A reasonably straight forward experience. I found most reviews of people's experiences to be valid and accurate. Reading through them in order to have an awareness of the consulate environment and processes was very helpful.

The process was just as described by everyone else pretty much. My SO waited at the elevators until they opened them up at 7:45am. He was done by 9am. We didn't hear what we were hoping to hear, but that's not the consulate's fault. Everyone was nice and the questions were normal, nothing intense. Just our issue that we knew could be a problem, and it was. We're working on that though. Sydney is nice. Oh! My SO flew in late and stayed at the Travelodge on St Phillips - the only food he could get was a McDonald's down by a big Apple store about a 5 min walk away (past the MLC, off King st). So get food at the airport if you fly in late (or like Mickey D's)!

The consulate runs sort of like DMV etc, once you have passed through security etc on the 10th floor you head up in the elevator to the consulate . You walk into the consulate up to a ticket machine push the visa button and get a numbered ticket. The interviews are done at windows standing in front of everyone else waiting their turn. Everyone can listen to the interviews of those that go before them . My interview was straight forward with simple questions . My fiance had accidentally sent me the wrong affidavit Form so I had to organise him to send the right one. The staff were friendly , the process was simple. Not what I expected but still quick and painless .

Had my consulate interview last week (5/Sep/17). Despite some of the poor reviews here, I found all staff, from the first person who checked my documents in the lobby to the security staff and finally the embassy interviewers all very professional, friendly and helpful. The questions were straightforward and consistent...3 people ahead of me, and myself were all asked the same basic questions:
1. How did you meet
2. How did your relationship develop
3. What do you intend to do for work in the US
4. Where do you intend to live
There were no "gotcha" questions and any required clarification was sought before moving onto the next question. There was one lady ahead of me with poor English and the staff member was patient and explained things clearly until the lady understood what documents she had to provide before being granted her visa.
I did have one issue where I was unable to obtain a police certificate and after explaining the situati... read complete review

From my fiance: "I had to go through security downstairs, it was pretty routine, then got told to sit and wait. Waited 5 minutes before riding elevator up and being directed to the place we were going. Had to grab a ticket and wait until number was called. I was called up, handed over my documents, which got sorted, excess got returned to me, then I sat down again and waited for interview. That took the longest, each desk spent about as much time sorting docs as interviewing people. Interview was pretty quick and painless,. Mostly questions about our relationship, her co-sponsor, and what I'd do in the US when I could work. Then I got told I'd receive my visa within 2 weeks and I left!"
