The new chick is beautiful, way better than Angelina. I'm sorry Angelina's nose looks just a tad funny and then when you match it to those big lips, she just looks strange to me. I think Angelina is beautiful (in her own way) but the new chick is way more. However, the new chick does not look 20. Her face looks older than that. She looks about 28 to me, 26 at the youngest.

Have one small child who has a very close relationship with his dad so it was never even really an option to live anywhere but here. But most likely we will be living in Turkey in less than a decade as well. As long as nothing strange happens over there, like a military coup or something. You never know, anything's possible in Turkey, and that's part of the reason I love it. If we had a way to live in London, that would probably be our ultimate decision. He lived there for 5 years but was on a student visa, never a resident or anything, so we don't really have a way of living there unless we become millionaires and can buy our citizenship. London is fabulous and Istanbul is an adventure. I love them both.

P.S. My husband for some strange reason would prefer to stay here, now that he's here and loves it.

She lives in Birmingham, AL so it's pretty far. I used to live in Birmingham when I was a kid. I still have very fond memories of the beautiful landscape where we lived.

If you don't live in the really nice part of Houston, then forget it. It can get pretty dangerous in certain areas. I live in Austin and I really like certain parts of Houston but I don't make enough money to live in the safe areas. I hear they have a really good art program for jr. high and high school kids though at most of the public schools. The art district is the place to be. You can check it out on the web. I believe it's the south area you want to stay away from.

Thanks everyone for the great tips. I actually got the job that I'm at now by asking tons of questions like: " How would you describe the corporate culture here" "Cultural diversity is important to me, how important is it here" (They like that one bc I'm a white chick asking about it, lol, but it's true, I do find it important) "How many employees are here" "Do you like working here" "How much potential is there to move up" "How often is there in-house promotions as opposed to bringing someone in a managerial or supervisor type position from the outside" This was probably my best interview and I have been stuck here for 2 years so I know I'm rusty again, lol.
I am trying to break into a new field, so I know I need to interview really well to make up for the lack of experience. I'm trying to get into editing or proofreading or anything to do with writing. The only thing I really have going for me at this point is I have a degree in French and English, but as far as experience goes, not much.
Anyone else make a drastic career change and found success? Or what problems did you run into?
SOL
P.S. Karo, you know I got some attitude, it just takes a break during interviews for some reason, lol.

AS, I think you're right about the interviewing skills. I can talk to anyone in any situation about anything but not in an interview. I can give awesome references about other people but I can't talk about myself. I feel like I'm bragging or being arrogant. Oh, and what's up with the "What is your weakness or biggest fault" question? How the hell are you supposed to answer that? Seriously, I would like to know.
Also, if anyone knows of some resources that could help my interviewing skills, I would appreciate it.

Hey, it certainly goes the other way too. I'm the USC from Texas and when I'm overseas I get the "Do you ride a horse to work?" "What do you think about George Bush?" "Oh, it must be really difficult living in Texas, with that cowboy lifestyle?" I'm just like what? I live in the most liberal, GW hating, hippy city in the world! I usually just start petting the person who asks me things like that on the head like a dog and say, "You're so sweet". lol.

For ex: I have a friend who had lived in Austin and then moved away for 2 years to NY with her boyfriend and then decided to move back. When she was in NY, she had a much better job than him and he even got laid off. Also, when they had moved to NY it took her longer to get a job than him but in the end she had the better job.
When they got back to Austin, he found a job in less than a week and it took her almost 7 months. I have noticed in my own pursuit to find a new and better job, that most of the time I don't even get an interview. Maybe, it's my resume but I don't think so. I know guys who have less education and less experience than me and they have no problem getting the jobs they apply for. I just know that my husband is going to get a good job right away and he's going to be looking at me like, "What has been your problem for the past 2 years?" He would never be mean about it but I know he's still going to think that, I mean how could you not.
What's going on here? Is that glass ceiling still there but just cleaned with Ultra-shine Windex so we have forgotten about it?
Please. enlighten me.

Call the cops on his ####### first next time he touches you. Protect yourself first and foremost. Better not let him catch you on the PC posting this stuff either.

Just be honest and tell them that you were adjusting to life here and had to go through the lengthy immigration process. I would say it quickly and then move on to your strengths. Keep talking about what you did in the past and how you have over 20 years experience. Control the conversation without letting them realize you are. And relax, it's at a high school, it's not like your life depends on this one job.
Good Luck!

Nope Nope Nope, I never make these completely unimportant VJ topics a serious debate. But I love annoyting people bc frankly, it makes me laugh.
Yep, Karo, doing tons of Laundry, so glad my kiddo sleeps in his own room now, lol. And now I wish I had an hour lunch break instead of just 30 minutes. *Hits forehead* "Why did I agree to that?" Well, good thing I live like 5 minutes away, lol.

You are such a pain Karo and you are exactly who I was talking to.
SOL
jk, I love you!
and I'm glad today is Valentine's Day or else I wouldn't have been able to tell you, lol.

I love how almost every innocent fun little VJ topic gets turned into a debate and people start getting so serious. Get over it. It's just a forum!

P.S. My husband is the most romantic person and we will be celebrating Valentines by staying at home and he's going to cook dinner. We'll light a fire in the fireplace and crack open a bottle of wine. (He is the best cook ever) No gifts bc we believe it's more about spending time together than spending money.
Happy Valentine's Day Everybody!

Alright people, this will be my last post for a week or so. My husband's flight was delayed this morning for like 3.5 hours or something like that. So, he'll miss his connecting flight at JFK. I just hope he can still make it here tonight and not tomorrow. I have about 8 hours to wait and see what happens. This anticipation is killing me! Well, signing off for now, talk to you y'all soon. Wish us luck and good luck to everyone else as well. I hope to see some progress when I log back on.
Peace and much love,

I know, it makes me look at all dogs and cats differently now.
Mercuryroad,
Yeah, he's only getting a nice welcome when he first gets here, I already told him the plan is that he cooks breakfast in the morning. I told him life in Texas is hard so he needs to get used to it asap. lol. Actually, he is a much better cook than me, so he will be doing the cooking almost every night. I love to clean, so it works out great. He cooks, I clean. That's the deal. And when he tries to re-neg, I'll beat him into submission. lol.

Mentally, I am ready for tomorrow. Now, my apartment that's another story. I started cleaning last night and still have much to do. The worst my place has ever gotten has to be a few days before he gets here, how convienent, lol. But yeah, I'm so excited! I have to buy a carpet cleaner tonight, kids, juice, and carpet don't mix. So, I have to shampoo the carpet before he gets here, I mean it's just the right thing to do.

in-law rant
in Off Topic
Posted
I love all of my in-laws but if I didn't, I would simply tell myself, "Just bc you have in-laws, doesn't mean you have to like them" Just bc they're in-laws doesn't mean you have to have contact with them either. I wouldn't be mean but I wouldn't let her borrow things either. Just try to keep your contact as limited as possible, ie: don't help with Uni work, don't let her borrow laundry detergent, don't let her be a part of your life, if you really dislike her that much. It's ok. There is no rule that says you have to like everybody.
