Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

We had to reschedule the AOS interview, and the USCIS phone center was no help at all (big surprise there). We put in the request through the phone - but they couldn't tell us anything about the timing of the notice or appointment, only that it would be considerably later than the first. Vika was leaving three weeks after that date to visit Ukraine, so we could have been out to November (it is now August). We made an infopass appointment just to try and get some input into the process, and the staff at the field office were extremely helpful. They rescheduled us BEFORE the original appointment, and even produced the new appointment letter while we waited.

At the interview, the officer called me back first. He asked open ended questions about how we met, and how our relationship developed for about five minutes. Then he brought Vika back and asked the same things to see if our stories matched. He then told us the green card was approved, and told Vika to immediately destroy the AP and EAD documents when the green card arrives, as it is illegal to have both (EAD being a non-immigrant document, and GC being based on immigrant status). Vika was told that under no circumstances was she allowed to vote (duh), and that she should take care not to let the DMV register her when she gets her license, as this is a deportable offence and no waiver or appeal is possible. Then he warned us about the deadline for lifting conditions, and let us go. Total of maybe 15 minutes.

Got to the office just a few minutes before our scheduled interview time, waited about 15 minutes, there was only one other couple waiting. Jose was our interviewer, didn't ask for much of anything...how long I stayed my first trip, when we got married, asked about our kids and for their birth certicates, asked for bank records. Didn't look at any pictures or any other info we brought. We were videotaped, which I didn't realize until he told us he was turning it off. He then let us know he was ordering the card production and advised when we should receive the 10 year greencard and when he can apply for citizenship if he wishes to. Very quick and painless!

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Louisville CIS office is very nice and helpful. I needed to adjust my interview date because my husband was gone on a small deployement. They talked to both my lawyer and I, then we all agreed to just have me going to the interview solo. I was very nervous, but they were so kind and they smile and told me it was OK (other than the front office clerk ... a little bitchy). The interview was for 10 minutes, asking about the Navy, how we met, how he purposed, how was the wedding.

We never submit any photo, so he asked if I had any on hand. My DH and I never take photo together but I had one photo in my waller from 3 years ago and I was 20 lighted and my DH still had hair then *laugh* ... the interviewer said "I need a photo of you and your husband" ... it took couple minutes for him to really believe that it was us :P Funny hah! Oh, I also showed him a bunch of photo on my cell phone....he said "oh well, that'll work".

Anyway, after we joke around, he told me I'm approved and I will get the green card in the mail within 2 weeks. I got it within like 4 days!

Review Topic: Adjustment of Status

Hi Everyone
Me and Becca had our AOS interview yesterday in Louisville KY.

We got there half an hour early for a 2.30 appointment and were told to sit in the waiting room until called. There was another couple sitting opposite us chatting away with their lawyer, I guess in the same situation as us - looking just as nervous. We had decided not to use our lawyer for the interview as he'd been fairly inept throughout the process. When we were finally called by the immigration officer, he seemed surprised the lawyer wasn't there. I guess because he had prepared the I864 for us. Oh well. Becca (petitioner) was called in first and I had to sit patiently for about 20 minutes. I got more and more nervous and by the time the guy came out to usher me into the office with Becca - I was a wreck. I grabbed Becca's hand and held tight - she later told me I was shaking like a leaf and couldnt stop licking my lips through lack of saliva! Anyway the questions were really easy. I had to take him through how we'd met, the trips we took together whilst living apart, the family we'd met, all about the wedding itsefl, who was there, what we did after (I'd forgotten we went out to dinner afterwards - I said we just went to the bar with all our friends - oops, jab in the ribs from the missus for that one). All the time the officer was ticking off sections of a little essay he'd written from Becca's answers.
After all this he asked for some documentation - proof of our cohabitation. I gave him utility bills, bank statements, the check book, joint lease for the house, emails from the landlord, cell phone bills and a joint tax return from last year.
I then gave him some photos of our trips together, which he just leafed through casually.
Then he asked me and Becca if we'd ever been terrorists or arrested.
The whole thing took maybe 40 minutes - 20 minutes each. He seemed satisfied and asked us to go back to the waiting area whilst he did some things on his computer.
Nerve wracking sitting there. Waiting.
Finally he comes back out with a big smile on his face and congratulates me for becoming a permanent resident. HOORAY! Gives me a bit of paper outlining when I have to apply to remove conditions in 2 years.
And that was it. It was a bit gruelling, but we were prepared and had nothing to hide. As long as you have some documentary proof of your relationship (the more the better) and have a bona fide relationship, theres nothing to sweat about. Still didn't stop me pacing around the house the night before of course, but thats just me.
