Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

Hi Everyone,
My husband's interview in Frankfurt went great. We stayed at the Friedeberger Warte Hotel (wonderful!) on Homburger Strasse, a street that runs parallel to the street where the embassy/consulate is located. It was a quick 5-10 minute walk to the Consulate, where we arrived at a little after 7am. There was only one line this morning (typically, we've read, there's one for immigrant visas and one for non-immigrant visa), and we were fairly close to the front. A man came outside shortly before 7:30 and gave instructions, but said nothing about immigrant visa applicants. So when we got to the counter outside the security building to get our appointment number, we did not have my husband's passport ready. We had his appointment letter, but the man shouted a few times, you need to show me your passport, even though it only took us about 15 seconds to pull it out of our big accordion file folder. (He was the only one who was remotely rude.) After getting our appointment nu... read complete review

Very easy and hassle-free experience. Everyone was very nice, not too long of a wait. The whole process took about 2 and a 1/2 hours altogether. Let them know we would be appreciative if the visa could come quickly, because we had been apart for a long time, they said they would send it out ASAP, it came in the mail 4 days later.

Review Topic: Other Experience

For anyone who needs to visit the American Consulate/Embassy in Frankfurt, right now (March 2007) the hotel Friedberger Warte (a four star hotel across from the Consulate) has a special offer. My husband and I will both be staying there the evening of April 1st (before his visa interview on the 2nd), and we paid only 44 Euros (including all taxes) for the two of us with breakfast using the website www.ebookers.de. We actually found the rate by using www.tripadvisor.com, searching on the hotel, and then doing a rate search. Some sites advertised a rate of over 100 Euros per night, so needless to say we were quite pleased with the rate found on ebookers. Plus, the hotel looks beautiful and has free overground parking.

Anyhow, I'm not sure anyone on VJ is headed there any time soon, but perhaps in the future, they might also have a reasonable rate and it might help someone.

Best wishes!

I finally had my Visa interview yesterday, February 2, 2007. I must say that I was pleasantly surprised and because of my positive experience, I would like to share it with others - perhaps it will ease your mind and give you some hope!

I stayed at the Friedberger Warte hotel ... it is right behind the consulate. I left there at about 6:20 and made it there at bout 6:30 am. When I got there, I was the only one already waiting out there. No one else started arriving until about 6:50am. I wasn't sure where exactly I needed to stand in line but the security officer told me I needed to go right to the window on the side of the consulate's entrance (to the left). So I went and stood there.

At about 7:25, a security officer gave a short briefing about what can be taken in the building and what not. He also explained the procedure of entering the building. Once he was finished, the little window openend where you get your ticket. Let me forewarn you, if you go to... read complete review

Granted, we have a rather unusual situation in the fact that we currently live together in China and were processed through the Guangzhou consulate, even though my fiancee is German.

In general, they processed our case quickly. Much faster than for a Chinese person. So, we have no complaints about waiting periods. There were no major mishaps by the consulate, and we ultimately got the visa.

The only complaints that we have revolve around the consulate being disorganized.
1.) The people from the consulate that we had contact with spoke very broken english (aside from the visa officer), and they didn't fully understand our responses. I know this is China, but we were dealing with employees of the US consulate, right? When we went for the interview, the guard manning the door couldn't read english and he had trouble figuring out what country my fiancee is from.

2.) About a week before our interview, we received a call from someone at t... read complete review
