  1. Thanks for the edit. I need to revamp the whole thing, as there was some CSS problems after a site upgrade, my numbering schemes went to sh|te.

I swear I need to put in a 'circling' entry point, as well - cause there's 4 points in this path, for circling, prior to actual DO-ing.

    grrr.

    Thanks for that update, though.

Sure thing. I actually thought about doing a general clean up on it. However, I didn't want to step on any toes.

  2. If I would have known it's better to optin after the AOS bill is invoiced for China EP folks, then I would have said something. But I honestly didn't know. Wonder if it's the same for all EP cases; to optin AFTER the first fee is invoiced...

It appears to be a China specific thing. Or GUZ anyway. In any event, I updated the wiki in question with a bold and italic note right at the top.

  3. Well, I didn't have smooth sailing with EP either. It took 16 days from opting in to receiving the acceptance. In between though, I sent the two packages (AOS and IV) by email, thinking that by the time NVC got to my packages, they would have already gotten to my optin and accepted it. But after about a week from my optin being accepted (which took 16 days), an operator suggested I re-send the documents because I had sent them before optin was accepted. So, I re-sent them, and it still took another week or so before they were being reviewed, and finally completing my case.

Just remember, it's rare to see a case on VJ where it goes fast and smoothly. Although it might be taking a bit longer now, it will go fast once your case has been converted properly and back on track. NVC usually reviews and completes cases within a week or two. You'll more than likely still beat my time of 37 days in NVC.

All true. I'm just frustrated since the delay is nearly 100% my fault and we'd likely, assuming no one else messed anything up, be at least done with the AOS track by now. Frankly, as long as we get our April interview I'll be happy in the end.

  4. YUP - I Mention in my EP wiki to OPT IN after the AOS fee bill arrives.

True, though in truth it was buried a bit. I did make a slight change to the wiki to make it more obvious that one should not attempt to OPTIN until that point.

The only thing keeping me from totally hating myself is that our IV package bits aren't ready yet. Though, it would be nice to at least proceed with the AOS track while we're finishing the IV bits. Unfortunately, we're just stuck and losing time. I do hope an April interview is still possible.

  5. Okay... so far it looks like we've "lost" more than a week of time waiting to convert to EP. All NVC will say is that nothing can be done until the conversion is complete.

That said, has anyone else taken this long to convert before? We got the email saying we were "enrolled" in EP over a week ago, but NVC insists that the (clearly exceptionally complicated and difficult) enrollment process is still not complete and we're still stuck until it is. What I'm wondering is if this delay is normal or if there is some magic code phrase I need to use with them?

  6. Saylin,

I've read that people are sending photos, affidavits, and some other proof of bona fides with the IV packet to NVC. Does this help, or should I just wait until we go to the interview?

You did send in a bunch of evidence with your I-130, yes? Like every single thing you could lay your hands on.

This is optional, but with some consulates, it's almost mandatory. Like GUZ in China.

Though some of us "sent them up the bomb" at I-130 time...

  7. Please REREAD http://www.visajourn...dpost&p=5155161

    Thanks !

Can we stop dancing around with the different versions of 'How to get an expedite at NVC' question, please?

Want One? Use a Telephone to INITIATE the request, follow the instructions given by THE HUMAN™ at NVC.

Is the human also patented? Is it copyrighted? Is it bigger than a bread box? Smaller than a house? Bigger than a mouse?

  8. Yup, or a presumed successful expedite. We never got word of whether we were approved or denied for the expedite; we just got the NOA2 5 days after requesting.

I imagine they pulled it to determine whether you were eligible for the expedite, and then decided that since you were on the line for 150 days they would just process it while they had it in their hands vice stuffing it back in the pile.

Thus, no notice of an approved expedite and you got processed "on time".

What kills me are the people in those other threads who ask such things as "should i call them or just keep waiting?"

    Hell yes you call them!

  9. So true. Our NOA1 was at the end of July, and I still watch those forums to see if the people I filed with have gotten their NOA2. We were ridiculously lucky.

Indeed. I'm absolutely convinced that the only reason mine was processed is that my Congressman's Immigration person spoke to someone he personally knew at CSC and got them to pull and process our file. Otherwise, I'm convinced that it would still be sitting in whatever box all the "deadly 4August touch" petitions went to.

I noticed yours was in that set too and only got processed after a successful expedite, no?

  10. FYI: there was a questions and answers session with the ambassador on USEM Paris Facebook page a couple weeks ago. Of course, I took the opportunity to ask if, after making tourist visa process easier and loosening rules on bans for overstay, President Obama had any plan to simplify the process of immigration visas. :content:

The ambassador answered me, which is nice, but his response was quite puzzling: he mentioned the fact that all immigrant visas for Western Europe are managed by USCIS office in Rome. What?? Anyway, he then insisted that USCIS was doing its best to achieve their goals and process the applications asap. I'll let regular July filers assess this statement.

So it looks like there is no plan to change IV process and make it less complex and long, at least not by this administration.

I think it's pretty sad to see that people who didn't follow the rules and should be subject to a bar can be graced, but the ones who do it the legal way will still have to endure this lengthy and challenging process.

Yeah, there was an article about them speeding up the process of getting a green card for people who had gotten here illegally or over stayed B2s and not making them go back to whence they came during the process. The entire article made it painfully clear that this was designed for and would only benefit those who did it illegally. Implied was the fact that it would actually punish those who did things the right way in two ways. First, we'd be waiting separated while they got to be together and second, it would likely cause backups at USCIS while those applications were processed at the head of the line pushing ours further down.

As to USCIS doing things faster, that is what we call "a lie". Lots of poor July filers are still waiting. I feel bad for them. One posted the other day that they've tipped over 210+ days with no action.

  11. wei - you not need that ;)

you need some fairy dust for yer wife - she needs extra strength and energy to carry her portion of the casefile around for those two days at GUZ IV.

What's it gonna be, 11 to 12 pounds, sans photos? about 3 pounds for the photos? oh - yer so mean ;) [j/k]

Hahaha... true enough. Makes me think I should get her a rolly case for it all...

How much simpler things would be if they allowed digital copies instead, no?
