  1. What I mean is, why are they allowed to not do our petitions roughly in chronological order? Dealing with a large group later rather than sooner does nothing to lessen the total number of petitions.

Pretty frustrating that they can decide to bump us back, just because we don't live on the east coast or just because we applied in July, and there's nothing we can do about it.

Since it seems CSC has moved on to August and September filers, to some degree, it appears they can and are just jumping about... :(

    Were you touched on 4August?

  2. Each service center handles different states.

It depends on what state your US Citizen put down as their

    mailing address.

That's what I thought until my Tennessee (logically should have gone to VSC being far closer) application went to the slow boat. When I called USCIS to ask them why, they just said they try and keep the load balanced. I admit I rather laughed at that.

  3. Are you trying to make this personal? Because you shouldn't. The reasons things are tough for some countries is because of their politics. Because some of their citizens by hook or by crook will do anything to get out of those countries.

It isn't my fault or your fault that things are this way.

Hating on someone because they aren't going through what you are going through isn't very productive. Life evens itself over the long run for most of us.

I'm not trying to make it personal, sorry if it read that way. However, what you seem to be saying is that since certain countries are lucky and can just get on a plane and come over whenever they want, they should also be allowed to just bypass the entire system and just adjust status. Why should they be allowed to do that and us other people must go the long way?

  4. The fact that a British citizen could no longer land in the US on the visa waiver and adjust his/her status would not affect the ability of a Vietnamese citizen to acquire a tourist visa.

    That's just sour grapes.

You know, maybe it wouldn't and maybe it would. But it sure is damned easy to say it's just sour grapes when you and/or your special person comes from a favored country and can just hop on a plane and come over and you don't have the government prohibiting them from coming over for months or years. Perhaps you'd have an entirely different view point if you weren't waiting months for an interview and having to be scared to death that they won't be approved and wondering what to do then.

I'm sure you might also look at it differently if you had to go to an interview that they would almost certainly not be approved at just to visit their new family or friends.

  5. I used to be so against this ....... but after the joke we went thru trying to do everything legally.......if i had it to do over again i would have done it the way many have with out all the #######

    just my opinion

    sara

I can sympathize with the thought, but with your person being from India I doubt you'd have the option to do it any way but the hard way or do they give B1/B2 visas far more frequently to Indians than I thought?

  6. The VWP exists because the residents of the participating countries have a record of NOT coming to the US as a visitor and deciding to stay. And because those nations have a low record of visa fraud at the American consulates in those countries. And because those nations have other favored political status with the United States.

Taking away the ability of VWP/B2 entrants to adjust status would NOT open B2 avenues in other countries.

None the less. Adjusting from status from VWP still seems really shady. I have a hard time imagining there are that many VWP who "suddenly" decide to get married here who had no intention of doing so in the first place. Does it happen? Sure. Often, not a chance.

  7. As the topic title states, we just got our notification via looking at the USCIS website and checking our case status. We understand that we are to receive a packet in the coming weeks. What can we expect and how can we prepare for what is to come? Thank you all for your time.

    -Paul and Helen

    P.S.

I honestly didn't think in under a month from start to finish on the petition. Guess preparation is key in these matters huh? Thanks again everyone.

Being prepared had nothing to do with it. Getting sent to VSC instead of the ultra-slow CSC had everything to do with it. Congrats.

  8. I guess since it doesn't bother me if people want to come to this country and stay, I don't see any reason to make it harder to do so.

For exactly the reasons stated in the OP. B1/B2 visas are a mere dream for most of the world (basically, not Europe/Japan/Oz/SouthKorea) unless you're rich/married/older/male (depending on country) precisely because of the ability to pop over here on a B1/B2/VWP get married and squat. Since the level of proof that getting married wasn't the intention, as compared to what we who have to go the hard way must provide, seems to be laughably low. Like the OP and others have so far said, the non-intention lasts just long enough to get past customs.

While they're at it, the language that all people coming here are intending immigrants ought to be removed from other visa types that aren't for that purpose as well. I have a friend who was denied for a transit visa three bloody times because they couldn't prove they weren't just going to walk out of the airport as soon as they got here.

  9. Well an insider said that all touched on August 4th went into a large storage warehouse and we should hear something no later than January-February. Also, that we should start a service request after the 5th month mark!

Thanks for the info. It sounds like that ought to be read as "Congratulations, all people touched on 4August have been dropped down a deep hole labeled "When we get to it" :(

Sorry if I sound bitter. It is just supremely annoying, as you know I'm sure, to have August and even September people approved while we're apparently still sitting off in another building with no forward progress at all.

What I don't get is why that would mean extreme delays for us, but not for everyone in the months after.

Easy answer, if all our applications have been moved to another building "out of sight, out of mind". They don't notice us so they just forget about us and grab the next pile (August).

  10. And now I'm picturing that enormous warehouse of crates from Indiana Jones.....

How'd you find that out? :(

I'm wondering the same thing... that said.. it would certainly explain the abundance of July filers all touched on or about 4August with no activity of any kind after that.I also can't help but read "overflowing abundance of filers in july" as "prepare for extreme delays" :(
