Hi Group,

Just wanted to say thank you for your support throughout this difficult year with immigration. After 16 months of this process, today at our interview we were approved.

Our initial interview was scheduled for July 21st at 6:45 am, and we arrived at 5am. At 6:40 am(40 minutes late) the embassy finally opened where we first gave in all necessary paperwork, followed by an attempt for fingerprints only to learn that the system was down.

At 8am the embassy told us ALL INTERVIEWS for the day had been cancelled due to the AC not working and the systems being down. All they told us was they would reach out to us at a later date via email and phone to reschedule the interviews. I WAS PISSED!!! My flight was supposed to leave that night and I just thought MORE WAITING.

After talking with friends, my husband and I decided just to show up the next day at the embassy hoping that we would be able to get in AND WE DID!!!

Took a van from Santiago to Santo Domingo for $1000 pesos per person. Left around 3:10am, picked up a van full of people around Santiago area and was on our way around 4:35am or later. We arrived around 6:00am and our appointment was at 6:45, but this does not matter as nearly everyone waits until they start letting people in.

We quickly made our way past the buscones and got in line. There were about 4 to 5 different lines. About 30-45 minutes of waiting in line, some guy up front started organizing the lines based on appointment times - 6:45 get in this line, 7:00 get in another line, etc. Around 25-30 minutes later, some of the other lines started going in. I found out that these people wound up being the ones who would be waiting on the outside area that other posters had mentioned. About 7:40, they started letting people in. Stick close to your loved one, because everyone has been waiting awhile and can't wait to make it through into the building to get their proces... read complete review

We are from Santiago so we arranged to take the minibus that picks you up from ur house and takes you directly to the embassy. We left around 2am and arrived around 5am. Our Cita was for 6:45am. We were standing on line until 6ish. Hubby and I were separated once they started letting people in. They ask for the first page of the cita letter and staple a number to it. I got number 130. I didn't have to wait line on the security line since I didn't have a purse or anything else. Hubby had the documents. Once inside we waited for our number. This part goes in order. The embassy is nice. The air conditioner works very well. I was cold the whole time. I didn't bring a scarf or sweater;-( I had on a sleeveless blouse, jeans n flats. Hubby had on a long button down, jeans and sneakers. Once our number was called (widow 16) they asked for the updated police certificate, medical, cita letter and passport. Once she collect these items she told my husband to go to window 1 or 2 for fingerprinting... read complete review

The new location is nice, big.
I went days after it was formally open, the 23th jun/2014..at 6am it was already full of people standing on line waiting, but that day there was nothing that will sign where to start the line. Only the "info staff" knows and they arrive at 6am.

Eventually they started to address the crowd and telling them where to stand to according the type of visa. The order to enter the security area didn't make sense to me...one line can pass, then the other.

No camera, no USB, no media, no water bottles, NO NADA! So read again very well the list of forbidden things that can not be brought to the embassy. NO CELL PHONES!!! there are buscones there that offer to keep your things secure...yea right.

When we were finally at the front of the line, a staff girl checked my interview letter and gave me a number and asked us to walk through security..they have a metal detector and a x ray machine, like the airport. Then we... read complete review

Tips posted from other reviews that were really helpful:
1-I didn't take a purse and they sent me to the front of the line because I was purse free. Instead we took a duffle bag with our snacks, pictures, evidence, and my fiance took it in. The men's line goes way faster than the woman's line
2-Arrived at 600 am. Some people were there since 430 am. It doesn't make a difference.
3-Jewerly wasn't an issue, but kept it to a minimal (watch, earrings, necklace)
4-sat by the cafeteria (fans kept it cool)

They began letting us in at 630 am. Line moved quickly. We went to the first two windows by 745 am. We were out by 930am and shocked at how quickly it all went.

Consular officer swore us both in. He spoke okay spanish and was much better at English. He spoke to me most of the time. He first asked if we had any pictures? We took photo collages I had made for every visit (walmart). We had a total of 7 of them. I pulled ou... read complete review
