I think you are highlighting an important development in journalism. We used to see Opinion and Analysis clearly labeled in the newspaper. It is getting difficult in all channels for folks to clearly identify what is news, what is analysis and debate and what is entertainment. Hannity has used the "I am just entertainment" disclaimer to let himself off the hook of providing balanced arguments.

New York Times opinion columnist Thomas Friedman declared Donald Trump's presidency a "moral 9/11" on Friday's broadcast of HBO's Real Time with Bill Maher.

After MTV News correspondent Ana Marie Cox expressed how people are "legitimately frightened" about social changes President Obama has made could get taken away because "it's all executive order." She also warned that the Supreme Court could overturn gay marriage.

"The crisis hotline for trans people saw an increase of like 400 times on Tuesday night," a frightened Cox said.

"There are people who feel, not just people of color, lots of vulnerable communities who are just scared," she said.

"There's a potential that there's a student out there, there's a post-doc, a person of color, Chinese, Asian, Indian, and they're saying now do I want to study in America? Do I want to work in America? And you'll see the impact of that in ten years. You won't see it now. The next Sergey Brin won't come here. The next great inventor won't come here

"This is a moral 9/11," Friedman declared. "Only 9/11 was done from us on the outside and we did this to ourselves."

Friedman's comment received applause.

Health care is part of the free market economy here. There are solutions, but I don't think you want to hear them and I don't want to be called a commie again.

She had insurance. Unfortunately we went through a restructure, and although no one got layed off (or was scheduled to), they told her her services would not be needed. I guess people with liver cancer don't make good employees.
She qualified for COBRA, but you know with no job and expenses mounting, that doesn't work long. The sad thing is this was a non profit religious hospital where I worked. They hired her back because we all filled out resignations and everyone was ready to leave, but by the time all that had went on her illness had progressed to a terminal phase.
One of the things that should change is health insurance being tied to employment. Those may be the first two things to go when you have a major illness. In that case, it doesn't matter how responsible you had been before that.

Something like that happened to a coworker of mine. She died in the meantime. She was relatively young and healthy until she was diagnosed with liver cancer. Not every one has time to play the waiting game. There has to be more than that.

What is most discouraging for me to hear educated folks not understand the tremendous benefit trade has brought the world. The losses of jobs is not from Free Trade but from automation and technology shifts. We are not going to trade in our iPhones for instamatics, clean energy for coal, raw steel for modern materials, cloud computing for manual ledgers.
Industry has shifted, for better and worse, and we could make a case for better use of resources to equip us for this shift, but it is in fact a benefit and consequence of free markets and innovation.The world is moving on, the responsibility is personal to make sure we and our children are equipping ourselves for the future, with support from government and enlightened industry.
