Review Topic: K1 Visa

My fiance and I had our K1 Visa interview on June 6, 2018 in Montreal.

I am the Canadian beneficiary, from Vancouver. My fiance, the American petitioner.

As many have previously stated, the interview to my pleasant and unexpected surprise, was the most, quick, painless and enjoyable experience of the entire process.

The consulate itself did not open until 8 a.m., which was the time of our appointment. My fiance were the first to arrive at 7. Although, in the end, appointment time matters little as once they had let everyone in through the door at 7:30 and let us through security/metal detectors we were all placed downstairs in a large room with chairs and an elevator at the end, to wait anyway. Security was kind and not scary at all but still professional. They have you leave everything behind (phone, keys etc.) and give you a ticket to retrieve your items at the front desk when you leave. I was allowed to carry in my binder of paperwork.... read complete review

My appointment was for 7:30 am. My fiance and I arrived at the Embassy by 7:15. We were the first people in line. The security guard opened the doors around 7:32 and asked what we were there for. At that time, there was only one other couple behind us, also there for their K-1 visa. Once inside, there were two more guards that are like the TSA: Put everything in the bins and have your belongings scanned. Once everything was looked over, they took our phones and gave us a ticket to collect them upon exit. We were then sent downstairs to wait. Several people were waiting when a security guard started to send people up individually. Note: The guard did NOT call people up in the order that they arrived. Sit closest to the stairs that you go down as that was where the guard started calling on people. You go back upstairs, back out to the foyer, and give your passport to an agent behind a podium. She printed out a sticker, placed it on the back of my passport, handed me a list that indicates... read complete review

The main surprise for me was that I was missing an additional affidavit: if your (immigrating relative) income or assets may be a factor at all, please make sure to bring an affidavit regarding your income and assets, and not just those of your sponsoring spouse.

Most of it was waiting. The actual interview was 2 easy questions and conversation (mostly about how we first met). Took 5 mins. I was there a total of about 90 mins.

Interview was at 8:30 am. My fiancé and I both attended the interview. The first window we handed up all needed documentation and the second window only my fiancé was allowed to stay and talk to the interviewer, he was only asked one question and it was how long he knew me. And then the interviewer told him that he visa will be processed and he will get it back within 1-2 weeks. He got his visa back within one week.
