This review is a bit long-winded, but I want to demonstrate how important it is to be prepared, dot all your "i's" and cross all your "t's."
I am Canadian and my wife is USC/Canadian. She moved from Ontario to Orlando, Florida in April, 2017 in order to comply with the domicile rule. Back in November, 2016 when I had to select my 2017 vacation period, I calculated (guessed / hoped) I would be through the immigration process by June. So I chose four weeks starting May 24.
I loaded up a U-Haul trailer and drove my wife from NIagara Falls to Orlando in April, 2017. I spent a couple of days with her. looked at some houses and returned to Ontario, leaving her in an AirBnB house while she got ourselves established in Florida.
In late May, I resigned from my job (playing with fire, I know), loaded up a second U-Haul trailer, our dog, my two aquarium and the fish (three of the 20 or so didn't survive, sadly) and headed to the border. I declared my ... read complete review

Like most have said, this actually is a pretty easy step. The best advice I can give is be organized, it makes the whole process go faster. The staff are pretty direct in telling you where to go, where to sit and what to do. The paper they give you providing the list of required documents and their order definitely helps, and you'll have plenty of time to put them in order. I didn't take anything with me except my paperwork and that made the process easier.

Hello everyone ! I want to say thank you to everyone that wrote their reviews and gave all the information they could, it was very useful!
We had our interview on Thursday July 13th in Montreal. I live in Toronto and my husband lives in NY. We met in Toronto and drove over to Montreal the night before. Prior to leaving I checked the weather (because Canada is different everyday ) and it called for rain on Thursday. I wanted to be prepared in case we had to wait outside the embassy. I packed a umbrella and made sure my documents were in a plastic closed folder.
Our appointment was scheduled for 9 am. I want to arrive and be by the embassy by8-15 am. We stayed at the chrome hotel about 9 min walk away. Our hotel had parking and checkout was 12pm so we left the car there. We left the hotel around 730 am to get to the area around 745 am. However, due to the rain we took a cab which misunderstood and took us to embassy suites the hotel (smh). That put us anot... read complete review

I'll start off by saying that I had a pretty good experience at the Montreal Embassy/Consulate.
My interview was scheduled for July 19th at 9 am. My fiance came with me to Montreal and was the one who actually drove the long, grueling 8 hours to do so. He's amazing. Anyway, we booked a room at the Hotel Faubourg near china town Only a 12 min walk from the embassy). We took a walk down the street to find the embassy ahead of time to make sure we would get there on time. The price was fairly decent and the employees were very pleasant. The room also came with free breakfast which to me is exciting. I would suggest waking up at around 7 if you are going to have the breakfast because it gets pretty busy pretty fast. Overall, great hotel experience.
My fiance and I woke up at 6:30 am and headed downstairs to the lobby for breakfast. My nerves started to get the best of me and I couldn't really eat much. Too bad too because the interview was ... read complete review

My interview experience was pretty easy and I'd love to break it down for anyone else doing their spousal visa.
First off - arriving into Montreal Airport I went down to Arrivals (ground level), around Door 28 and bought a 3 day bus pass for $18 for the "747" airport bus at a kiosk. There are several and are well marked. Then go outside, turn right, and head down to the bus stop (also well marked). The bus departs about every 15 minutes to downtown, and there are baggage racks on board. Check out the Montreal transit website, as it will tell you what hotels coincide with what stop (there are only 11 stops). I used my pass to return to the airport as well, so for $18 I saved a costly cab fare. WELL worth it!
I booked a hotel downtown, within 10 blocks of the consulate (Best Western Hotel Europa). On a nice day it's a beautiful walk, or a quick taxi ride, I'm sure. There are a lot of hotels close by, so don't be overly concerned with being super clos... read complete review
