Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

My AOS interview got scheduled for March 13th at 12:15pm. I got there at 11:30am, I went through the security and went to check in place. They said it is too early to check in and asked me to come back at 11:45am. I checked in at 11:45am and went upstair. I heard where the US flag is for Citizenship, so I went to the right side of waiting area and sat in front of the door(Right next to TV). People started coming out of the door and soon interviewers called numbers(My number was K9). I waited for over an hour, everyone got called in, but I was the only person who was left in the waiting area. The next appointment (1:15pm) people started coming and they got called in. I thought something went wrong with my number, so I went back to check in place to ask. The lady said someone just pulled out my application, so I should go back. And my interviewer finally called my number. She said she got called to do some other work and it took awhile to finish it. So she apologized for the long wait. We went into her room, took a picture and fingerprints, and asked me where my husband is. So I told her my husband is in Navy and is recently deployed. I called USCIS and they said I just need to bring the deployment letter. So I brought the deployment letter, but she said it is not the official one. I explained my husband asked for official one, but they just printed the letter to sign, and it is the original document. She asked me if I have any documents to submit, so I gave her all the documents like joint bank accounts, joint tax return for 2017, insurance, power of attorney, bills and pictures. She asked me how we met, how we decided to get married, if we met our both parents, who came to our wedding, where we had wedding, etc. I explained the whole story and she wrote it all down on my application. She asked me all "NO" questions. She told me that she has to talk to supervisor about the deployment letter and will update my status tonight or tomorrow. I asked if the deployment letter is not acceptable what would happen. She said she will personally call me to reschedule for another interview when my husband comes back from the deployment, but it should be okay. She was very friendly and nice. I left the Seattle office around 2pm. And I got text messages saying"My status got updated" at 3:30pm. And my status got updated to "New Card is being produced". My interview took longer than I expected, but I was glad it is over.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Our interview was on December 18th 2018 and scheduled for 9:30am. We arrived at 8:45. Security check, similar to airport. Security was incredibly rude and pushy, it was as if they hated being there, but we weren't really bothered by it, just eager to get inside. Got in the line-up which looks kinda like lining up at the bank. One person ahead of us. One person behind the counter. We were called up and then told to go back and wait in the line because we were too early. Everyone behind us had to do the same. We were then called back up about 15 minutes later, it was just after 9am at this point. Got a number. The guy behind the counter wasn't too friendly, but after checking our paperwork he softened and made a joke. We relaxed. Went upstairs. Like everyone else says, go to the seating area on the right, where the offices are. Otherwise you may not hear your number called. People are chatting amongst themselves so you have to listen and pay attention. Our number was called at about 9:45, we were one of the first to be called. Makes sense, we were one of the first in there.

We follow the agent to our interview room. Young girl, friendly. I had a text book of documents and copies but she did not ask for any of the items that I had expected her to. She really did not take anything from us, other than our newest tax return and our wedding photos. Since we moved a couple times since filing, she grilled us pretty hard about where we lived and the dates. The same questions asked several times over. At one point we were separated and questioned individually by her. The same questions about where we lived and when, were asked again, along with some other questions about our relationship.

The entire interview process took about an hour and a half. To make us even more concerned, we did not get a decision immediately. Instead I got a paper saying that they needed more time to review the case. The interviewer told us to wait 30-45 for a response. We left nervous, but still relieved to have got it over with. There were other couples I saw leaving with huge smiles, I knew they got approved.

As a follow up, we did eventually get approved. Day 44 at 6pm my status was updated online. So if you have a lengthy, stressful interview like we did, with no decision, do not fret.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Interview yesterday for TN to GC AoS. Arrived 30 min before scheduled time, was called in 15 min before scheduled time. Interview was approx. 30 min.

Our IO was a very friendly male, looked like a Starbucks Barista. He made us feel at ease.

He went through the i131 and i485, check marking each question. He asked where we met, how long did we date, whats marriage date, what our shared hobbies include, when did I decide to live in U.S, when was my last entry date. That's all, and he said he would recommend for a GC approval.

We brought a lot of things to show him, like pictures, bank statements, lease agreements, etc. He didn't ask for them, but I brought it up and he took the photos I offered to him and added to the file.

Still waiting on GC production notification.

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We arrived 40 minutes earlier, went through security check (they most likely will ask you to take your shoes off - pretty much like in an airport), then got our number (it was 52) and went upstairs where the interview rooms are. We heard numbers 34 and 35 called and were sure to get stuck for a couple hours. But we were called next, about 5 minutes before our scheduled time.

The officer was very nice and really made the interview to not feel as such an official thing. At first we swore to tell the truth, only truth and nothing but truth. Then he asked us for our passports and IDs since he saw them in our folder. Then he took a picture of me (for identification purposes he said) and fingerprints of both index fingers. Then he said we'd go through the form to confirm the data. He asked me pretty much all the question from I-485: my full name, date of birth, previous names, address and work history, names of my parents, number of marriages and children, my wife's full name and date of birth. During that he asked me if I was working since I arrived. I said no, and he asked, "How do you guys pay for stuff?". My wife said that she's working full-time, and he seemed to be pleased with the answer. Then he went through all the yes/no questions. When I answered he was crossing out every point all this time. After that he signed the form and asked me for another signature.

After this part he asked how we met. We told the whole story from our first message till our days. He asked when exactly we started dating and if the website we met on was a dating site. Then he was like "Okay, I see you brought some papers for me, let's see them". He was only interested in relationship proofs, he didn't asked for any additional financial papers or of what was already submitted - so no birth certificates/marriage certificates/ SSNs. He took the vet bills with both our names on it. It was the only type of bills we had - before that we told him we're living on the land owned by my wife's dad, so he was fine with us not giving any utility bills. Also he added to our case the print out of phone bill that shows that I'm added to the family plan, copies of wedding/Christmas card sent to both of us and a letter from the insurance company that shows me as dependent. Then he flipped through our photo album (approx. 60 photos since our first meeting till Christmas). He asked about people in a few of the pictures, then asked where our wedding ceremony took place. There was a cute moment when he saw a picture of us with our puppy and was like "Oh is it your dog?? Okay, now you're all the way in." Oh and also at some point he asked what field I want to work in.

That was it. He said, "Now you can relax, I'm gonna approve your case" and asked me if I'd like to get a stamp in my passport that will serve as a temporary Green Card. Of course I said yes (I feel more secure with this stamp haha). He said he'd bring it in about 15 minutes downstairs, so we waited there for him. The I-551 stamp says it's employment authorized and valid for 2 months. We left the building and were in the car at 11.00 (interview was scheduled for 10.30). Last night my status changed twice - first to "Interview was completed and my case must be reviewed" and then in a couple hours to "New card is being produced".

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

For those coming to the USCIS Seattle location for Adjustment of Status:

If you have made it this far, the AOS interview is pretty straight forward. Other VJ members have posted very good reviews regarding their experience, so I won't go into great detail.

Our USCIS interview officer was firm with her questions, yet, friendly and not intimidating at all. As others have stated, the questions asked were similar to the questions asked during the K1 Visa interview.

Although we brought all the paperwork and evidence requested on the interview notification checklist, the interview officer only asked for the certified copy of our marriage license and supporting evidence of our marriage. We gave her a certified copy of our marriage license, as well as a copy of the deed of the home we recently purchased, copies of our utilities bills, copies of our insurance cards, and copies of our joint bank account statements. Of course, all of the supporting evidence had both of our names on them.

It was all very cut and dry. Our experience was a positive one.

We were approved verbally, and was told my wife's Green Card would arrive in about 2 weeks. No approval paperwork was given, just the verbal approval.

Checking the USCIS website the following day, my wife's status stated:
"On January 9, 2019, we ordered your new card for Receipt Number XXXXXXXXX, and will mail it to the address you gave us. If you move, go to www.uscis.gov/addresschange to give us your new mailing address."

At the time this review was written, we are waiting for my wife's Green Card in the mail. Albeit, our interview was just yesterday. I will update this review once the Green Card is in-hand.

Some Tips For Arrival At The Seattle USCIS Office:

- The Seattle USCIS Office for your AOS interview, is the same building as your biometrics.
- Give yourself plenty of time prior to your interview. At our arrival, there were several people waiting for their appointments as well. The waiting area is rather spacious and you can bring your cell phone into the building with you.
- If you are driving, make sure to bring cash. Parking at the time of this writing was $7 with no in/out privileges.
- Entering the building is similar to airport security.
- Make sure to check-in downstairs at the triage area first before heading to the 2nd floor, where the interviews are conducted.
- When checking-in downstairs at the triage area, have your original AOS interview checklist letter with the date and time of your interview ready to give to the clerk. The clerk will ask for your government photo ID, and give you a ticket with a number. You will be directed to the 2nd floor where an interview officer will call the number on your ticket when it is your turn to interview.
- As I stated above, you can bring your cell phone with you into the building. Before you are called for your interview, make sure to turn it off. Be courteous.
