Visa approved today. Here's a rundown of our experience...
Appointment was scheduled for 7am on March 3, 2010. The appointment letter suggests to arrive at the USEM an hour earlier. We get there around 6:15am. We were greeted by several helpful guards and was directed in the K1 Visa line. No one was there and the person checked and confirmed that we were on the official list. We were then directed to another line for Gate #2. We waited about 5 minutes and entered the security area where they x-rayed our bags and walked through the metal detector.
After the security room, we followed the signs and found the Immigration Visa room. Here, another guard directed us to a short line where two girls were checking on the completeness of the DS156, DS157 and DF156k. There was a slight hiccup with the pictures. We had given two additional photos at the medical in St. Lukes and they said they were going to forward that to USEM. We should have glued her pict... read complete review

I made the trip to Manila to boost my fiancee's confidence by holding her hand thru the interview process. Plenty of girls pass the interview without their fiance being with them, but I think it adds credibility to the "love story". Anyway, if you have ever been to a government office, such as the Dept of Motor Vehicles, then the American Embassy in Manila will seem familiar to you. It was very bureacratic, starting with the line to get in the building. We arrived at about 6am for our 7am appt. It was still dark outside. We lined up and eventually filed thru security and into the building. Btw, here is a visajourney link that I found very helpful for other interview experiences. For reference I am going to use the map that was posted on the entry titled "Flow Of The Embassy Interview", http://ducecoop.com/interview/ . We sat in the seats and after about 10 minutes we were told to go to the CR window (lower left of the map). That is where we ... read complete review

Interview was long...20 minutes. Spent most of time asking me about my past relationship and why I never accepted his repeated petitions. After that, he did not ask me much about me and my husband. Realizing all of my papers were in order, he really started hunting. "Hmmm, I see you changed your birth certificate because your last name was orignially spelled incorrectly. Please go get us another NBI with your incorrect spelling on it, we'll call this delay "NBI AKA"." I left and immediately went and obtained the NBI AKA. I will deliver next Monday and hopefully they will process it soon.
