We arrived at the Consulate an hour ahead of our appointment. There was already a line up outside, with about 8- 10 people in front of us. A man was sent away because he has a back pack and he was told to go to the Eaton centre to check it there. Woman were allowed to bring purses and cell phones. I only brought my binder, no phone and my fiancee brought his American passport for ID. After going through security, we sent to sit and wait in the chairs. VJ members said to go the chairs close to the elevator... good advice, we were second on the elevator. Our laminated sheet said #3. I needed to put my info in order according to the laminated sheet, and yes, it is NOT in the same order as the letter from the consulate. I was a little stressed, moving my papers around, and I even missed them calling my number at first. The first lady was a little short, but not rude, just all business. I was glad that I had all of m... read complete review

Just as many have written before.. with the process, elevator, waiting etc. Take the time to read others' reviews and advice.
The Consulate is surprisingly small, considering that Vancouver doesn't process IR-1s. Vancouver seemed much bigger of a facility and inviting.
VJ, this site and reading posts has been a great help! thanks to everyone.
..it was a little tense in the 'screening' area outside the Consulate as a US citizen and his 'muscle' got physical with the security in the morning about 20mins before I arrived. So the airport type security was a little on edge. But no big deal.
All things said and done... it still seems crazy to fly across the country, 3 time zones, time off work, get delayed in airports due to snow storms, one night late to Montreal, extra costs on top of food, lodging etc. for a one hour wait and 2 x 3-5min interviews (max). But all the complaining aside. The interview was the easiest part of it all ... read complete review

Very friendly and quick. Asked only a few questions and took some of the copies of evidence we provided them. Was Expedited so it went through a slightly different process, but they were very kind and helpful as long as you had all the documentation that you needed.

Hi there, I just had my k1 visa interview yesterday in Montreal and we got approved! This has been such a long journey and I just want to share my experience and give some advice to any Canadians trying to marry a US citizen.
We booked a hotel in downtown Montreal so we would be close to the Embassy. My interview was at 10am, we took a cab to the embassy (about a 8 minute drive) and arrived around 8:30 am. There was a small line out the door. You wait until the immigration officer opens the door for you. When you enter the embassy lobby you are immediately asked for your passport and D-160, make sure you have it ready. The women gave us a laminated sheet with the order they want all of your documents. They tell you to wait in a line to enter the security section. I recommend just bringing a binder of all of your documents. Leave backpacks and large bags at home. They will not let you take them inside. No lighters or any gadgets or electronics of any kind. Reading advice... read complete review
