The entire process and experience at the Guangzhou Consulate was a pleasant one. There were no surprises or glitches. Everything went pretty much as outlined in the posts of members who had gone before. As with everyone else, the waiting was the worst part of the day. My lady and her daughter were, literally, the last people interviewed that day so the wait was in excess of 4 hours. there were no fingernails left when they came down from the 5th floor. My fiance told me that she was interviewed by a young woman who was very pleasant. She was asked 5 or 6 of the usual questions and then asked to ready one of our letters aloud and in English. This was to prove that we could communicate. After reading 3 or 4 lines the visa official said, "Thank you. You pass." Life was good!

The only issue is that my husband is German and does not speak Chinese. The signs, directions, and intercom announcements are in Chinese. I incorrectly assumed since he is immigrating to the USA; and interviewing with the US State Department at the US Consulate that English would be the primary language and Chinese the secondary language. It was helpful to have our Chinese friend there to translate Chinese into English at the USA Embassy. The interview, thankfully, was completed by an American in English. The interview was the least difficult part of this experience.

My lady's interview was on the 27th of September and the process up to the interview was not bad at all. She got some questions asked, did the interview in English and she got her pink. Now this is the part I am upset about.
Its been 2 weeks since she got her pink and still no visa. Chinese National Day took away some business days. So hopefully she will get it this week. Not sure what is going on.
Just a heads up, don't make any travel arrangements until you have the visa back in hand. The Guzinator is full of surprises.

The Consulate of Guangzhou. It is in Tianyu Garden. Basically the consulate is tucked between two apartment towers. It actually looks as if it could be connected to the two but I doubt they are.
At the Airport get in row 6B for the bus shuttle that goes to Zhong Xin Plaza and close to the consulate. This was within walking distance of hotel.
We stayed in the building on one side of the consulate. We contacted Mr. Yang (whom we had previously called to rent a room) and he actually met us as we got of the bus at Zhong Xin Plaza. Very nice fellow and accomodating room wasn't really clean, needs every kind of updating.
In the morning you will be seperated into rows outside the front entryway of the consulate just before the steps. Divided by visa types. Ask the guards for direction on which row you need to stand.
You will accompany your special someone up to the fourth floor I think it is. Escalators will take you there. You can stand... read complete review
