I was only required to provide my birth certificate and passport with my endorsed visa. My green card (which I had not received yet) was not asked for at all.
i guess different office different procedure. because when i tried to get a new SS card back in 2008, the only thing the rep asked to see was my GC. had BC and passport as well, but my application was rejected. forgot to renew my GC so it was showing expired.

My case has not been updated since the Initial Review back in May, but I have an interview letter, so I think what the person told you is probably right, however there are others on this board that could correct me.
Good Luck with everything
Thanks for replying BethandBilly. At least now I know that it's just not mine that is not showing up-to-date information.

Hi!
Kindly teach me how to use the NVC's hotline during weekend.. Cause I am having a hard time to follow the voice prompt instruction of using it to check the status of the documents we sent.... PLease help me....
when you call their hotline...this is the numbers you would press. 1 for the call to be in english. and then gives you choices. press 2...then another set of choices. press 3...this will connect you to a live person.
i had a hard time understanding their choices as well because what the ones i made did not connect me to a CS rep. so i wrote down the series of numbers i pressed to get to a live person.

So my husband reckons the lady in the tax office said i wont get a SNN & Card just a TAX ID NR because im not a citizen? Why in the devil would they ask on the visa documents if we would like a SSN?? Im confused?
Also even thought i ticked the YES box i have heard many ppl never recieved there SSN and had to get it themselves. Would ther ebe problems if i just went there and got it myself right away? Will i need my GC for a SSN..its just i want to get my drivers lisence done ASAP an dont wanna wait over a month for either.
yes you can get your SSN and yes you would need to bring your GC with you. that's the first thing the the SS window rep will ask you for.

Hi guys,
Around the last week of June this year, I received a letter indicating that they had updated my petitions (for wife and 2 minor sons) from an LPR to a USC petition. I checked the status on the receipt numbers for my petition on the USCIS website, but it still indicates on there that it is an "immigrant petition". I called USCIS to ask why it was still showing immigrant petition instead of a US citizen petition. I was transferred to their next level customer support. The lady i spoke with at the 2nd tier support just pretty much said that it doesn't matter what the website says, since i received a letter of confirmation, my petition is updated based on those letters. She did not even ask my any questions or look into my case information. She said that the website has just not been updated yet.
I'm just apprehensive about the answer i was given, so i was wondering if any of the VJ members know how long does it take USCIS to update their website when it comes to checking your case info? Isn't it whatever info is in their system for a receipt number is the one that gets pulled when you check status online?
Any input you guys and dolls might have on this is greatly appreciated!

is the NOA1 that i see people talk about in the forum...that's the first letter you receive from USCIS saying that they received the petition, correct? also, i keep seeing people indicate on their timelines regarding "email approval", or something to that effect. will they ask for your email address when the time comes?

Yes, $400 for each IV applicant.
thanks for the reply. so it will be the fees for the DS-230 plus the $70 for the I-864. is the fee for the I-864 for each petition as well? am i looking at any more fees from USCIS/NVC aside from these? sorry to ask...but being a state employee...and the governator filing for all state employee's out here in California to start making minimum wage (boooo!!!), i just want to know how much fees im looking at so that i can start making adjustments to my budget. im pretty sure his move will be a big FAIL...but just in case it's not, i'd like to get things saved up as early as possible.

I-130 - 355 per application
I-864 - 70 bucks, usually just 1 time payment of 70 bucks if the casefiles are 'married' together at NVC, otherwise 70 x 2.
DS-230 - 400 per parent
Then there is the cost of the medical exam, this varies.
So if I filed for my wife and 2 kids (both under age 21), would that mean I pay DS-230 of $400 x 3? is that correct?

As of today, the other 2 letters for my wife and youngest son came saying the same thing. That they have reviewed my request and updated my petition to a USC petition. Also did not indicate if I need to submit any documentation of my naturalization.

Hi everyone...this is a great forum. Lots of useful and helpful information for people like me going through the immigration/petition process.
Well, I am wondering if you guys can give me your input or experience regarding my situation. On the 17th of this month, I finally became a US Citizen (woohoo!!). But prior to becoming a citizen, I had submitted the I-130 for my wife and two kids. On the 21st, I called USCIS's customer service to let them know I am now a USC and that I want to upgrade my LPR petition to a US Citizen petition. The CSR rep I was speaking with asked for my receipt number, took some information from over the phone, and told me she was gonna submit my request for review. She then told me that I will be receiving a letter within 25-30 days. I asked her where I needed to send a copy of my Naturalization Certificate to. She said the letter im gonna receive would indicate to me where to send it.
Well, the other day, I received a letter for my oldest son regarding my upgrade request. The letter indicated that they received my request for review and upgrade and that my petition for that particular receipt number was upgraded to a Citizen Petition. Only one letter came so I called USCIS yesterday afternoon to ask why. CSR rep verified that 3 letters regarding the review and upgrade request was sent out on the 24th of this month. So that means I just haven't received the other two letters yet. But the first letter I received did not indicate for me to submit a copy of my Naturalization Certificate. Nowhere in the letter did it instruct me what to submit and where to submit....just said that my "petition has been updated as a Citizen petition.." and "it is now in a new visa category and is in active processing".
So...my question is, based on the wording on the letter and it not instructing me to submit anything, does that mean that my LPR I-130 petition is now a USC petition? I know the letter is in simple words...am I am looking into it too deeply, but I just want to make sure I don't have to send copy of my naturalization certificate since the letter did not instruct me to...and advised that my petition (at least for one of my sons) has been updated.
Any input from you guys is greatly appreciated!

When I got my citizenship last week, the SSA people were at the oath taking ceremony handing out their forms. They said they were doing us the courtesy so we didn't have to worry about getting it our SSN updated. which i thought was pretty cool because I was not looking forward to going to their office and falling in line. Just gotta wait a few weeks 'til my new SS card comes in the mail with the change in my name. If it does, then I know my file has been updated with them. If no card comes, I guess it's off to their office.

My interview was at Sacramento, CA..and i know you're looking for a member that has gone through the interview in Chula Vista. But my recommendation, I would just bring the documents you have ready just in case.
How quickly does USCIS update their case status website?

thanks ryna for your input (as well as you BethandBilly). i guess the best answer is to really just look at the website just for fun huh?
thanks. yeah the wife asked me why I use that name. first answer i told her was because her and the kids were not with me...that i felt lost not being with them every day. needless to say, i got major brownie points for that quick answer
but i do have to agree with you...i guess there's just some of us that feels that way. what can i tell ya...we're a rare breed my friend
