TL;DR - Interview took around 4 hours because my wife had to exit the building to upload missing documents to the consulate's visa online system, the embassy needed time to find documents she mailed to them, and she was last on the list to be interviewed that morning.
Long version: My wife's interview was at 7:30am. US Embassy has no parking for visa interviewees so we had to park a few block away across the street on Roxas Blvd East Service Road near the Bayview Park Hotel. Empty parking spots were roped off but we told the parking attendant we were headed to the US Embassy and he kindly opened up a spot for us. I walked my wife to the Embassy after parking (about 5 minutes walk) and they let her in 15 min early. Unlike other people's experience, her interview process took about 4 hours. Wifer caught Covid and we had to cancel our interview appointment. But, we did not cancel early enough and our USEM account got locked out, along with our payment. Unable to get payment re-activated in time for our next scheduled interview. So we had to pay another fee. Happened to lots of other applicants. Wish they could improve on the system. I guess no real need to get it fixed and the 2nd fee payment is greatly appreciated by the consulate.

The consulate interview was as expected. I was there to help my wife.
The worst part was the long line outside and the confusion as to where to go. The consulate employees who "direct traffic" are not helpful and often wrong. Once you get inside, it is easy. You are directed to the proper waiting area and you wait until your name is called.
In our case, the gentleman behind the window was nasty. He was in a hurry, impolite, and he did NOT want me any where near my wife. As a result, I had to be called back to the window by my wife five times to explain things to the person questioning. Among the things that he did NOT understand were: the fact that I was retired and had been for some time (I retired at 45); my assets were well in excess of the requirements but I was asked up to explain why my brokerage account was not a checking account; I was asked why the assets were not on a tax form (because we are not taxed on assets); I was also asked for my rent e... read complete review
