Hey all!
Haven't been here in a while, but thought I'd update. My vacation was really great, though towards the end I was yearning to come back. Time has flown by now, and now I have a job and have started school. Things couldn't be going any better. Once more thanks for all the support you've given us!
-
Thanks Harpa! I'll enjoy being home, especially for such a nice occasion!
-
Good news everyone! The card arrived today! I can now go home and be a part of my brother's wedding! I'm overjoyed! And just in time too, because we were planning on going to InfoPass tomorrow if the card didn't arrive today.
Just one more question. My card says Permanent Resident, although I though I'm a conditional resident? Is this what the card normally says? Or could it be a mistake? In any case the expiration date is in 2 years. So I think it's a conditional resident card.
Thank you very much for your patience! Can't tell you how much we appreciate everything you've done for us so far! Thank you!
-
Thanks very much Kathryn. What you said really helps us. I was trying to be polite last time, and I think I let the person just get away with it. We are checking InfoPass several times a day so when we see an open slot, we'll take it. I can't tell you how much I appreciate all your help!
-
Hello Harpa! Thanks for your quick reply! I'm so sorry, I was so flustered, I just quickly typed things and I'm sorry if it doesn't make much sense.
In 2 years we have to remove conditions, that is right.
I received a "Card Production E-mail", and the Welcome Notice letter on the mail. The USCIS site shows the application in "Post-Decision Activity" though.
We did explain to the lady at InfoPass that our GC had not arrived on the mail. She tried to blame it on us living on an apartment or moving out. Things which are not true, we live in a house and we haven't moved since we started the process. After this she said that the post office must have it and that I need to talk to the post office. Then my husband tried asking if there's any kind of tracking number if we were to contact the post office, to which she started talking about the application number. So I think this woman was just really not very competent, and not very helpful.
Thanks for your support!
We are really hoping it arrives soon, or a spot opens at the InfoPass, otherwise I think we'll just have to do a walk-in.

Hello all!
I thought our journey was finally over for the next 3 years, but it appears that it's not meant to be so. I received a Welcome Notice on Feb. 3 saying that I will be mailed a Permanent Resident Card soon. My brother is getting married at the beginning of March, and so I made travel arrangements to go back to my home country Feb 26. However, the GC is nowhere to be seen. When I went to the interview, I asked to get my passport stamped, and the IO said she couldn't do it unless I had a plane ticket. She recommended me to get a plane ticket and make an InfoPass, to get my passport stamped. I did all this and when we went to our InfoPass the lady there told us I should've already received my Welcome Packet and my Green Card too, so she couldn't stamp my passport. I thought the Welcome Packet was the Welcome Notice that I received, but now I am unsure. We need some advice on what to do next. My plane leaves Feb 26. We still haven't got any Green Card. I tried calling USCIS, but there wasn't anything they could do, since 30 days haven't passed already. And we can't make another InfoPass appointment because all the slots are taken. I'm starting to freak out a bit. Thanks in advance for any input!
Ah! Another curious fact, although I received the letter of approval dated Feb 3. the system has my date of approval as Feb 8. And so I have to wait 30 days as of Feb 8. to properly complain. *sigh*
-
Haha. Thanks once more! I think they do need to make a new "Green card" movie. The Proposal is kinda the same concept, but obviously they weren't in love at first, so it's different from all these stories. Maybe one day I'll get around to making a script and you might see our story in the big screen. lol
-
Well I'm really glad to have helped and enlightened you. That was one of the main reasons we wanted to start this thread, so other people won't make the same mistakes we did, or that they would copy the things we did right. So if at least our experience has helped one person, it was well worth it! Thank you so much for your constant support and your prompt answers whenever we had doubts.
-
Haha. Thanks! I was so excited that I wasn't even reading what I wrote... e-mail??? I meant message. Duh!
-
More good news! We had our interview today and our IO was extremely nice, joked with us, made us feel at ease. Asked a few simple questions and then said that our petition was approved and that we should expect to receive the Green Card in the mail in about 3 weeks. Whohoo!
-
Hello all, quick e-mail to let everyone know that we had our interview today and we were approved!!! We're beyond happy!!! It's such a good feeling! We'd like to thank you all for your patience and guidance. Without you guys, this journey would've been a much much tougher one. Thank you all!
-
Hey Kitty Congrats!! I thought you'd be more relaxed by now. Haha. From all I've seen here in the forum, you will be well prepared for the interview, I am sure. I won't tell you not to be nervous because I know you can't help it. But I will tell you this, I am sure when it's all over you'll think about how crazy you went and you'll laugh about it.
Good Luck!
-
It does. If you have one, you should put it there.

Thank you for sharing with us Juliava! I hope our experience is similar to yours!
-
Thank you Raffy! I will update you on the 27th! *fingers crossed*
-
thank you very much! I hope they'll come forward and tell us about their experiences. I am so freaked out right now. I thought I'd be calmer, but I guess I won't be 100% relaxed until I'm done with the interview.

You won't incur a ban if you didn't stay 180 days or more past your visa expiration. All the same, you probably won't be approved for re-entry if you were to leave the US because you would clearly have intent to immigrate, so don't leave until your green card is approved unless you have your AP already.
I knew I couldn't leave, and I wasn't planning to. In fact I didn't even apply for AP because I know that I wouldn't be able to re-enter. I am just concerned about the possible effects on the interview or approval/denial of the case.
Thanks for all your input!

This kind of reminds me of our case. So I shouldn't be reading the forum because it makes me freak out to hear all the different opinions after we've made our decision. But now that we are talking about overstay. I came here on a B2 my husband and I got married and then I overstayed the I-94 which ended in July. The plan was to mail all our packages in July, but as you can see we had a little bit of trouble and they kept being rejected. I-465 was finally accepted in September, therefore, all those months I was here on overstay. How negative is that? And what are the repercussions?
Sorry benita to "steal" your thread, but reading about this made me panic a little bit.
-
Here's my two cents: I arrived here in May for a month long vacation. I had visited before. When it was time to leave, my then bfriend and I didn't want to part ways one more time and decided to get married. We just ignored my flight back home, planned a small, intimate wedding and filed for AOS. After a few problems mailing the packages, USCIS finally got everything and the process started moving along.
Our interview date is for Jan 27th. and I've been told over and over again not to worry about intention on this forum, therefore, I am concerned with finding as much proof of our relationship and marriage being bona fide. If you decide to go AOS, now would be a good time to start finding all those old letters sent and received, old e-mails, even chat conversations if you have any, pictures, etc.
I wish you both all the best!
-
I'd say make an InfoPass first, have you tried calling the help line already?
I am more concerned about your address differences, especially because when you go to the interview they will ask where you live, I suppose, what will you do then? Which address will you say? I know it's a complicated situation. Very sorry about your father and I hope you find a way to expedite the AP.
My AOS is being processed in Alexandria and as you can see in my time line, things took a little bit of time, especially getting NOAs and such. If you just did your biometrics I'd think that in about 2 weeks they should be letting you know of an interview date. *fingers crossed*
-
I'll also be going to the office in Fairfax, VA. How was your experience there? Were they nice? I'm putting things together and starting to get ready, but obviously getting very anxious now... :S

We received interview appointment today on the mail! Now we have to get ready for Jan 27th!
Important Question about N-400 Interview
in US Citizenship General Discussion
Posted
We finally got to our three year mark in February! Because of how hectic life was with school & work, I didn't apply for naturalization right away, instead I waited until the Spring semester was through. I applied shortly after being done with finals and received my NOA within days. I was surprised at how quickly it all moved! To save some money on expenses, my husband and I decided that I should move back in with my in-laws while I finished school this Fall while he rented a room in the city in order to be close to work throughout the week. We started seeing each other less and have since grown apart. I'm now concerned for my interview process because I don't want to lie about my current situation, but at the same time I'm not sure whether I should be upfront and inform the IO - therefore stopping my naturalization process at the interview. My interview is in a week and I've started panicking.
Any insight into this situation would be greatly appreciated.
