Interview Experience in Mumbai

Appointment Time: 7:30 A.M.

I arrived at the embassy at 7:00 A.M. We were asked to line up opposite the embassy building. At 7:30 A.M., the staff called us to form a line outside. They checked the sticker on the passport, obtained during the biometrics process, and allowed me to enter.

Inside, a security check was conducted before directing me to another building where I proceeded to counter 1. The lady at counter 1 asked who was calling me, and I informed her that it was my fiancé. She confirmed if it was for the K-1 visa. Subsequently, she provided me with a token and instructed me to wait for my token number to be called.
Around 9:15 A.M., I heard my token number being announced and went to the designated counter. The Indian officer at the counter asked me once again who was calling me, and I reiterated that it was my fiancé. He then requested the following documents from me:

The interview was short and sweet. My spouse was asked about family involvement in our marriage and wedding events as well as asked to show pictures of time spent together. My spouse had prepared an album of 20-30 pictures of our travels and time spent together, each annotated with a date and place.

The only thing we disliked was that even though the appointments are given for a specific time, anyone with an interview that day can get in line to enter the consulate regardless of what time their interview is. The lines to get in took up the bulk of time needed for the interview.

It was raining very heavily and since I was carrying umbrella so it did protect my files .
However rainy season is up so umbrellas were available for sale by some people there.

I got into the queue outside the consulate. The lady checked the appointment letter .
Inside the building they did security check asking about any pen drives ,electronics.

Overall positive.

We arrived early with everything prepared.

There was some confusion as we were NOT allowed to carry inside a bag and purse. My spouse had to carry all of the documents by hand and she was not allowed an umbrella even though it was raining and she was using her purse to carry documents which was also denied as per VFS "protocol."

Although a lot of applicants entering the embassy in the next time slot were allowed an umbrella and purse so maybe somebody in the morning processing was unaware of the rules.

The petitioner (US Citizen) was denied entry into the embassy. Another applicant was trying to enter with their spouse and child of maybe 3 years and were also told that petitioner can not enter despite being US citizen. Further a petitioner (US citizen) was denied entry with his father (very elderly).

So apparently from what I understood, the beneficiary may be accompanied by the petitioner if ... read complete review
