My wife had her visa approved today, so I am writing a summary before I forget.
We arrived in Guangzhou 2 days ahead. And I went in the Citizen service to get my EOR letter notarized. Paid 50 bucks. Turns out this is useful. (read below)
Nothing much to say about the doc-intake.
On the interview day, we got there 6:15am and there were already 50 people there. Later 2 lines become 5 lines and my wife was told to wait on the 2nd batch (those whose P4 letter didn't have a little green token attached after the Doc-intake, I don't know what difference does this make).
I got up to the 4th floor and I was turned down, so I sit at the coffee shop and waited (3 hours wait). It seems most people got their visa approved. When my wife came out she told me the VO asked the following questions (the VO speaks perfect chinese, and asked all questions in chinese):
1. give me your documents, my wife give him her passport, my passport, m... read complete review

Finally approved! :>
09/02: My lady went to Guangzhou in the afternoon and stayed in a Hotel very close to the consulate. That is also we learnt from many previous experience.
09/03: In the early morning, Shirley took a TAXI to the medical exam. It is very important to get there early because she want to get back the report on the same day since the second day is document intake. After the exam, it is almost 10am. She went back hotel and got the report in the late afternoon. One thing to remind here is that you do need to have 5 photos for the exam report.
09/04: This is the day for document intake. Shirley went there on 11:00am. She wait for a long time before she was called. We still do not know the reason why. The lady did not ask any question, only took the documents. There is ONE VERY IMPORTANT thing to remind is to glue your 2 photos on the 156/157 Form. There is glue there but there is no scissors to cut the photos. So my lady went out and got the sc... read complete review

Our first Doc intake day was Tuesday, and we got to Guangzhou Monday afternoon, and after checking into our Hotel, we had time to walk over and find the Consulate Building and walked inside as well. The Consulate itself was closed Monday (Labor Day Holiday). We got as far up using the escalators as the third floor before we were barred going further by it being roped off. One note, there is no signage in front of the building identifying that the US Consulate is there. The building is set back a bit from the street (which is needed for the Visa lines everyday). It is just north of the Westin Hotel.
On Tuesday, we got there early, and were the tenth in line. Ying and I start talking to those around us and got to know a few other couples. They start letting us in about 10 minutes before the appointment time (12:30). The woman at Ying's window is Chinese and very polite to Ying. No problems with Doc intake, except the woman did not take as much "stuff" other than the o... read complete review
