We arrived at the Consulate an hour ahead of our appointment. There was already a line up outside, with about 8- 10 people in front of us. A man was sent away because he has a back pack and he was told to go to the Eaton centre to check it there. Woman were allowed to bring purses and cell phones. I only brought my binder, no phone and my fiancee brought his American passport for ID. After going through security, we sent to sit and wait in the chairs. VJ members said to go the chairs close to the elevator... good advice, we were second on the elevator. Our laminated sheet said #3. I needed to put my info in order according to the laminated sheet, and yes, it is NOT in the same order as the letter from the consulate. I was a little stressed, moving my papers around, and I even missed them calling my number at first. The first lady was a little short, but not rude, just all business. I was glad that I had all of my copies ready to go. She did not need all of the financial paperwork that we had ready ,only the tax forms. We even had a letter from my fiancee employer, but we didn't need it. After everything was good to go, she gave me a pamphlet about domestic violence, and told me to wait for the next interview. We waited for about an hour, then called to window #7 - the rockstar guy! He was so nice, energetic, interested in our story on how we met, and said that everything looked great. He said he would really try to get everything put together for us. My fiancee first came with me to the window, but he was told that he couldn't stay there. He did comment on how nice it was that he was there with me. The questions he asked - how did we meet? Tell me about your relationship after you met? when is your wedding?
He told me that we needed to wait about 3 days for processing - checking criminal checks etc, then it would be sent out. He said about a week to a week and 1/2, close to New Years. Congratulations. My fiancee and I hugged after, had a tear, but all tears of happiness!! So relieved that this part is finished! It is tons of work to get ready for this day, and a lot of stress making sure everything was perfect, but it is all worth it!
2017 will be a great year!
