my fiancee interview was for 8:30 on a Thursday and she arrived at 8 the process went pretty much fast. from the time she entered the embassy she was out by 10:30. However, the co was really giving her a hard time about me not being there and for some strange reason the co wanted to see me.

I went on the following Monday I was asked 3 questions and the visa was granted. I think the co simply wanted to waste my time because I was only asked where I stay when I'm in Guatemala, how many times have I visted, and how long has my fiancee lived in the current city she's in.

also, anyone going through the process in this embassy after your packet leaves the nvc call them to find out your interview date because they set it really fast and they don't inform you. If I didn't call in about the medical info. we would have missed the interview because I receive the packet in the mail on nov. 30 and the interview was dec 8.

over all the Guatemalan embassy the process is very fast there's no packet 3 like many other embassy.

Review Topic: K1 Visa

Eduardo arrived at the Embassy at 6:30am. Needless to say, he was the first in line. They opened the doors at 8 and were let in and given a number. He said after about an hour, they called him up and took his papers to enter into the computer. After about 2 more hours (and a short nap he said), they called him back up to do his digital fingerprints. And about an hour after that, they called him up for his interview. He said the woman interviewing him was very, very friendly. She asked to see our financial forms and a few other things and she said everything looked in order. She asked him how we met and when he told her that I was a Peace Corps Volunteer, she told him to tell me "thank you" for my service, which was really nice. He showed her the pictures I have sent him of my family and he told her all about them, our wedding, and where I live. After about 15 minutes, she asked him how I was doing and he told her that I was nervous and she said "well, you can call your fiance and tell her that her Prince Charming will be there to see her very soon!" He was so relieved. She told him he could come back at 3 that afternoon to pick-up his visa. When he got back at 2, he said him and one other lady (who he talked to early and who was afraid she wasn't approved) were the last two waiting. He was afraid that he maybe wasn't approved and heard wrong but it just turned out that Fiance Visas were the last to be handed out. Huge relief for him. But they did tell them all that out of the 400 interviews/applicants they had the fiance visas for the November Interview date, only 27 were approved. I'm assuming that 400 is counting going all the way back and counting applications from I-129Fs, but I'm so glad Eduardo was one of the approvals!

Overall, all nervousness aside, Eduardo had a great experience!

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

My husband and I (US Citizen) arrived at 7:30am for his 8am appointment and ended up getting #18. We had our interview at 12:30pm. Beside the long wait, everything was clear and ran smoothly. The interview itself was less than 5 minutes. We were asked how we met, where and when we got married, if my husband had lived in the US before, if he had visited the U.S. and how long he had been on his longest trip. My husband was asked what I did and I was asked why I moved to Guatemala. The consular official looked over our paperwork, canceled my husband's tourist visa, and told us to come back at 3:30pm to pick up the visa.

As other people have mentioned, there is absolutely no privacy during the interview.

We filed through direct consular filing and the whole process took 3.5 months.

Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Our appointment was for 9:00 we got there a 7:30 because that's what the website said which worked out well cause we got an earlier number and got to wait inside and not out in the cold. They gave out the numbers and let everyone in around 8:00. Like everyone said you can't take cell phones, computers, cameras, USB drives or anything like that. There are people outside that will hold that stuff for you for about Q10.00. You can take in keys and food even though some of the people outside tell you different.

They start calling numbers around 8:30. Immigrant visas have a different number then NonImmigrant visas. Non-Immigrants get called in bunches quickly to get finger printed and put in another room. Immigrant visas are called one by one out of 3 windows. There they get your medical exam, appointment letter and ask some questions. They also asked for the policiacos and penales so even if you turned them in to the NVC. Then you sit down again until you're called to be fingerprinted then you have to wait to be called for the interview. There were two women doing the interviews both seemed very nice. A lot of people before us didn't have the right papers so make sure to bring everything if not they give you a yellow sheet with what you need and a new appointment time.
The interviewer just asked if my husband had been in the US before and since he had been in illegally for a few months. She was wanting some documentation of when he left but then said she would take his word since it was under oath. She then asked a little about why he came back to Guatemala and then why we got married there and if my family came for the wedding. They didn't want to see any travel records or pictures. Then she told us he was approved and to come back Monday at 3:30 to pick it up. All in all we left at 11:15 we would have gotten out earlier except the computers froze for a while.
To pick up the visa only one person can go in and they have to verify all the information before they can leave took about 20 minutes.

Good Day fellow VJ members! Byron's experience was very good. The interview questions were focused on my (USC) finances and income as well as my divorce. They asked him questions about the physical address of my home and also information about my two daughters. A little bit of history about how we met. They also asked questions about his past VISAs and how they had been used -- everything was very much in order so all was okay! Byron offered to show pictures and she said, "No Thank you. Please just be sure to be married within 90days. Congratulations!"
