Review Topic: K1 Visa

Hello people

I have one simple question.

After your interview in Amsterdam and a YES they send you the visa by mail PostNL.
Do you get an e-mail notification that the envelop is on his way to your address?

Thanks

Review Topic: K1 Visa

I walked to the consulate and joined the line, some guard yelled that the people coming for the immigrant visas (vs the non-immigrant visas) had to go and stand in front of the line.
So I ended up standing in front of the line and I went into the building first.
I didn't bring anything but my files so I went through security went pretty fast. (no phones or other electronic devices!) The immigrant visa people had to go to a different room then the one I went to last time when I came for my B-2. (I got denied for a B-2 before)
But it was very similar, a small room with 5 counters with people behind windows. I was called to window number 5 and there was a very nice Dutch speaking man, asking me for my birth certificate, police records and proof of support. I was very organized and he was very impressed and happy about that.
I had to sit down again, talked to some other girls going for the K-1 visa that were sitting there. (they applied for the visa in May, that means they only had to wait 3 months for their interview, I had to wait 10 months!!!). Then I was called to the second window, I had to put my hand in the air and swear I was speaking the truth. But the guy doing the interview was a very jolly and happy man. He asked me these questions:
What is your fiancés name?
How did you meet?
When did things become serious?
When did you get engaged?
Where does he live?
Did you meet his parents?
Did he meet your parents?
Are you parents coming to the wedding?
Did you ever live abroad?
Did you ever get in trouble with the police?
You got denied a B-2 visa, why was this?

Then he turned off his microphone and talked to a lady standing next to him for a bit, he turned it back on and said. "everything looks in order" "I am going to grand you the visa, it will be sent to you in 4 to 5 working days"

I would have given this experience a 5. But then they sent me my passport and files by courier and it ended up in normal mail and it got lost! I was really scared it was lost, but ended up getting it on friday (by normal mail!). VERY scary experience! And I've been told this actually happens a lot. They should really try to find a different courier as postNL!

Review Topic: K1 Visa

I just returned from the consulate.
Approved! Phew...

First of all, if the letter says 1:30, be there at 1:30. There is no point being there earlier and especially going up to ask for entry in the consulate before 1:30. Wait. Someone from the consulate will come and invite everyone in. Immigration visas first, non-immigrants after.

Second, please, for your own good, DO NOT BRING YOUR PHONE OR LAPTOP or any other electronic devices with you. YOU WILL BE DELAYED AND POSSIBLY DENIED ENTRY! Leave them at home, at the office, or with a friend outside.

After you get in through security you head to window 5 to get fingerprinted and hand over your documents (original and copies of birth certificate, police certificate from The Netherlands and any other country you have lived in before, and I134 and supporting documents - they prefer tax transcript or tax return copy).

After this you sit and wait. I was third in line, so not a lot of waiting, but considering everyone's file is considerably thick (everything you submitted to USCIS with the petition, to NVC and now to the consulate) and the CO needs to go through the entire thing, page by page, and asking you questions in the same time, this will take anywhere from 5-15 minutes per person.

The CO will let you know on the spot if everything's OK or not, if you are approved or not, or if you are missing documents and how to submit them. The first person in didn't have one document because their lawyer didn't say it was needed. I don't even want to know how many thousands of dollars they spent on a lawyer and came to the interview with a missing document... We relied on USCIS' website and VJ. So thank you VJ!!! We will never hire a lawyer...

My passport and original documents will be returned in 3-4 business days with a courier. Now just sit and wait

Good luck everyone!

Review Topic: K1 Visa

Review written by my fiancee (Wesley)

Last week, the 10th of September I had my medical appointment at 10.30. This all went very smooth. When I came in a very friendly woman sat down with me and went through the things I brought. I had to fill in some forms and gave her my vaccination report. She asked for 4 passport style photographs, but my invitation said I only needed 2 and that, that was all I had with me. She said they just changed that requirement. So from now on you will need 4 photos for your medical. This did not lead to any problems though.

Then I had to wait for the doctor. After a minute or 10 he got me and we went over the forms I filled in. After that he took blood, listened to my lungs, heart, checked my spleen and my liver. After that he measured my height, got an eye test and took my temperature. As last he gave me the vaccinations I needed and I went back to the lady at the front desk to pay for the medical in cash.
Then I needed to go to a clinic for the X-ray. This is quite the walk so I was glad I took my car. This was pretty quick. Walked in and almost immediately could walk through to the area where they take the X-ray. Paid in cash again for the X-ray and that was it.

A week later on the 17th of September I had my interview. I was very nervous. My fiancée and I were very confidant about all the preparations we did, but still I was nervous, there is just a lot at stake. My appointment was at 13.30. I arrived at 13.00. It was raining like crazy but people were already lining up outside. I joined them. I noticed that a lot of people had an appointment at 13.30, so this was gonna be a first come, first serve thing. I was like 20th in the line, but then a guard opened the door and asked people with an immigration visa to step forward, and all all a sudden I was 3rd in line. I had to show him my invitation in the pouring rain which made my neatly arranged folders with papers and forms a little wet, then he let me in. There you are at the second guard who asks you for your passport and if you have any metal objects, electronics etc etc with you. I did not. I gave him my wallet and my folders and walked through the metal detector. After the metal detector I got my passport, wallet and my folders back and had to walk through the very heavy, door at the end, took a right to the room with immigrant visa windows. I think these were numbered 5 through 8. Windows 1 to 4 are in the first room you enter right after you go through the heavy door. So we had to make a line at window 5, in order of appearance. I was third. After about 10 minutes someone appeared at the window and asked for the first person to step forward. When it was my turn the friendly man at the window asked me for:
• my passport
• birth certificate + copy
• VOG (Police records)
• I-134 + supporting evidence (being TAX returns of my fiancée)
I brought way more supporting evidence, but in my case they did not ask for that.
After that we had to go and wait in that area on a bench until our names would be called. This waiting took about 10 minutes again and then window 7 opened. She called the first applicant by name. His interview took quite a while, like over 20 minutes, which made me more nervous. My interview on the other hand went pretty fast, about 10/15 minutes.
First question she asked was who is Missy. Which is my fiancée. So I told her that. I thought if questions stay on this level, I’m gonna hit this one out of the park.
She then said that she saw that I was denied a tourist visa about half a year ago, and asked what that was about. I explained this to her and she said she appreciated my honesty. (Reason for tourist visa denial was not enough ties to home country)
When did you meet for the first time.
How did you meet?
Have you met her family?
What did you think of them? What did they think of you?
Has she met your family?
What did they think of her? What did she think of them?
Then she asked if I traveled more often to the US than she does to Holland.
What work does she do?
What kind of work do you do?
And is that the kind of work you would like to do in US as well?
Has she been married before?
How long?
Have you been married before?
Does she have kids?
Do you have kids?
Where are you guys gonna live?

Then she said that she had to make some notes and took my passport out of the folder, this startled me and I was afraid she was handing it back to me, but then she put it in a different folder and told me my application was approved!

All in all a very nice interview. the lady was very friendly and did not ask for any additional evidence of our relationship, which I did bring just in case. During the interview I saw her going through the papers and photo’s my fiancée sent to the immigration office in the US.

Review Topic: Other Experience

Medical examination in Amsterdam, The Netherlands at Dr. Schulte/Van Goyen Clinic.

I would like to leave a review of my experience at the doctors' office because it is something I would have wanted to read more about before having to go.

Practical things. The docs office is right down town, and going by car and parking in front of the docs office is possible. There's also a parking garage called Museum Quarter in the same street as the docs office. Ofcourse this is all very expensive. An alternative would be to park your car at the P+R of the Olympic Stadium and take tram 16 or 24 down town. Don't throw away your tram ticket because when you scan it when you go get your car back, parking will be only 1 euro per 24 hours. A tram ticket costs 2,90 euro to get into town. The tram stops right in front of the stadium and takes you to the Museaumplein area in about 15 min. I like this option very much, its easy and cheap. Theres also a couple of hotels in the street of the docs, if you wanna travel the day before, for instance, if you have an early appointment and need to travel from far.

Family Schulte is very nice. They are friendly and empathetic.
I came in 25 min early but that was no problem. I handed in all the paperwork they needed: passport, vaccination records, interview letter, and photographs. Pay attention, they need 4 identical ones instead of 2! It changed as per sept 1, 2015. As to my question if I still needed photographs for my interview, she called the embassy right away, and the answer she got was, yes, still need 2 more for the embassy/interview.
I had to fill in a simple form with about 8 questions about my health, passport and case number.
Then I could sit in the waiting room. After 5 min. I could come in, young dr. Schulte took my blood, just 1/3 of a tube. He explained it's purely for testing syfilis. I had to go back to the waiting room again and waited about 30 min to be called back in.
You do not have to strip completely naked, just have to take off your shirt/top. Girls can leave there bra on. The doc is very professional.
He meassured my length, weight and took my blood pressure. He listened to my lungs and heart and tapped on my abdomen for kidney and liver exam.
Then I could get dressed and he ask about 20 questions about current and former health and habbits. The question: have you ever used drugs: just say no, even if you were 16 and smoked a joint once or twice. This is actual advise of dr. Schulte himself!
Then you can pay your fee and you get a document to get you into the X-ray clinic, which is basically in the same street, 15 min walk. At the reception they tell you to go so and so on the first floor where you need to ring a bell in the waiting room to let them know you are there. This friendly woman came and asked for my passport and the document from dr. Schulte. I waited about 20 min to be called in. For the X-ray of your chest, everything up top needs to be undressed ofcourse, no bra or necklaces. Earrings, watch where no problem. Making the x-ray takes about 2 minutes and you're done. The Van Goyen clinic will send the x-ray to dr. Schultes office.
Unless theres is something wrong with your x-ray or blood test, you won't hear anything and they send your medical file straight to the embassy.
All in all it was an easy and good experience and everything together, including walking and waiting it took about 2,5 hours
