.We hired a taxi and headed towards convention centre.eversince this stupid war on terror, the beautiful city of islamabad has been changed to bunker island.a lot hurldes and blocekd roads.so,i suggest people going to the embassy to leave early.
Then we reached diplomatic shuttle service center.
Note:You cant go to the embassy all by yourself wether youare on a taxi or you have your own car.You have to go to convention center and then to the diplomatic shuttle service to go to the embassy.
Their we handed our bags and cell phones at the counters reserved for the purpose.cell phones are not allowed.
then we waited there and after getting the tickets we boarded a shuttle but we had to go througha thorough security check.
In half an hour we were at the american embassy.
Again we had to go through a security check.
then again just before entering the embassy we were stopped and again another security check.
we waited outside the consulate section.
after about 20 minutes we were called for finger prints(biometrics) a guy helped us who was there to help people with that.
then we were allowed to enter the consulate section.
aftr an hour my mom was called and she submitted the passports.
after another 20 minutes we were called and we submitted our medical papers, birth certificates my moms and a guy asked i we had a connection with any terrorist organization.the answer was obviously,NO.this question was asked to all of the people.
then after anoher 20 minuteswe were called for interview.
the lady who was white american was very pleasant and asked which language would u like to b interviewed.my mom said urdu.
then she said in urdu,"i know a little bit of urdu".
she stood up and called another lady who was the interpreter.
the lady kep asking questions for about 5 minutes.
she was very friendly and asked some of the questions in urdu.
she asked the following questions
1.who is calling you to america?
2.how long has your sister(my moms sister who was also the petitioner) been living in the US?
3.how did she moved to the US?
4.how come she was married to an american(my moms sister was married to a US citizen who moved a pakistani by birth and moved to america)?
5.was that an arranged marriage?
6.how many kidsdoes she have?
7.tell me the names of the kids?
8.are they the same age as your kids?
9.the only question she asked to us(me and my brother) was that when were they here last time?
10.then she asked for original birth certificate and marriage certificate of my aunt which my mom didnt have.although we had notarized copies they refused them saying we need to see original.
11.she said affidavit od support doesnt meet the required income neccessary to support you peope and u need a co-sponsor.
during the interview she noted i could understand english and she pointed her finger towards me and said in urdu ,"u can speak english".lol
my mom said we ourself are wealthy enough to support ourselves their and offered them to show our bank statements she refused to see saying we dont see them we see those sent by the petitioner and co-sponsors.
then she asked where we live in pakistan and gaveusa purple slip and giving us the address of the courier service in sialkot to sned them the documents listed on the slip.
she said all of you will be given visas as soon as you send the documents requested.
she put stikcers on the passports and gave us the other parts of the stickers and said ucan recieve ur passports once u recieve ur passports.
my mom asked how much time its gonna take untill we are issued visas.she said it depends on how early you send those documents.
then i asked my mom to ask her if i m stilleligible to to immigrate(because i turned 21 on jan24,2009 ndthe interview was on feb5,2009).she said,"your child has been protectedjavascript:emoticon('') and because the petition was filled a long time ago when i was not 21.so,i can go with my parents".
so,people CSPA(child status protection act) works.
although i had all the papers to show that i was stilleligible i didnt have to show them.
she herself taked to me and said u are ok dont worry.
in short the interview was pleasant and the officer was really nice.
Note:This case was F4(sisters and brothers of US citizens).
and i and my brother and my father were derivative beneficiaries.
me and my brother were asked only one question.my father wasnt asked a singl question.

Review Topic: K3 Visa

My husband woke up bright and early and went to the embassy! He got there 4 hours early and he was told to wait. He got to his officer for the interview finally and was very nervous. (I did not go with him to the interview, I am still in the USA). At any rate they asked him over 30 questions. 1. How long did you know your wife before you met her? 2. What is your wife's full name? 3. Why do you love your wife and why did you want to marry an American? 4. What made you go online to meet a wife to relocate to the USA? 5. Can I see some evidence of your marriage?<-Just to name a few of his questions. The interviewer was an American man with dark hair and he was very stern voiced. He told my husband he was approved and could pick up his visa and passport in a few weeks. So, I guess no AP! :0)
