Embassy has well organized process. Expect to be there all day unless you have children. They expedite those cases.

Review Topic: K1 Visa

We arrived at the U.S. Embassy at 7:20 AM for our 7:30 AM appointment time. We were instantly asked for passports and appointment letter and taken through security. We were allowed to store our cellphones, his watch, and other misc. items in a locker (you get a key and number on a chain to collect later). I kept my purse with me with the items that they did not take for the locker. After security, we sat in a waiting area with a number card that we were given waiting to be called.

Not long after being seated we were called to the first window for document collection. We got an African American woman who only spoke English. There wasn’t much to translate as she just requested the folder from Havana document check, medical exam, 2 passport photos, and to take his finger prints. After that we were asked to sit back down to wait for the interview. We finished this part by 8 AM.

Then the long wait where the nerves kicked in. We were soooo restless we didn’t get called to the window until 10:15 AM! The interviewer is trying to piece together a timeline and make sure everything makes sense. He asked my fiancé:
- Where does she live?
- What type of place does she live in?
- Does she have children?
- When was your divorce final?
- When did that relationship end?
- Why did you two break up?
- When did me and him start dating?
- How did we meet?
- How frequently have I visited?
- What does she like to do in her free time?
- What were our plans for wedding?

He did ask to see photos at the very end. Luckily we were equipped with a ton of photos together AND with family (his and mine). He was especially interested in seeing photos of us with my mom and daughter and my wedding gown. I also added color when he asked about our wedding plans...I highlighted that our venue was secured, the date, and where it would take place. I highly suggest attending the interview with your significant other because they get nervous and it's helpful to be there to correct or add context to their responses.

Towards the end of the interview the interviewer said “ok all sounds good just give me a few moments” which reassured us to know all was ok. He casually said “felicidades” and gave us our approval paper with pickup instructions and date five business days later (said it could be sooner if contacted). We were outside by 10:30 AM, elated! I’m currently still in shock pero estamos aprobados!!!!

Review Topic: Other Experience

Our fiance visa had finally arrived at the Guyana Consulate and we had submitted the required DS-160 and other form. We were anticipating for them to send us the scheduling info found in Package 4 but instead this is what we received today:

"Your case is now in queue to be scheduled for an appointment. You will be sent notification when an appointment date becomes available. Please note that the next appointment may be in 1 – 2 months."

So, it seems, currently, they have no open appointments at all and are not allowing folks to even schedule an appointment. javascript:emoticon('')

The process was pretty smooth. Interviewing officer was pleasant. Asked about 6-8 questions total. Overall it was a pleasant experienced.
