My fiancé and I arrived two days before the interview date and stayed at the nearby hotel. It's pricy but it's within walking distance of the consulate. Piece of advice: if you want slippers, bath robes, and additional coffee tabs for the coffee machine, ask for them at the reception. The staff are very nice and welcoming. If you get a double bed room at the top floor with a balcony, you can smoke there if you need. Another lil' advice would be: if you get the chance, visit Mannheim and Heidelberg. Both beautiful towns, especially Heidelberg, with its beautifully arranged shop windows, and a lot of places with traditional German cuisine. 11/10, would come back at Christmas time. :D I'm pretty sure it looks like something straight from a fairytale. :D
To help lower my stress level before the interview, we walked to the consulate entrance on our second day there to see where it is exactly and how long it will take us to get there on the day of the interview. It took us ab... read complete review

A mixture of helpfulness and incompetence from the time it touched the embassy. The email arrived stating that medical exam had to be sent to them along with all the other interview documentation by mail before they will schedule an appointment. They never state how the scheduling will happening after they receive the documents. We assumed maybe they will just email us? This email is also when you find out that you need 2 police certificates one from the Ministry of Justice in Zagreb (you can order by mail application and they were very quick and professional) the other from your local Municipal court. The email gives a telephone number to call but only a one hour time frame is listed where they will answer. It took several attempts over days to get someone to answer. At this time she informed us that no one is really at that phone and email is better. However her assistant had sent us an email but was sending it to the wrong person which is why we didn't receive, she was very sweet an... read complete review

Mask was required due to Covid, as was sanitizing your hands, there is had sanitizer everywhere. At the entrance they check your ID, then you go through security. Your phone and any electronics need to be shut off. They will keep them, give you a card with a number so you can pick them up when leaving. Then you head to the building where the interviews are conduced. They will call your name, take your prints, take any documentation needed. They will explain to you what needs to happen after the interview, when you enter the US etc. Then you will go to a different window, where you will pay the processing fee. You can pay with cash, kuna or dollars, credit card or debit card. After that you wait for the consular officer. They will call your name again when the consular officer is ready. Questions they asked me were the typical ones: where my fiance and I met, how long from the moment we met online to in person meeting, describe the meeting. What he does for a living, what I plan to do f... read complete review

My daughter and I had our interviews scheduled for 10:00. We arrived at the embassy at 9:50 and went through security. There was a nice Croatian speaking lady ready for us, she asked for our passports, all original documents and letter of consent from my daughters father, which took about 20 minutes. There is a small desk and chairs for kids to play with some puzzles, drawing boards, crayons etc. in the waiting area and it helped a lot to keep my daughter from being bored while waiting. few minutes later the CO called us for the interview which took about 10 minutes. Questions were: how and when did you meet your husband?, how many times have you seen each other in person?, who proposed and how? what was your wedding like and where?. questions for my daughter: do you know your mommy's new husband?, have you met him and how many times (she couldn't remember as it he visits about 3 times a year and she is only 6 years old). after that the lady said everything looked OK and we were approv... read complete review
