Review Topic: K1 Visa

My husband arrived for his interview at the embassy and after handing over his paperwork, they called him for his interview in 15 minutes or so for his interview. He was asked how long we knew each other, asked for his medical exam and his passport and why he was going to the States. The interview lasted 5-10 minutes and they didn't ask for any of our supporting documents (pictures, letters, 129f application, etc.). At the end of his interview, the interviewer just said "Congratulations, you can continue with your travel plans". The interviewers were all Latinos and spoke native Spanish. Those who received him at the embassy also spoke Spanish. It took under 2 weeks for them to place the visa in his passport and mail it to Cochabamba, which included a 2 day holiday for Carnaval. It was a positive experience for my husband.

My wife went to the Bolivian embassy as a Chilean national (and resident), for her interview for a B2 visa. The interviewer did not spend a lot of time on each applicant, asked 2-3 questions and then was denying the majority. He asked my wife about her previous green card she had, her previous stays in the US, and why she was visting. Did not review any of the documents she brought. Then she was approved.

Not a lot of explanation one way or another, and very short. Not a great experience, but it did work out for us.

Visa interview done prior to physical exam, therefore the visa approval was conditional upon the results of the exam. Interview was minimal in it's scope, but we're not newlyweds either. A total of 20 minutes between the two windows.
Kind interviewer. This has not been the norm in the past for my wife's experiences trying to obtain a B1/B2 visa.
Visa expiration date based on medical exam date, not visa issue date.

My fiance Elvia had her interview on June 24, now I am unsure how other Embassies are managing their interview process, but Bolivia was interviewing applicants BEFORE they had their physicals taken. Most of the questions asked to Elvia centered around my past relationships and if she had been made aware of them but very few of the questions that were asked were about us and our relationship except how we met, if we met in person and they asked her son if he had ever met me and what he thought of me. and, they did not ask for any sort of proof of our relationship, no photos, no tickets, no text messages or emails, no passport pictures, no affidavit of support, nothing, they did conditionally approve the visa pending the medical exam and they kept her and her sons passport. Her medical exam was July 1 and we are still waiting for the results. Elvia said the experience was very embarrassing to have to discuss my past relationships in front of everyone in the lobby (the interview took plac... read complete review
