Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa

I had my interview on Sept 15. My wife had filed the I-130 on June 24, and on Sept 13 I received the letter with the invitation to the interview.

I had an appointment for 8:30. I reached the consulate at 8:20. The line for non-immigrant visa was quite long, but in my line there were just two people in front of me. I got into the consulate at 8:26.

First up was counter 23, where I was greeted by a nice enough woman, who took my passport and asked me to go pay my visa fee at the next counter (she was German). At the cashier's window, the gentleman clearly only spoke English. I paid my visa fee and went back to window 23, where I had to hand in my receipt. I received a note telling me how to arrange my documents:

- Birth certificate (original and copy)
- Divorce or death decrees (original and copy, where applicable)
- Marriage certificate (original and copy)
- Police certificates (original, in order of residence, Germany la... read complete review

Very easy interview at the consulate in Frankfurt. Just a couple of "random" questions. Fiance was very well prepared, though. In and out of the embassy in less than 90 minutes.

Josh flew to Frankfurt from the states for the appointment, so we met at Europa Hotel (nice hotel, 45 Euros a night) which is right near the Haupbahnhof, 20min by metro from the consulate. Our appointment was at 9:30 and we arrived at the consulate at 9:00. We decided to wait outside for 15 minutes since the consulate webpage says not to show up earlier than 15 minutes prior to your appointment. We went to the security window at 9:15, showed him our visa receipt and were told that our number had already been called and to tell that to the recepionist inside.

We made it through security, told the recepionist inside the consulate that our number had already been called and were told to take a seat. We waited about 20 minutes when our number was called and we walked up to window 23. We handed in my passport and picture and showed the receipt for our visa appointment. We then took a seat and were called up to a different window about 15 minutes later. There the guy c... read complete review

The Hotel: I had a 7:30 am appointment - I stayed at the western hotel ca. 10min walk to entry of the consulate. I paid 58 EUR for one night. Very helpful, friendly staff and a great relaxing hotel (even had coffee to go in the morning :D ) It good place at which you can leave all your accessories that are not allowed in the consulate. Check out time was at 12:00.

Entrance US Consulate at 7:30: I checked in at the front (immigrant lines, first window): the officer needed my passport and my appointment letter.

Security: He handed me my number and send me over to Security. Security was very quick since I had nothing on me except of my paperwork and umbrella which I had to leave with the security to pick up later.
VISA Building: In the next building I checked in with another front desk clerk that I had to show my number that I received at POE and he told me what side to sit down and that I needed to wait until the number got called. In the building ... read complete review

My appointment was for 9.30, but I arrived there at 8.30, which was no problem. After checking my name on a list and giving me my number, I had to go through security, which was comparable to the procedure at an airport. Friendly officers. They kept my umbrella, and I got a number to get it back later.

Then I had to go over a little backyard to the main building. An officer told me where to seat and wait. There were 299 seats, and 23 counters. You have to stand in front of a window. After 10 minutes my number was called up and I had to go to window 23. The lady there asked for my passport, another passport-picture (I had sended 2 in with packet 3), and the voucher for payment. She also asked me if I already did my medical. She gave me a letter which said how to organize my papers.

After ca. 15 minutes, I was called to counter 21. There a friendly young man took my papers, and gave me a big brown envelope where I had to put the stamps (4,25 €) and my addr... read complete review
