Security, greeting staff, interviewers were all very friendly and helpful. The wait wasn't too bad (only around 2 hours) but some people seemed impatient. Not too many K1 visas going through there so it made my time go by faster.

The day has finally come when I can submit a review for the final step of the visa process!

My hubby landed in Montreal yesterday. He decided to get a 24 hour bus pass for $10. This was perfect because it allowed him to go all throughout the city for a set fee ( From airport to hotel, around town, and later on back to airport). He didn't need to use the bus to get to the US Embassy because it was close enough. I booked him a room at the Days Inn Montreal downtown for 70$(1 night) taxes included. He said it took him about six minutes of brisk walking to get to the embassy.

His interview was scheduled for 10:30 AM however he arrived around 7:45 AM. There was no line outside of the building. Then a security guard called him in and checked his passport and his courier papers. The security guard also told him that Thursdays are a special day for spousal visas not sure what that meant but anyways. He went down the stairs to a huge waiting room he didn't have t... read complete review

My fiance and I stayed at the Delta Montreal as it is across the street from Medisys where I had to pick up my medical results the morning of the interview (we also tend to love Delta hotels). It's about a 7-8 minute walk from the consulate but is a bit more on the expensive side if you want to budget your trip for the interview.

I left the hotel at 6:50AM on January 15th to get my results from Medisys which opens at 7:00AM. To avoid hassle with the consulate security I only brought my documents, one credit card, a 20 dollar bill, my health card and my passport.

I gave my name at Medisys reception and they handed me several envelopes of results and instructed me not to open them. I placed them in one of my document folders and headed towards the consulate. I imagine I arrived at the consulate at about 7:15 to find another VJ member waiting at the doors. For quite some time it was only us waiting but the line develops very quickly and though it was freezing... read complete review

Our trip to the consulate went quite well. The security was as tight as expected, and there was a lot of waiting and a couple slightly confusing bits in the process, but the actual interview was quick and straightforward. We got approved. It all took under two hours.

Details below! Note that I'm the petitioner, and accompanied my fiancée to the interview, so this is from my perspective.

Security and Getting Inside

We arrived 15-20 minutes before the appointment time. Although the appointment letter said not to bring guests, they had no problem letting me in since I'm the fiancé. Outside, there was an initial security check where they poked through our documents and my wallet, and asked if we had any items on the (sizable) prohibited list. Since they also sent the list in advance, we'd left everything but the essentials at the hotel, so there was no trouble there. It sounded like they can store small items (cell phones, keys) for you, but w... read complete review

This is my "paying it forward" as this site has helped me tremendously.
My fiancé came with me and he was was able to go into the room. My review on the processing is no different from the previous reviews. It was very straightforward. Questions were: How did you meet? When was the first time you met in person and who visited who first? That was it!

I cannot believe how i was losing sleep prior to the interview. I was stressed for nothing.

If i can share this advice, although this didn't apply to me, please bring $10 bill because there were a couple of people desperately asking for change because they had to redo their ID picture. Even if you may not need the $10, you probably can help someone who needs to break their ($20) bills. I feel so bad for them because no one in the room can break their $20 and they had to leave the building to get change.

We stayed at the Queen Elizabeth Fairmont which was about 7 minute walk.
