Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Our interview process:

Arrived at the USCIS office 30 min before our scheduled time, went through security, and got in line at the Triage Desk. Got a number like the DMV and went upstairs to the waiting area. FYI, based on my experience, sit in the waiting area on the right if you can, not the portion on the left by the restrooms. Most interviewers come from doors on the right side and a couple people on the left side didn’t hear their number being called.
Our number was not called until around 45 min after our scheduled time. Our interviewer asked us a few basic questions and confirmed our IDs. He then asked for a few basic documents: birth certificate from my wife, passport or birth certificate from me, and a certified copy of our marriage certificate (he also asked if he could keep it). At that time, I also volunteered the certificate and divorce documents from my previous marriage. He said that while he didn’t need them, it was a nice to directl... read complete review

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

My interview was yesterday at 7:15am. We live in Seattle so we left our apartment an hour early and pulled into the parking lot around 7. We went through security and then waited in line to be checked in. There were maybe 5 groups of people ahead of us. The woman checked my ID and sent us up to the second floor. We sat on the right side where a bunch of other couples were seated (I had read the left side is for naturalization) and were called in around 20 minutes later. The IO had us sit and then requested drivers licences and passports from us. He took my picture and the fingerprints for both of my index fingers. Then he had us stand and take the oath. He began by directing questions at my husband:

Who is this? What is her full name?
When is her birthday?
Have you met her parents? What are their names? Where do they live?

My husband was very nervous and said my wrong birthday before quickly correcting himself. The IO just joked "come on man ... read complete review

My interview was a breeze. Didn’t take 10 minutes. Mainly because my spouse and I have known each other for years before our marriage. Our i485 document was reviewed together with the officer to confirm the accuracy of everything we filled and the officer asked my spouse the standard questions of how did you meet and where. It was more of a conversation than an interview. Seattle officers are so nice

It was 4:30 PM and we were the very last couple to have an interview at the Seattle Field Office. The whole interview took about 45 minutes with approximately 15 questions were asked to both parties. The officer asked us if we were willing to wait for an answer or we could update the information after 5:00 PM on the same day. Of course, with a long journey to this moment, we were more than happy to wait for an answer. After 15 minutes of typing the computer, I saw an officer stamped "Granted ...." then he shook hands and congratulated us. What a relief moment!

Very easy experience. Got there 15 minutes early. We were both called in about 10 minutes later than our appointment time, so not too bad. We both took the "do you swear to tell the truth...penalty of perjury" oath, then proceeded to answer questions about our relationship: Where we met, where we live, who came to the wedding, etc. The officer also asked for some new documents of joint accounts. We gave him a couple statements of our energy bills and he was satisfied. The officer was a very nice, professional and courteous man in his early 40s. Very good experience. The interview took about 20 minutes and he approved us on the spot. Online status changed that day.
