Summary: Honestly, a bit hectic and slow, but relatively efficient. We got there at 6:50 for a 7:30 and there was already a line. We waited and were let in with other people in our time slot. Husband’s English isn’t great, they had a consular officer who speaks Portuguese help.
Needed originals and photocopies of birth certificate, marriage certificate, and police record. They also needed relationship evidence. Every document was looked at thoroughly. Also, we had to tell them to look in the system for the medical, they thought that the medical wasn’t ready (both drs in SA are super busy).
Details: Got to the embassy around 6:50 for a 7:30. There was already a line, but we ended up being the 4th people in for the 7:30 slot (lots of people seemed to have an 8). Petitioner allowed in, but it sounds like that's a policy that changes a lot. Went with my husband through security (you leave your phones) and then waited in the waiting area with the wind... read complete review

Our interview was for a Mozambican filing a IR2 petition via the South African Consulate. We requested an expedite from NVC after the documents were all approved but before the interview was scheduled. The expedite was based on recent natural disasters and was approved. After being sent to JNB we did not receive any notification for a couple of weeks. Based on feedback from someone else, I called the consulate and on that day and at that moment I was given an interview date - So I suggest calling always - it could save you weeks by pushing your case along.
The interview was scheduled for May 30th and the medical was able to be scheduled on May 27th - again due to the expedite this was all possible to get done so quickly. Instead of the medical being done across two days it was done in one single day - blood work, urine test, paperwork filled out in the AM. A trip to the hillside clinic for chest xrays at noon and then back to the office for vaccinations, docto... read complete review

The Consular Services in Johannesburg were really easy to work with. They were super quick in replying to questions that we had. After our file left the NVC, we sent an email to the Consular asking for a provisional file to be opened. The next day they emailed us the Packet3. We submitted our Packet3 by November 10th, they booked our interview by November 22. Our interview was November 30th and we received the visa the next day on December 1st! Super fast.
