  1. Your wife might want to checkout this weblink I found on the Embassy of the Philippines, Washington D.C. website: http://www.philippineembassy-usa.org/philippines-dc/consular-services-dc/faq-dc/#traveldocument

Unfortunately this applies for emergency travel to Ph which isn't the case and they do need documentation for proof.

D.C. is the closest for us and stil 450 miles away. D.C. weather keeps us from traveling there currently. The outreach program has Guam, Haiti and Cuba in the next month or so but that won't happen. lol.

  2. My wife was planning on visiting family in Ph for the first time since leaving Ph in 2011. She is in the U.S. with me, we are married and she received her AOS(green card) a year ago. Her Ph passport expires March 13. Dates of travel were late March into late April.

In order to renew her passport she must travel to D.C. or go to an outreach location for renewal. Guam is the next up outreach so traveling there isn't an option.

Does she need her Ph. passport to enter Ph?

I read this on the Ph Embassy D.C. website.

    VISA

Nationals of a number of countries with which the Philippines maintains diplomatic relations, including the United States, may avail themselves of visa-free entry into the Philippines, provided their stay will not exceed 30 days. Please contact the Philippine Embassy/Consulate General for information on which countries are extended this privilege.

US citizens who wish to stay more than 30 days in the Philippines and nationals of countries who are not extended the 30-day visa free privilege should apply for a visa before traveling to the Philippines.

Returning Balikbayans or former Filipinos may also enter the Philippines without a visa and stay for a period of one (1) year, provided that they have a passport valid for 6 months beyond the intended stay in the Philippines, a roundtrip ticket, and proof of former Philippine citizenship (e.g. old Philippine passport or NSO-authenticated birth certificate). Foreign spouses and their minor children may avail themselves of this privilege if traveling with the Balikbayan.

Can someone explain exactly what this is saying?

I'm assuming that she is a National not a U.S. citizen. Can she travel to Ph with her green card?

Any issue with U.S. re-entry if so?

    Thanks

  3. We are in the same boat. Applied June 5th. Office said ten days or less to confirm. We keep checking but not confirmed. Ss office sends a 2nd email and still no reply. We receive a letter from the SSA confirming our application and that it may take up to 4 weeks. Contact the local office multiple times. They told my wife that uscis requested a copy of my wifes documents(only work permit and birth cert. Were used at SS and uscis has those already. Called the SS local office on the 28th and they say now that we need to wait another 4 weeks?? Wth? 8 damn weeks??

  4. We received my wifes work authorization earlier this month and applied for her SS# on June 7th or 8th without issue. We were told that they were unable to verify my wifes information with USCIS via the computer and an email was sent to them. We wait until this info is confirmed which could be up to 20 days.

Every few days or so we call back but there hasn't been any reply from USCIS yet. Today same status and another email was sent to USCIS again.

    1. What info are they needing to confirm and from who? I ask cause the I-485 was transferred from Chicago Lockbox to California for processing. Does this affect the confirmation?

I am waiting to file our 2011 taxes to pay for a move to Sc. I need the SS# to file.

  5. I checked our AOS status the other day. Our status for the I765 work authorization and the I485 both show status as CARD/DOCUMENT PRODUCTION-We have mailed the document to the address on file. Previously the status was acceptance or initial review. Our file date was recieved on March 29,2012.

We did recieve the NOA setting the biometrics date for May 09,2012. Is the work authorization pending the biometrics or do you think the work authorization is on its way also?

  6. I dont know why I am even responding to your post but I just had to. A spouse can be claimed as a dependant if they are filing seperately and not a joint return. Irregardless, my use of the term "dependant" was only meant to refer that filing my taxes with her does gain several tax saving benifits. I wasnt looking for the definition of dependant. I am looking for any suggestions in regards to my original post that would help. Your post was useless and incorrect(depending on the filing status).

  7. ITIN guidelines say that you cannot get a ITIN if you are eligible for a SS#. She is not eligible for a SS# now since her 90 day fiance visa has expired. She is not in the process for the SS number as we are waiting for the EAD so we can file for the SS#.

We were married April 25, 2011 so I can deduct for her as a dependant. My refund is substantial and would be nice to have so thats why I am pondering over the ITIN. Unfortunately, I just found out about it or I would have filed for it a couple of months ago.

  8. We filed for my wifes AOS a week or so ago. She didnt get an SS# when she entered the US on a K-1 visa. ( my fault). It is tax time now but I need a ITIN or SS# so I can file. I dont want to get the tax id and then her EAD comes in creating confusion.

Should I just wait for the EAD?

ITIN takes 8-10 weeks to get this time of year. I can drive to Topeka where there is a Tax assistance center. They can process it there but I don't know if she would get the ITIN the same day or not.

    Any thoughts?

  9. My wife came here to the US in 2011 on a fiance visa and we were married within 90 days to comply.I have not been able to file the AOS as of yet due to finances but I should be able to in the next 90 days.

I am doing my taxes for 2011 With Turbotax. I put in my wifes information as my spouse but I have no SS# which of course it says is required.

She is my spouse so I can claim on my taxes but what can or do I need to do about the SS#??

  10. Delta did refund 100% of the purchase price plus the change ticket fee but it required alot of effort on my part. Delta said that I checked the box agreeing to this but I dont remember it.

She just landed in Honolulu leaving in another hour or so for Houston. I'll see her in 13 more hours.

  11. UPDATE

The saga continues. The Continental flight I booked has a plane change in Tokyo after her POE in Guam. Thats right, only one U.S. entry on the K1. Strangely, this isn't listed as a destination on the Itenerary so I thought that she would not have to leave the International terminal there. When she asked in Manila they were not sure so she called me to change the ticket via Honolulu.

Now this is where my experience with Continental reservations differs than what I experienced with Delta who were somewhat rude and flat out stated they couldn't waive any fees.

A Continental rep. named Mrs. Soto took my call. I explained that I had a major issue with a ticket and she pulled up the confirmation. As I told her the situation, you could hear her concern for me and quickly said " lets get her on the Honolulu flight". Bingo!!! No mention of fees or that I made the error but let's just do it!!

Ticketing was a bit trickier since she leaves on the 29th, arrives in Guam on the 30th, leaves Guam on the 30th but arrives in Honolulu on the 29th, leaves on the 29th then arrives in Houston on the 30th jumping across the time zones.

In about five minutes she said she has it and that I need to pay the difference in tax ($10.48) and she would waive the fee!! Yippee!!

On top of all this, she never mentioned the fare difference which I know was over $200.00 more when I purchased the other flight and Sheena will arrive 11 hours earlier to boot!!!! Yeh!!!!

So tonight at work I will write Continental a Email giving them the thumbs up and one to Delta telling them to suck it!!!!

  12. I hope no one ever goes thru what we did today. My post above could have been alot longer and detailed. Don't think for a minute that the Delta supervisor just refunded me 100% of my ticket cost without a fight. Of course she said that she cannot waive the $100 refund fee or waive the ticket rescheduling fee blah, blah, blah. I heard that for 10 minutes before she did agree. I think that when I asked her if the last time that she purchased an item online if she had to go to the company headquarters with ID and credit card. She was quiet after that one.Lol.

Read the fine print very clearly and know what you are agreeing too. I could have easily been out $900.00 for a ticket and Sheena stuck in the Philippines while I scrape together money for another ticket. I spent about 30 hours over several days to get that flight schedule at a decent price. Knowing that I had to go searching again was a dreadful task that I wasn't looking forward to.

Ok..... 41 more hours to go!!!

  13. I purchased the ticket online from Delta.com. I called and the first agent said that it didn't make sense and put me on hold. She came back and said that I could not fax it. I must show the credit card with my ID in person at a Delta counter. No copies nothing. 150 miles one way to Kansas City. WTH??

I then talked to a supervisor in Seattle. Nothing she can do. Apparently this was a stipulation of purchasing online but I don't remember seeing it. No where on my itenerary did it state this.

She said she could refund my ticket minus the $100.00 fee. I told them how helpful they are to me with a fee to make money from.

She puts me on hold comes back and stated she refunded me 100% of the purchase price plus the change ticket fee. Takes up to seven days to process.WTH? I dont want to delay her arrival.

Long story short, a temporaru refund showed on my account and I got another ticket on Continental for $30 less leaving at 2315 hrs on the 29th. It is 35 hours total as compared to 21 hours but she doesn't care and she will arrive the 30th at 9PM.

Maybe it was the short notice on the purchase(27th) but a copy of my ID, credit card will not work. This only confirms that someone else posseses your Credit card and ID not that it is you.

I called Continental. No card needed just her passport. They verify with bank of America with Verisign.

It has been very frustrating the last 12 hours.
