Review Topic: K1 Visa

Hello,

I went with my American fiance to the interview (we both are currently working and living together in Amsterdam). It was very easy, but they make it look so much scarier for those who still need to get it done!

I was pretty nervous, but knew there shouldnt be any issues, as we had all the necessary documents and been together long enough (4,5 years) not to freak about simple questions

Anyways, showed up at the embassy, had a chatty security guy take away our cell phones and any other digital devices (they made one couple leave the line because the battery of the mobile phone got stuck and wouldnt come out; however, they were allowed in the line once they resolved the issue).

My fiance was next me all the way, including our 1,5 hour wait in the line to submit our documents. We were able to hear and see what other people were supposed to provide and what they were talking about.

A very ... read complete review

Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiance had his interview on Oct 1st, and I was lucky enough to be able to arrange to be there for it as well.

We arrived about 15 minutes early, and got in the one line that seemed to be forming. About 5 minutes before the 1:30pm appt time, they announced that for immigrant visas there was a separate line. We were let in before the other line. Even though the K1 is technically a non-immigrant visa, we were supposed to be in the immigrant line. They did a security check (had to leave umbrella outside, didn't bring cell phones to avoid issues with that), then we were admitted and told (I swear I heard him right) to window number 7. It was closed, we waited for a while, there was another couple in line before us already being helped at window #5. After a while, a woman opened the shade and told us for fiance visas we were supposed to be at #5. Not that it mattered, as there had been a couple being helped at that window anyway. So we went to number 5, and were help... read complete review

Hard to believe it is already 2 weeks ago that we were there.
Things go really fast after you are approved.
Anyway, it was a good experience for us, we picked up my fiancé from the airport, took the train to Amsterdam Zuid, got on tramline 5 and after a little walk around, we were way too early, and got in line.
As it turned out, we were first for the immigration visa's, which saves a lot of waiting.
My fiancé was allowed in some time after us, since they had to check his suitcase and laptop. We had to place to leave those somewhere behind since we were by train.
In the meantime I got to hand over my papers to the lady behind the window.
There was a bit of confusion over one of my papers, which looked like a copy, but wasn't.
I got a compliment on the way the letter of consent from my ex for my son was set up. He is going with me on a K2.
What I did was make a letter myself and take that to a notary, they provided us with one no... read complete review

Im approved !! WOOHOOOO

It was a very nice appointment.
The lady that helped me was very friendly, and helpful.
The consul was a great, kind and happy person.

I had a very pleasurable experience.

Thank you Consulate if you read this !

The lady collected the forms, and made me feel like everything was already approved.
The consul asked me to swear i filled it all out truthfully, and while looking through the package to assure completion,
he asked me how we met, where she lives, if i like it there, what she does for a living.
It felt like he was really interested, and it seemed to be more as a way to kill the silence while he verified completion,
than that he was trying to set me up, to find reasons to deny it or something.

So everyone : dont believe the ghoststories. If your situation is a legit relationship, and you ha... read complete review

Review Topic: Direct Consular Filing

I went through the DCF process with my Dutch wife last fall and just wanted to say what a fast and smooth process it was. The embassy in Amsterdam is very helpful - I highly reccomend you call them with any questions you might have anytime during the process. I had been living in NL for almost five years. That entire time I was dealing with the IND, trying to get a residence permit, and was never succesful in that. I was worried this would cause a problem regarding DCF filing, but the people at the embassy assured me that as long as I had some kind of paper from the Dutch immigration dept saying that I was going through the process, then they'd accept my DCF paperwork, which they did. My wife and I have now been living happily and legally in the US for about five months now.
