  1. When I flew over to visit I only said vacation and got no further questioning, not even a questioning look. Which is why I really wonder if they can see on their computer that you are applying for a K1 visa. I have heard good arguments supporting it and good arguments saying against, so who knows... If I get questioned next time I fly over I'll ask them

I do agree with you both though, that honesty is the best way to go. If you are doing everything by the book and are able to show strong ties to home country, I am absolutely sure there will be no problems whatsoever. Especially since you both Caroline and Sarah are not from high fraud countries (no offense to anyone who comes from these countries!!!). But yeah, I SOOO understand the nervousness! I was biting my nails throughout the whole flight over and planning ahead what to say if I got questioned. It was such a disappointment when I didn't :bonk:

Josh was just here visiting for 10 days and took another big suitcase full of my clothes, books, plates etc back over with him. Now I'm counting the days to fly over to be with him the whole summer: 3 weeks and 4 days!

I'm so happy for everyone who already got their NOA2 - CONGRATS EVERYONE!!!!!!

Looks like Vermont is now pushing them out like never before so hopefully we will be getting ours soon too!

I think it boils down to whether or not the guard takes the time to actually read over his screen. When I drive across the border they read and point at the screen then start asking me questions. My fiance was told by the border guards when he drove that his name is tied in with mine now. When I flew across through Denver the guard didn't even bother looking at the screen. So i think they do know its just a matter of how lazy the guard is.

  2. Hi guys :) I've asked this in another topic too, but I just thought I'd repeat the question here as well (cause yes, I am getting quite nervous):

I'm flying out to JFK this Friday to visit my fiance for 11 days. If asked purpose of visit I'm still not sure whether to say "vacation" or "to visit my fiance"...is it really OK to say vacation? I don't want them to think I was lying if they ask further and find out I am staying with my fiance...I am so nervous once again, it'll be my first visit since we filed in January.

I said fiance and he tried to trick me by asking when the wedding is. I just replied with "as soon as my K1 Visa gets in". As long as you have a return flight your fine. He also asked me if i had a return flight already booked and I said i did, which was true!

  3. Wuahaha, aww, she didn't let you breath, probably she's been around too many nervous men before. That made me laugh out loud! Haha, I know you're not new, I guess I should of gotten a comma in the middle of my sentence... sorry!! =)

The medical has me nervous for no real reason, just.. the thought of it. Haha. In the Guatemalan panel there is 1 woman and 3 men, but you do get to choose

The best of luck to you both with scheduling the interview for when you want it and getting approved!

    Diana.

We do get to choose our doctors here as well. I guess for the immigration medical they probably don't allow anyone to be picky just because of the amount of people that come in and out for immigration purposes. I do believe that a male doctor has to have a nurse in the room with him during a physical...here in Canada that is at least...or that's how it was at one point but i'm sure its still the same.

  4. Congrats on the NOA2!

The Medical went well. I arrived just after 6am and was 16th in line. They opened up the door at 6:30 and we began the tests at 7am. The bloodtest and xray is really quick and I was done that by 7:30am. The part that took a while was waiting to get your physical done. I ended up getting mine done at 10am. I'll be going back at 1:30 to receive the results of my bloodtest.

I will do my best to fax packet 3 in today but since I am requesting a later date, I will only be able to give a turnaround time versus what the current wait is.

    Steve

P.S. Apologize if that seems quick. My first post of this, with more detail, didn't seem to go through.

Whaaaat?!!! We actually have to get a physical! Do we at least get to pick a female or male doctor?

  5. WOOHOO! Just got a "Post Decision Activity" email from the USCIS this afternoon!! Two and a half months earlier than expected!

I am SO busy with work and packing up my house in the next few months, I don't know how I'm going to squeeze the next round of paperwork in there too, but I'm so excited about being able to get married sooner than we planned!

Called my fiance, called my mom -- wanted you all to be the third to know.

Hope it happens to more of you soon!

    R

I sure hope that means we are right behind you!! One can only pray!

  6. Hi guys :) since we are talking about crossing the borders while in the K1 process, I have a question too. I'll be visiting my hubby to be in May for 11 days, last time I was there was over the Christmas holidays and New Year's until January 9 for 3 1/2 weeks, before that I was there 6 weeks in September/October 2010 and before that two weeks in March 2010. Even on my third visit in December I got asked nothing, even though my last visit was less than 8 weeks prior, I didn't even get the "business or pleasure" question but I doubt I'll be as lucky again.

Binding ties that I will have are return ticket, certificate of enrollment at university, certificate of health insurance in Germany, and latest bank statement to show I can support myself and of course a cope of the NOA1. I am living with my mother so I don't have a lease agreement to show. Do you think that would be enough? I could also get a professor write a note for me that I am in the middle of writing my bachelor thesis and need to be back in order to finish my degree.

Also, when asked "business or pleausure" or "reason for visiting", would you go right out and say "visit my fiance"? Or just say vacation and if they ask further e.g. with who am I staying, say my fiance?

Getting nervous again, urgh. POE will be JFK, as the last two times..

I never right out and say my fiance. I always say "im visiting my boyfriend". The border DOES see we have pending Visa's, our American fiance's are also connected to us in the system when they even cross borders. We found that out when my fiance came to visit me a few weeks ago. The Canadian border mentioned my name to him and asked him about the K1. When i've come home i've never had to give them that info.

As for the lack of rental agreement, i wouldn't worry because i don't have one either but i have a letter from my employer along with business cards and pay stubs. I think the info you have that will be good enough. They have never asked to see my proof of ties any way. I fly to Denver next Friday so i can tell you how that goes. I wouldn't worry! Your prepared and you have all that you need.

  7. Hi all,

I went down to the US for a 10 day visit over spring break. I just got back and wanted to let you all know that my first post-filing border crossing went fine.

I brought a letter from my employer and a mortgage statement, as well as a copy of the NOA. The officer asked me where I would be staying (with my fiance). He asked if we would be getting married in the US, and I said we had filed for the visa. He confirmed that I wouldn't be getting married on this trip (definitely not) and that's it. Didn't need to show any of my documents.

I always take the train across the border, which in my experience is a particularly low-hassle way to cross.

On the way back into Canada the guard asked me if I make this trip often and if this is the usual length of my trip. Not quite sure what that line of questioning was about from the Canadian side, but I said yes to both and he didn't ask anything further.

It's all a bit of a mystery to me still -- what are they looking at on those screens, anyway? Do the dates of all my border crossings show up?

    R

Yup, they know every time we cross the border. When my fiance came to Canada a few weeks ago they let on to him that his name was linked to my name and they knew i had a K1 Visa pending. That was just the Canadian side.

  8. I travel to see my fiance all the time to the US and I don't have any issues. They ask me a few questions and I go on my way. If she has a return flight ticket, and a letter from an employer saying she is expected back to work. My cousin, who also married an American, had no troubles traveling back and forwards either while she waited for her K1 Visa.

  9. yeah and the more annoyinh thing is that if Ashley hadnt moved to TX and was still in MO, then we would have been sent to CSC?!

Although that may be a fact with her moving but you don't want to think like that  Its just going to eat you alive  Everything will get sorted out with VSC.

I've decided to quit checking up the status of my case because there is nothing i can do about it in between this 5 month mark. It seems like watching it just drives us crazy  .... well it drives me crazy. So i'm trying to let it go till May. That's just me though. I'm just saying lets keep our chins up and not let these statistics get the better of us. Its upsetting us more than it needs too and we will very soon be with our loved ones.

  10. Thank you so much for your reply!

So, what you are saying is that you think it goes like this

    Sponsor filing:

    #3 - Name of beneficiary

#10 - Name of beneficiary, filing with I-129f

    Cosponsor filing:

    #3 - Name of beneficiary

    #10 - None

    I guess this makes since.

    I really appreciate it!

    ~Ashley

    Yes, except I would add:

    Cosponsor filing:

    #3 - Name of beneficiary

    #10 - None (Cosponsor filing with I-129f)

That way it leaves no room for miscommunication between USCIS and you. The best thing for you to do is read over the instructions that is provided for you on the USCIS website for the I-134, at least 2 times.

  11. Correction..... if you read #4 it says "This affidavit is made by me for the purpose of assuring the U.S. Governement tha the person named in item 3 will not become a public charge in the united states" So you list the Beneficiaries name in #3 whether or not you are teh sponsor or cosponsor.

For #10 I would put "none (co-sponsor filing with I-129f)"

  12. The timeline on USCIS is a little more promising than the timeline on VJ's Igore's List. I do hope Vermont starts working faster though. It looks like, based on history, things could start speeding up soon!

Also, I have posted twice a question about the affidavit of support and how cosponsors answer question 3 and 10 on the I-134, but I have not gotten a reply yet. Does this mean that no one is quite sure yet?

thank you for any feedback you have that can help me with this question,

    Ashley

For #3 you put the petitioners name if your the co-sponsor. Question 10 you put the Beneficiary's name.

For #3 if you are the Sponsor then I believe you would put "N/A"

  13. No expedite since he's a US citizen and was just working over there, he's at the airport as I write this waiting for his flight home - which is so far on time!

Wished we could all expedite, K1 is an awfully long process... although this tweet the USCIS campaign has got my curiosity peaked and maybe it will make a difference at some point? I'm not a tweeter but maybe I should consider it just for this?

Good news... got my ticket to Virginia... leave March 26th with a return date of May 18th (then hopefully Seattle after that to wait for our NOA2)!!!! Just have to break it to work that I'm leaving a week early. I feel so fortunate to get to spend time with my honey at his home and get to meet the family in person and spend some time with them too!

I was just reading the Tweet the USCIS. I think it could possibly be dangerous unless its the American Citizen themselves doing it. We reeeeaaallly don't want to piss off USCIS if its the "foreigners" doing the tweeting.

  14. in all honesty i don't think any of us "foreigners" should be doing anything to come against USCIS. We are trying to get in to a country and Its not going to do us any good by posting/tweeting negative things about the process or about how retardedly slow they are. Yes, we are all under stress but unless its the American petitioner directly that is making a "voice" and tweeting, i don't think its healthy for us foreigners to be coming against the government and there process like this.

If the government wants to find stuff out about the people who are trying to get in to America they will most definitely do whatever background work they can. That means your Tweets, your facebook, and your Visa Journey posts may not be helping you but hurting you. Yes, i do agree that if we've hit the 5 month mark then we should call and try to get it going but we also need to remember that we need to be nice to USCIS because they are the ones who can deny us from being with our loved ones. So don't make them mad if you are not the petitioner!
