Medical examination in Amsterdam, The Netherlands at Dr. Schulte/Van Goyen Clinic.
I would like to leave a review of my experience at the doctors' office because it is something I would have wanted to read more about before having to go.
Practical things. The docs office is right down town, and going by car and parking in front of the docs office is possible. There's also a parking garage called Museum Quarter in the same street as the docs office. Ofcourse this is all very expensive. An alternative would be to park your car at the P+R of the Olympic Stadium and take tram 16 or 24 down town. Don't throw away your tram ticket because when you scan it when you go get your car back, parking will be only 1 euro per 24 hours. A tram ticket costs 2,90 euro to get into town. The tram stops right in front of the stadium and takes you to the Museaumplein area in about 15 min. I like this option very much, its easy and cheap. Theres also a couple of hotels in the street of the docs, if you wanna travel the day before, for instance, if you have an early appointment and need to travel from far.
Family Schulte is very nice. They are friendly and empathetic.
I came in 25 min early but that was no problem. I handed in all the paperwork they needed: passport, vaccination records, interview letter, and photographs. Pay attention, they need 4 identical ones instead of 2! It changed as per sept 1, 2015. As to my question if I still needed photographs for my interview, she called the embassy right away, and the answer she got was, yes, still need 2 more for the embassy/interview.
I had to fill in a simple form with about 8 questions about my health, passport and case number.
Then I could sit in the waiting room. After 5 min. I could come in, young dr. Schulte took my blood, just 1/3 of a tube. He explained it's purely for testing syfilis. I had to go back to the waiting room again and waited about 30 min to be called back in.
You do not have to strip completely naked, just have to take off your shirt/top. Girls can leave there bra on. The doc is very professional.
He meassured my length, weight and took my blood pressure. He listened to my lungs and heart and tapped on my abdomen for kidney and liver exam.
Then I could get dressed and he ask about 20 questions about current and former health and habbits. The question: have you ever used drugs: just say no, even if you were 16 and smoked a joint once or twice. This is actual advise of dr. Schulte himself!
Then you can pay your fee and you get a document to get you into the X-ray clinic, which is basically in the same street, 15 min walk. At the reception they tell you to go so and so on the first floor where you need to ring a bell in the waiting room to let them know you are there. This friendly woman came and asked for my passport and the document from dr. Schulte. I waited about 20 min to be called in. For the X-ray of your chest, everything up top needs to be undressed ofcourse, no bra or necklaces. Earrings, watch where no problem. Making the x-ray takes about 2 minutes and you're done. The Van Goyen clinic will send the x-ray to dr. Schultes office.
Unless theres is something wrong with your x-ray or blood test, you won't hear anything and they send your medical file straight to the embassy.
All in all it was an easy and good experience and everything together, including walking and waiting it took about 2,5 hours
