We had an overall good experience with the Guangzhou consulate. The only part that was disconcerting was the way people were 'herded' outside the consulate before the doors were opened.

The VO was pleasant and treated my wife and son well. We had all our paperwork in order and received a pink slip of approval with no problems.

The visa was issued and made available for pickup two days after the interview.

VO only asked few questions:-who is the petitioner? time and place of first time meeting in person?-petitioner's work?  beneficiary's work?-both parents/families met in person?-wanted to see e-mails and wedding photos.-asked for I-134 and tax returns w/ W2s.Whole interview lasted 2mins.

Our Interview Experience:

We arrived at 7:00 AM to a sea of umbrellas waiting in line to get into the building. I waited with my fiancee's son, Peter, up on the steps while my fiancee, Angel, waited in the queue. After about 20 minutes, they started letting people through the queue (the 1st three lines were for the visa office, which were let through first). One at a time, they checked the visa invitation letter and passports of the people, so the line came through slowly. Once they let Angel through, Peter and I joined her up to the 4th floor, where there was a short, fast-moving line through a checkpoint. This is where I left them, to my place in the coffee shop on the other side of the wall.

As Angel and Peter went up to the 5th floor, they first went through security (no cell phones are allowed in at all). Then they sat in the area where there were rows of chairs, waiting for her name to be called. After 15 minutes, they called her name, she ... read complete review

We got BLUE!!
Would have been nicer to get the Visa, but we will have it in a few weeks. Following is Yumei's letter to me following the interview.
Dear Rick,
I ran around these days lately. I thought I would hear good news today. At 5am I left the hotel where I stayed, I went to the gate of the consulate and waited in line. I took a suitcase full of materials and copies of emails, etc. I was the one who took most materials. When people saw that I took sufficient materials and photos and copies of emails, they all thought I could pass the interview for sure. We were checked one by one following procedure. Everything went well when I answered their questions and their inquiry on my materials, and I gave complete materials to them. I knew, you were very careful and you had prepared sufficient materials. I fully trust you. When the visa officer said you had not provided tax return report of 2007, I took out all your documents, and I pointed at document with number 20... read complete review

My wife was very well prepared. We spent many hours reading all the posts of those who got blue papers and we learned from them. We had "tons" of evidence. The officer asked her for photos of her and her daughter together as she was growing up, he asked for the 1040 Tax forms and he very throughly read a statement I had notorized about my former marriage, our meeting and why we got married as well as me explaining my trips abroad. I think he saw how well prepared we were and moved on to someone else. The intervview lasted about 8 minutes and she got pink.
