i applied for emergency medicaid here in las vegas nevada.. and last december 29 my husband and i go to the welfare to follow up for my application on emergency medicaid due to pregnancy.. the case worker ask if i have receive a card and told her i didn't receive anything.. and she then gave me my "medicaid billing number" and told me to just give it to the hospital where i planned to give birth...

im due this coming january 21 and will be having a c-section. i don't know if i should go to the hospital in this coming days or i should wait til i will be on labored. or i should go to my previous ob-gyn and tell him that i was approve on emergency medicaid and could help me give a c-section schedule at the hosital? hope someone could help me... thank you..

Have you read this site? Especially the Child Health Assurance Program.. There might be some information on there that might help.

Or you may call the number for your city and ask.

hi! i was approve for emergency medicaid.. but was not able to receive anything from them... we go to the welfare and they just gave me a medicaid billing number... we're you schedule for your delivery? o you waited until u labored? coz im due in january 21, and should be having a c-section. is it true that i should wait first to be in labored then go to the hospital or i could go to the hospital before my due date? thanks!

  3. Hi! Im from las vegas nevada. I dont have any income coz i dont have work. But my husband does, but not that much. Umm... I applied for emergency medicaid when i was 4 months then they told me that i was not qualified. Then again we went to the welfare then applied again last sept 22. And they told me to wait for 2 weeks but there was no mail and we went again to the welfare and was told to wait for 45 days. But until now we haven't receive any letter. And now im on my 7th month im planning again to go to the welfare and follow up. Coz they told me that im qualified and to just wait. So still waiting for their mail and hoping it would arrive soon.

  4. Hi. I applied because I dont have any income and my husband just got laid off, so they processed my application and then sent me a letter that I'm approved and gave me the insurance provider for my county. Then I called the insurance provider and they sent me a package of my benefits and everything else. It took only 2 weeks for mine. I guess it depends on who's processing.

You should also apply for WIC (Women Infant and Children). They will provide you free prenatal classes/ a lil healthy food items for pregnant women and your soon to be child. http://www.fns.usda.gov/wic/

    What state are you?

  5. Hi. Im not sure if you already had insurance but just wanna say that Im not a USC, but I was approved for texas emergency medicaid. I'll be due next week.

hI! right now i still don't have insurance... but i did go to the welfare.. and ask if im qualify for an emergency medicaid.. and the case worker said that i'am... but the process will take 45 days... still waiting for the letter... and just 2 weeks ago.. i went again to the welfare to follow up my application and they told me to just keep the receipt of what ever i paid (e.g. ultrasound.. laboratory...)

when did you know that you were approved to an emergency medicaid? did they send you a letter? coz i'm on january.. and im still waiting for their response. thanks!

  6. Husband may not have a job.

Husband may not have a job with benefits (happens more and more these days).

Husband may not have added wife to insurance at the correct time.

Husband's insurance may pay little for maternity care or not cover hospitals near OP.

yah you're right... husband has a job but salary is not good enough... and the company does not provide a benefits for the family.. the company provides insurance just for the employee and family is not included...

im planning to look for a clinic that do vbac.. i would like to try it coz it's much cheaper than c-section...

  7. In a worst case scenario, if the payment issue is not resolved prior to giving birth, you will not be turned away for medical care when you show up at the hospital. At the time of admittance or after delivery of the baby, you will be given forms to complete for the emergency medicaid. But I know you want peace of mind and resolve this before you are ready to give birth.

hi! really?! so at the time or after the delivery... thats the time when they will give me forms for the emergency medicaid? umm... atleast now i have the idea and peace of mind... that there is a possibility that i can be qualified for emergency medicaid.. thank you!

I also didn't have health insurance through my pregnancy here. I recommend talking to the doctor and hospital; ours gave a 33% discount for paying up front, for example. Also, c-sections are very expensive because they involve the OR and a longer hospital stay. I don't know your situation but if, for example, you are considering a c-section just because you have had one before, then you may try for a VBAC (vaginal birth after ceasarian) instead.

hi! thanks for the info... but i already talk to my doctor and i told him that i would like to try the vaginal birth after ceasarian ( which is much cheaper) ... but he told me that once i already had a c-section it will always be a c-section... and the eligibility specialist in the hospital told us that we can try the emergency medicaid but she didn't told us how to apply or where to apply...

  9. Another issue to add here... Your husband signed the affadavit of support for you, which means he is responsible for you should you become a public charge ie: medicaid... So, unfortunately one way of the other the costs for childbirth will ultimately be yours.

Most hospitals will allow a payment plan for medical care, and in the case of a true life emergency (impending childbirth), legally in most states you can not be denied care based upon your inability to pay. The worst case scenario is that you'd end up delivering at a "public" hospital, which is tax payer funded. You would still be billed for care after the fact but fees are on a sliding scale based upon income.

    Good luck with your pregnancy.

hi! thanks for the info... we already talk to a eligibility specialist in a hospital and offer us a cash plan... we got a little discount but has to pay $3750 upfront... (hospital stay and epidural and admission fee for a c-section) aside from the doctor's fee for the delivery... and she said that we can try for emergency medicaid when i will be delivering.. but she didn't told us how to apply for it or how's the procedure...

  10. Have your tried to see if there is some community organization that does free or sliding fee scale health care? I swear one of the community health facilities (not Department of Health)said they provide health care regardless of immigration status. Also I know alot of hospitals will allow you to apply for assistance with something major like childbirth and they will give you a much reduced bill or free. I am not sure if this is available to Non-citizens or not but it doesn't hurt to check. Additionally, almost every community is served by United Way and they have a 211 service where if you dial 211 from a land-based phone you can talk to a resource specialist that should be familiar with resources in your area for various things. A tip for you, though, would be if you are given places to call and they say they don't work with non-citizens, ask if they know of any additional resources. Sometimes one resource will know of a resource someone else doesn't. Good luck and if I hear of anything I will come find this post and answer it again with new info.

    P. S. I work in an office that is affiliated with the folks who process medicaid. I will try to ask one of them if there is anyway to gain assistance. I also believe medicaid is one of those means-tested benefits that the government doesn't want non-citizens on and if they are they will seek reimbursement from sponsor... I think.

thank you so much... i already make calls.. and they always says that non-citizen (in my case) is not applicable... or im not eligible... they always tell me to try emergency medicaid at the time of delivery...

  11. hi! im 4 months pregnant right now and don't have any medical insurance... im seeing a ob-gyne right now and paid almost 3/4 of $2200 for the pre-natal ( coz i will be having a c-section) in $2200 hospital confinement and epidural and ultrasound and laboratory not yet included... i know how expensive it is to give birth here..

we already applied for medicaid but sad to say i was DENY... coz im a non-citizen.

can anyone share their ideas on how will i be qualified for an emergency medicaid?

    thank you so much.....

  12. just to update the people who visited this thread:

I gave birth here in the US last November 25... and my application for emergency medicaid was appoved. It was effective from the time I checked in the hospital up to the day I got out. So that's total of 3 days. My baby's medicaid was approved too since he is a US citizen.

Hope this helps to those who are in the same situation. Thanks everyone for all your advices and responses.

hi! i just wanna know or ask what did you do that your emergency medicaid was approved? coz i'm also preganant right now and in my 4th month.. and like you i don't have any insurance. and i was thinking of going home in the pinas to gave birth... coz i know its so expensive to gave birth here especially i will be having a c-section again... right now i'm seeing a doctor for my pre-natal of ($2200) for c-section..(hospital stay and epidural not yet included). i hope you can share with me or hope you can give me some idea how you emergency medicaid has been approve... thank you so much...

  15. Your right of course and my head hurts from :bonk:. Now my wife said she doesn't have appendicitis because the pain has subsided but the Dr wants to do a CT scan which tells me he isn't convinced and neither am I. I told her to get the CT scan because she does not want a flare up at 30,000 ft. They should also be checking her White cell count and other symptoms. Why she has waited 4 days already to get it verify is beyond me. One should not mess with this kind of situation in my view as the down side is to sever. I also ask her to call the Embassy Monday and then we will know what to do as her departure date was planned to be Dec 1. If she can't make that then we will figure out what to do from that point.

Here's to all the Head Bangers...Hang in there our time will surely come. :hehe: Oh I need a break...

hi tomd.. sad to hear that there's still no good news from the embassy... and sorry to hear about you wife's situation.. umm.. tomd ill just ask one thing.. during your wife's medical? was she not inform that "maybe she has an appendicitis? ummm... or during the interview last nov. 3 was she inform that she has one? umm.. cause during the medical.. the doctor will ask you questions (during the physical exam...) and i think if the doctor finds out something about the medical result... for sure she won't have her vaccination the 2nd day.. when did they tell her that she has appendicitis? and if they ask for ct scan... tell your wife to have it done... maybe its apart of the procedure...

  16. To Any One who have an answer.

So my Mom and dad's interview was back on 11.1.10. They were approved however my mom was given a Blue Slip for the Information Window. SHe's to Return with her Expired Passport that has her Current B1/B2 Visa so they can cancel it.

I'd like to know at what point do we get back out Certified/Original Documents... NVC was sent

My Mom/Dad/Brother & Wife and my Original BC

THey have my Brother and my Parent's Original Marriage Certificate

Total of 7 valued documents.. should they have received it after the interview on 11.1.10? OR will they give them back when my mom returns with her passport and then proceeds to DHL to send off both passports..?

    hi ricardo4eva2,

i got my visa packet 2 days after my interview... here in the philippines i don't know if they did return my original or certified true copies... coz the only thing i can retrieve from my visa packet is my passport, which is outside the envelop but inside the plastic pouch. so i only did open the plastic pouch and got my passport... umm... because the other documents are inside the envelop and there's a warning not to open the envelop... so i have no idea what's inside it. the envelop should be open by an immigration officer at the point of entry when you arrive at USA airport.. i hope this can help you...

SUPER !!! Congrats and enjoy the caparinha what ever that is...

congrats!!!! at least you made it even w/o a med result yet... still visa approve so CONGRATS!!!!!!

  17. Yes Nica more than sweating. :bonk: So now we wait for it. Someone called me and has a job for me in Chicago. If they come up with the money then I will enjoy seeing her standing out in the snow. haha..

you see tomd... i told you... they are only asking for proof... and since the embassy has already the document they needed... it's gonna be all right... i got my visa 2 days after the interview... so i think expect the good news within this week.... good luck!!!!!!!!!!!

  18. Thanks nix & lai, Yes I am cheery, :crying: I am also just upset that we tripped up at the exit door. This was not necessary and it has complicated things and brought frustration unnecessarily to both of us. She didn't do it on purpose I know, but she did it just the same as a result of her not paying attention. Which has been a problem from day one. I already told her to call them on Monday to see if the document is there. If it is not at the embassy then she needs to call NSO which I ask her to do on Friday afternoon. If she doesn't get a good answer from them, she needs to go to Manila again and hand deliver it to the embassy. We have come too far to fall down now.

How much did the Courier charge for delivery of your Visa? I want to make sure she give her Mom enough money to pay them. I know she will be at work as she still has not put in for a leave of absence.

Congrats to those who are where I want to be !!! And those who are getting near share my story with you significant other and triple check your documentation for what you need and what you have. Even a bad example can provide your good lessons.

    tomD,

i paid 247.00 pesos for the delivery of my visa at air 21 booth inside the embassy.. i hope everything's gonna be alright tomd. just tell your wife to call the embassy asap so that she will know if they already have the document so that if they dont have it yet she can call back to NSO and ask some explanation... so that she can plan for the next set... good luck.. and stay cool my friend... i'll pray for you!
