The interview was rather standard if you've been following all the other Malaysian timelines.

I was scheduled for 9 a.m. Despite being stuck in the Kuala Lumpur traffic jam, I arrived with 15 minutes to spare and began waiting outside the embassy.

I was let in around 8.55 a.m. where I was led into a room and given an interview documents checklist. I was told to assemble my documents in order if possible before being given a queue number.

This process finished around 9.15 a.m. I then waited to be called to submit my documents.

I was called around 9.40 a.m. to the other section of the embassy where I was given a queue number, then started queueing to see the embassy staff.

The embassy staff collected my documents, including my passport, DS-260, DS-160, medical exam results (excluding my x-ray), marriage cert, birth cert. All the other documents I prepared, including my NVC fee summaries, my birth cert copies, the I-864 (AOS) forms, the W-2 forms, x-ray, were all given back to me. It was a little sad, I guess because most of these documents I realized I've forgotten to prepare the night before. So I had to run out to a 24-hour printing shop to get it done. But oh well..

After meeting the embassy staff, I was told to return to the previous room where I will wait for my turn.

Around 10.40 a.m., I was called to my booth.

The embassy staff was really nice and chill. After greeting me, he asked the following questions:
1) Where did you meet your wife?
2) When was your first face-to-face (since we met online)?
3) At what point in your relationship were you romantic?
4) How long were you engaged?

And that was it! It all took less than 5 minutes and I was told that my application looks good and I should receive the visa between 2-3 business days.

Review Topic: K1 Visa

Our local Kuala Lumpur US Embassy deserves a commendation for being the most responsive part of our K1 Visa filing. Their consular section left only a 24 hour window before replying to our (numerous) queries regarding my interview in the city, and this was a great relief after the months-long silence when our case was with the USCIS office.

My interviewer had handled my session with a cool bearing, and my stint at the box felt more like an informal chat as opposed to an interrogation. He had enquired about our future plans in California, such as dates for our nuptials, and what I plan to do for work after I've arrived. My then-fiance (now-husband) had probably helped to convinced the interviewer of our case with a newly-typed letter sent all the way from the US.

My total time spent at the US Embassy was less than half-an-hour, and that had included security checks and my wandering around as I had looked for the appropriate room. I've heard of unpleasant experiences (re: visa interviews) from other applicants who had previously visited the embassy, but I'm glad to report that my recent visit had not mirrored these instances.

I scheduled my appointment on 6th March 2018 (the earliest date available that time). On 26th February 2018, I got emailed from the embassy saying that my appointment is canceled and they rescheduled it to 20th March 2018. Since my fiance already bought a flight ticket here to attend the interview with me, it is really unfortunate for us. But, after few emails back to back (from my fiance and I) we able to move the date to 8th March 2018.

On 8th March 2018, we arrived at the US Embassy (Kuala Lumpur) around 9.45am (our appointment is at 10am). Around 9:55am they allowed us to enter the embassy. At the first security check, we need to hand over all our electronic device. The person who checked on us is awesome. We did have conversation shoes since her husband is the designer of the shoes that I wore on that day.

When we enter the building, there is a guy gave us a checklist of everything needed. He said "you can take your time and arrange all documents needed according to the list. Whenever you are ready, please come to the other side and there will be someone assist you. If you find out that there is something missing, it is fine, don't panicked and just come over with all the thing you have". We sit in the waiting room and arrange all the documents needed in sequence (passport, passport photo, DS-160 confirmation page, document delivery confirmation, I-134, tax transcript, birth certificate (original and translated), police certificate, medical examination result).

After we arrange everything, we went to other room, and there is one lady gave us a number. We need to wait until they call our number. At the first counter, they will ask everything (according to the list). Just realized that I don't have a copy of my translated birth certificate. The lady in first counter is so nice and said "it is okay, I will make a photocopy for you. Wait here for a while". After I hand over my documents, she asked whether we have pictures for proof of relationship. I said we did screenshot a lot of photo during our video call. And I hand over a bundled of relationship proof to her (including FB messenger summary that show we have around 600,000 messages between us in 8 months, video call and voice call logs, screenshot during video call, screenshot a conversation between me and his sister in law, screenshot of his parents show me around their new house and few other screenshots). She said, she has everything needed now, and we can sit and wait for our number to be called again.

We sat and wait. Around 20 minutes after that, our number is called to counter 5. The consulate officer is smiling and greeting us nicely.
CO : Good morning, how are you today?
Me : Doing great, how are you?
CO : I'm fine. So, he's the petitoner?
Me: Yes.
CO: How did you meet?
Me: From an android game, called "township"
CO: Oh wow, that is amazing. I saw years of conversation between both of you (referring to evidence that we submitted together with our petition), when actually you guys start talking to each other?
Me: June 2016
CO: Awesome. When is the wedding date?
Me: 4th April 2018 (what we planned before, but the date change now)
CO: Great. (she typing a lot and didn't ask anything after that. I almost cried because I thought she will deny me. After long of typing, she tried to find something on the shelf next to her. I was super duper nervous since I remembered the CO on my tourist visa did that too before hand over the denial letter)
CO: Did you get the domestic abuse pamphlet?
Me: Yes, I did
CO: Awesome. Read on that. Everything looks good, your visa will be ready next week
Me: Seriously?
CO: Yes, Congratulation!

3 question! That's all.
