The visa interview was tough but manageable if you have all your documents and information in order. I could not hear the CO very clearly through the glass window and she got a little impatient with me so insisted that I needed a translator and asked me to sit and wait some more. I did as she instructed and prayed for grace and calmness.
I was asked about my previous travels to the US, Canada and UK, my husband's divorce and kids, why i was denied entry to the US in Nov 2010 ( I showed her the statement I made to Homeland Security when i opted for voluntary withdrawal of visa) and also wanted to know why we opted to get married in the US and not Kenya. Asked to see photos of me and hubby. Also asked to see my ring...
The advise I would give is stay calm, say the truth as you know your relationship is legit and don't cook up stories....some questions were asked more than once. Also, pray for grace and favor and for calmness.
I was also called back to verify finger prints.
Waiting for the visa with passport...it comes through DHL...not immediate visas in previous years.

Very pleasant people. Interview was quick and simple only a few questions, no request for evidence. As others have stated, I belive they have made a decision prior to your interview. Your interview is your chance to either verify their decision or nullify it.

Review Topic: K1 Visa

This has been an interesting journey.

My fiance was scheduled for an interview on 2/21/12 at 7.45. When he got there he waited for his number to be called. It was finally called and they told him they had not received his medical. He told them he did the medical on the 14th. the checked but could not find it.

He went outside and called the doctor office - luckily they had the confirmation and told him they would call teh consulate and provide them with it. When he went back in, they said that they had found it once they were given the confirmation number. They rescheduled him fo the 22nd at 8am.

He got there at 7am but apparently they had not given his name to the security guys. he waited till 8.30 and was finally let in. His nymber was finally called and he had the "mean" lady. She did not even ask for the affidavit of support.
She asked him;

how we met
how we communicated (she did not accept the info i had printed from the tmobile site. she said she wanted the actual bill)
she told him that even after that interview he would still face other - he said he knew and he was ready.

she told him he was approved. After that he just went numb and does not remember anything else. He just said she was a little harsh compared to the male consulars.

anyway happy the hard part is finally over. now we will handle everything together.

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

General Notes and Tips….. just sharing experiences....no particular order....

- Visa was received 8 days after interview via DHL. Nairobi Embassy does not
hand over spousal visa’s by hand, will be delivered via DHL.

- Questions asked...
What type of work does your husband do?
What is your husband’s phone number?
Why did your husband get a divorce from first marriage?
Do you have any wedding photos?
What is your husband’s birthday?
How many visits did your husband make to Kenya to visit you?
May I see your husband’s passport?
How do you and your husband communicate?
Where do you currently live?

- We stayed at the Sandton Palace hotel in Nairobi. Cost 3600 shillings per
day for Kenyan citizens.
- The sandton palace hotel is located a 5 minute walk from the DHL pick up
location for visa.
- The sandton palace hotel has 24 hour taxi service.
- The sandton palace hotel is a 15 minute taxi drive from the embassy. And
about 15 minutes from the Nairobi Airport (NBO)
- Full breakfast buffet included in cost for the sandton palace hotel, but
lunch and dinner cost 3 to 4 times the cost of local restaurants… Good
restaurants are a 1 minute walk from the hotel.
- Tuskys Grocery store is a 1 minute walk from the hotel.
- Hotel is also a 2 minute walk from a major town and business district.

Do not make return trip flight arrangements until visa/passport is in hand. It May take up to 8 days to receive visa/passport via DHL.

Additional Notes:

- While at the visa interview, ask for the instructions for how to register for
DHL services to receive visa/passport.

- Do not leave the interview with certificate of good conduct in your
possession… Interviewer mistakenly had given my wife her police certificate
and called her back the next day to return the document to the embassy via
DHL.

- While at the interview, beneficiary will be asked to provide a contact
number… make sure he/she provides a number in case they need to contact you
in case of an emergency.
- Have spouse get new passport with new surname immediately and well before
interview date.

Evidence we brought with us to interview:

Call logs, text logs, marriage certificate, shared bank account info, wedding/family photos, every document that was previously asked for.
Not all evidence was requested…

Saving Money on Phone Calls…

- Yu Mobile: http://www.yu.co.ke/

- Have spouse use a Yu sim card.. cost is 2.5ksh per minute from Kenya to
the USA.

- When calling from USA to Kenya, use rebtel…. 9.5 cents per minute
Free Text Messages….

- http://www.mysimplemobile.com/ SIM card that allows Free international text
from USA

We saved money by having me texting her for free and her calling me using her Yu line.

Traveling… Use expedia.com for international travel for best rates.
For traveling within Kenya and for the best rates… visit: jetlink.co.ke

Why people may fail during the interview….
- Being UN- prepared to answer all questions
- Attempting to immigrate to the U.S. for reasons other than a genuine marriage
- Having individuals write Affidavits on your behalf who were once connected
with marriage fraud.

It is often said that the Nairobi Embassy is one of the worst in the world for Visa Interviews; however here are the facts… Individuals who were not prepared were treated as such….. Individuals who are marriage fraud potentiates are treated as such…..

Our Nairobi Embassy Experience: We were very well prepared with all supporting documents and were treated with the utmost respect.

Review Topic: Waiver/Admin Review

the Nairobi embassy is the worst ever.
The USCIS approved our petition in the US, but denied finacee,
turned in pics, flights back and forth to kenya, paid all fees, letters from family memebers, pics of us with all our family, vacations pics in africa, good affidavit of support, letter from my govt job in the us, stable residency in the US for ten years where he and I will live and still got a no. They ask for finacee to come back over and over again, it was ridiculous.
They said based on the fact fianace had been here for school but did not finish and went back home and now wants to come back as a finacee looks funny to them We met here in the US and even have pics of the two of us here, but still no.
the case in adminstrative review.
