  1. I married in November 2009, and filed joint married. I sent(email) my husband (Egyptian) the W-7 form, he mailed it back to me (with signature)with his passport and I submitted my taxes to an authorized IRS Office and they forwarded it to the IRS. I got back more of my taxes...but the mailing takes time. I also did all the paperwork myself. Don't look like you have a lot of time. Good luck!

  2. I might as well throw in my 2 cents of opinion in...

I agree with the physical aging of the eldest spouse. Honestly, when I was in my 20's I would've totally turned away from anyone in their 30's+. It was just a gross thought of being with someone "old". I always thought 5 years was the largest age difference that was accepted easily in the norms of American culture. I know lots of couples are 20+, but that was back in the day of the baby boomers because they had "special circumstances"...which include the financial survival of a family.

I've also witnessed high school staff dating/marrying students that have graduated, and frankly it is odd and plain ol' wrong for my ethics. I have no kids, but I would be against it if I was a parent in that situation. So, its difficult to see it from the other side.

I've met lots of guys online wanting to marry me, some as young as 20, which was just odd. A 20 year old in the US would never think that about me, obviously our standards are different that other countires. A lot of my friends online and my husbands friends have also told me that they would marry just to get out of their country. Just be careful and take care of yourself. I also agree we cannot help who we fall in love with, some people are just more lovable than others...and unfortunately some use that to their advantage.

    I wish everyone the best!

  3. Looks like you are doing great! Yes, this site does rock. I totally agree! I can't imagine what we would have done without it. We actually got our NOA2 about a month before we expected it so now we're trying to get everything together. At first it looked like my husband's documents would take longer to get than the things I need for AOS but now I've run into some little bumps getting things and so he's ahead of me. LOL! We're alright though because we don't want a May interview...we want one in the summer.

We've actually been apart for 34 weeks now...9.5 to go until the end of the school year so it's getting closer! Thanks for your well wishes. :)

I remember when it was about 3 months out and I thought I was just never going to make it. I cried most nights and every time my husband and I would talk it just seemed to go so fast. It still seems to go fast but knowing I'll be with him in a couple of months is really helping...not to mention being very busy getting everything ready. Just keep posting and there are some great people here. We've just got to all stick together!

By the way...the picture of the two of you is really sweet.

That's a long time, 43 weeks apart! I misread your initial post. Yeah, the people here on VJ are so helpful...experience speaks the best. Thanks for the compliment about our pix, that is our wedding pic I cropped. I wish you and your husband the best!

  4. -Will you be able to sit in while your husband is getting interviewed??

-Wow, must be exciting every week thats goes by, you two will finally be together! We all wish you happiness!

-I'm still waiting for my NOA2...any week now...I'm so ready for this, and want to get it over with asap!

    Have a Fantastic Friday!!

  5. Afternoon all!! Well you all need to just come to Arizona!! Beautiful day here...high will be 81 today! It's pool time again!

Today is Wael's birthday! We will celebrate this weekend if he doesn't have too much to study. Has his mid-term in Calculus today.

Sure hope everyone is having a good day so far.

Don't you love spring training!!!!!!!!!!!! Baseball is back...FINALLY!! How I LOVEEEEEEEEEEE the game!

Take care and have a wonderful day.

I'm in the Northern part of Arizona the high here is 61 today...perfect weather for running...and playing softball for me. Southern Arizona is too hot for me. I can barely hack summer in Egypt. Its funny cuz when I came back from Egypt last summer, landed in Phoenix, it felt like Phx was hotter! lol

    Happy B-day to ur hubby.

Glad to know everyone is doing well...things will only get better! I'm very much looking forward to getting my NOA2. Have the Terrific Thursday everyone!!

  6. Batta, have a great trip!

Charles...oh my I know the feeling. One day closer!

R and F I hope you had a great day.

W of M...I remember that time! Honestly, if you can start to work on gathering everything for the NVC that will keep you very busy and will help you get through the next part faster. Check the guides and then join up with the March NVC thread....lots of great info and there's SO MUCH to do with it that you won't be clock watching...seriously!

INGT...you're almost there! Sorry there are so many darned projects but ketchup should be fun.

As for here, another day down means getting closer to another week finished and now we are 9.5 weeks away to me being free to leave to Morocco. No tickets yet...kind of waiting on the interview date and hoping the prices will go down just a bit. They are a few hundred more than last year. :( My new classes this quarter are overall SO MUCH better behaved and so it's been a pretty nice week in the classroom. Of course it's 4th quarter so that may change as we get closer to summer. For now, it's just nice to have. Also, the days are going by pretty fast. It's been a good day overall. I hope for everyone else too.

I'm also a teacher. Yeah, I think they do get antsy as soon as spring roll around. Wow...9.5 weeks apart, that is super long.

We will be apart for about 5 months...I'm on my 3rd month, and it is getting difficult. I can imagine waiting for an interview date, you must be at the edge of your seat ready to jump! I hope you find some great ticket prices.

I feel like I'm going to get approved soon. I've already compiled my papers for my AOS. So far, I have the following documents:

    -tax transcripts for 2006,2007,2008

    -2009 1040 form & w-2s (filed as joint married)

    -letter from employer

    -AOS application

    -cover letter

-recent bank checking statment (not sure, do I include this?)

-check stubs oct 2009-march 2010 & salary contract for school year 2009-2010

I finished my husbands IV application...now just waiting for him to get the other docs, which he will start tomorrow. I thank everyone that has helped me with advise, this website rocks!

  7. For Egypt, I found the following information:

    Police Records

Available. Police certificates are obtainable by both Egyptians and non-Egyptians who were born in, or who permanently reside, or have resided in Egypt. The Police Certificate, called a "Criminal Status Record" (Saheefat al Hala al Gina'iyya), may be obtained upon application to the police station nearest the applicant's place of residence in Egypt, and normally takes between one and five working days. Applicants are fingerprinted on the reverse side of the application form. The certificate will indicate if the applicant has served prison time, but will not indicate detentions, arrests or convictions without imprisonment. An applicant abroad must apply to the nearest Egyptian consular officer who will fingerprint them and forward their applications to the Ministry of Interior, Cairo. Upon completion, the report is sent to the applicant. The latter procedure usually involves considerable delay. Since the certificates are eventually issued, they must be considered available.

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/frvi/reciprocity/reciprocity_3554.html

The applicant must submit police certificates that meet the following guidelines. The police certificate must:

    * Cover the entire period of the applicant’s residence in that area

    * Be issued by the appropriate police authority

    * Include all arrests, the reason for the arrest(s), and the disposition of each case of which there is a record.

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/immigrants/info/info_3195.html#police

    1. As far as the directions are concerned, my husband would first apply at his city of residence(hes in Egypt) and they mail it back to him after a max of 5 days?

    2. Does this report include all the places he had lived in Egypt for more than 6 months?

    3. Is there an expiration date on this certificate?

    4. Do you have any other suggestions about how to get through this process the fastest?

Thanks in advance for any post...We really need your input, no matter how small. Thanks again!

  8. Hi. The weather here is beginning to warm up...wanted to take my dogs for a walk, but have to stay at work late. Most of the January CR1 filers are getting their noa2...I'm still waiting for mine. With everyday that comes, I become so anxious! I have never in my life wanted the time to go by so quickly.

Hope all of you have a Wonderful Wednesday!!

  9. I found these two links which talk about EP:

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_4409.html

    http://travel.state.gov/visa/visa_4411.html

They say that its only available for Guangzhou, China and Montreal, Canada.

I guess the rest of us have to go the old fashioned way unsure.gif

Nice research! Well, there's EP out the window for me. But I will definitely call and ask them to email everything to me. Kind of glad it turned out like this, I was worried about finding scanners and them not having Adobe Professional in the computer labs in Egypt to merge the pdfs together.

Speaking of Egypt, does anyone have experience getting Police Certificates? My husband hasn't started on that. He went to school in Aswan and worked in Sharm for more than 6 months...so would he have to get a couple of reports, or is Cairo able to do one report for all of Egypt??

  10. Hey guys...I know most of you have gotten your approvals...and some are waiting...and are thinking about the next step...

    EP or NO EP??

I was actually going through another VJ'er timeline..." Amit and Melody"...and I even PM her...and she did this...she contacted NVC and told them to send her all the forms via email...(like she said...she wanted to communicate via email)...so they ended up sending her all the forms on her email...and she was then able to send all her documents via FedEx...so in that way...she never officially opted for EP...that meant...she didn't have to go through scanning all the docs...making the file size smaller...so it gets through to NVC....etc etc...

So that's another option...in this way...we can get the documents faster...and we are able to send all the documents back via Fedex...

She was able to complete her case in 22 days...

I am still debating...I am just worried about the files getting rejected by NVC server as they might be big...and going through all the hassels of scanning...blah blah...

But I guess through EP...we save money not fedexing/tracking documents...

Not sure...but just thought I will post it here...so everyone knows theres another option as well that has worked!

Great Information!! Thanks. Yeah, I wonder what is the max size NVC will accept. As far as I know, my Yahoomail can send 25MB...and I'm pretty sure my scanned.pdf files for my AOS will all fit in one email.

What is everyone planning to do?

  11. Congrats to all you that got your NOA2!! It looks like it won't be long for the rest of us January filers. I'll be definately reading up on your stats so that I'm prepared.

I've decided to file EP as well. Sounds easy enough *knocks on wood*.

My husband is going to begin getting his IV documents ready, so things are moving along slowly but surely. I guess I'll start scanning my documents. When I scan them, is it best to save as a .pdf? or .jpg?...and of course they would have to be saved as seperate attachment or does anyone know of some software to save as one file with multiple pages?

  12. I have a question about form I-864 the AOS # 8, 9, 10 and 21.

    8. I "X" the box "I am sponsoring the principle immigrant named in Part 2" and also check "Yes"? He's the only one I'm sponsoring.

    9. "I am sponsoring the following family members immigrating at the same time or within six months of the principal immigrant named in Part 2 above. Do not include any relative listed on a separate visa petition." I don't check this box...right?

    10. "Enter the total number of immigrants you are sponsoring on this form from Part 3, Items 8 and 9." I put "01"?

    21. "a. Enter the number you entered on line 10", "b. Yourself", and "c. If you are currently married, enter 1 for your spouse" So I would put 1 for a,b&c. And finally on "h. Add together and enter the number here. Household size:"...I would put 2 right? Because it says not to count anyone twice...where my husband would count for a and c.

I'm not sure if I filled these in correctly, could someone verify or correct me. I don't want to fill in anything wrong. I'm a US Citizen, its both our first marriage and hes the only one I am sponsoring as my spouse.

Thanks so much..and have a fabulous Monday!

  13. My husband is going to start on collecting his papers for his IV packet. I think were going to give the Electronic Process a try...since there are scanners in Egypt (lol, I just had to ask him.) I'm going to start scanning my papers. Got everything together, just collecting my check stubs as they come.

  14. This is a difficult day to get through...I've been on my spring break, going to sleep at 3am and waking up late! I'm just glad it will be April soon...can't we just fast forward to May 25th?

  15. Hello Everyone! I'm pretty new to this Regional discussion area. It looks like most of you are close to finishing up with NVC...congrats. To me, all this paperwork feels like an online course! Always reading up and making sure I don't mess up the process...cuz it'll just add more time!

I live here in Northern Arizona, the weather here ranges from 30-58F today...not so bad, wish it was a bit warmer so I can start running and walking my dogs again. Not to mention this cold I had for more than a week is finally ending.

Im just happy for every day that goes by and happier for every week that goes by! I will be going to Egypt toward the end of May to visit my husband, and return August 2nd...hopefully we will be coming to Arizona soon after me!

Have a great day, and I look forward to getting to know you through this thread :)

  16. We are planning a little mini vacation this summer once classes are finished. He has 2 wks vacation, so plans include

the Grand Canyon, northern California and San Diego. Will also head up to northern Nevada to see my twin....then on

to Twin Falls, ID to see my brother. What he really wants to do is go fishing!!!!!!!!!!!! Me....I am so not into fishing,

but did tell him will sit on the pier, dock or whatever and have my coffee and all will be well with the world!

Our plans are for next year to go back to Egypt for a visit. What's so exciting is he will go as an American citizen!!

Yeah, that would be cool for him to go back as an American citizen. Thats what I would like to do with my husband one day, and we can finally go into the casino together.

When my husband comes to me in the Fall...I'm going to take him to the Grand Canyon, California, Nevada, Colorado and show him how fabulous the US is...and of course back to Egypt to visit his family. I have this incredible urge to show him everything and experiece everything together. lol, I probably have to teach my husband how to fish and kayak. All the times we've spent together were the best times of my life! I cant wait to see him in May when I go back to Egypt for 2 months.

Are the "classes" your talking about for Naturalization? Are they required to take those classes or could we just purchase a book or study guide and take the test?

  17. Hi, yes Sedona...a spritual experience it is. I went in 2008 and was enthralled by it's beauty, then returned last July and proposed !! I'm going to try to get out to Arizona over Easter otherwise I won't see my wife for three months. I was there in Feb. It is hard. We've been doing the long distance thing since laste 2007.

I've been on the fence with the electronic filing or snail mail and we've decided to go for it and file electronically. I did look at the wiki pages and also posts. I've also PMd some people asking for additional help. I feel confident in doing it this way and I do think it'll shave some time off the overall process. At least I hope so. I can't wait to get the NOA2 approval so we can get on with the application for the visa. We''ve got 90% of the documents already scanned into computers so it's really just a matter of receiving word of the petition's approval, then obtaining the NVC case number, and then opting in to EP.

Are you thinking of filing electronicially?

I'm keeping an eye out for discounted air fare....gets expensive flying into the USA every two months or so... B-)

I'm just looking at another part of your post that I had't commented on.

You said your husband mailed you his passport and his tax information. However, this isn't required. Because he is the beneficiary, at NVC what is required is a photocopy of the bio page of his passport ie identification, picture, passport number, etc. That is the part they need but not his passport. Further, there isn't any requirement for his tax information; the I 864 that will get mailed out will be asking for your tax inforation. You have to be earning over the poverty guidelines for 2009 which sits at about $18, 202 - you'll need filing for taxes 2009 and two more years of past taxes. You also need a letter of employment or proof of self employment etc. See the guides for more information.

But again, his passport isn't required nor his tax information. It's also not a great idea to mail passports in general unless perhaps you have a signature requirement upon delivery. I don't know if it's illegal in Jordan or not.

    Anyway, for your info...

WOW since 2007!! That must've been difficult and expensive, thats definately love if you ask me! One more proof of bonafide marriage to add. That's so romantic that you proposed in Sedona. Once we visited the pyramids, and I saw a guy proposing by the pyramids...proposals are always so sweet and lovely. I don't get to see my husband for 5 months at a time. The tix for Egypt are around the 1500 dollar range. Hopefully this will be the last summer I have to got to Egypt for a while. Not to mention the longest flight I've ever been on. I already got my tix, and I'm always price hunting too...even after I bought my tix, just to see if I got the best price.

I was thinking about filing electronically...it all depends on the timing of the NO2. I'm leaving to Egypt during the end of May. I don't have any of my husbands documents except the DS3032 and DS230 completed. I'm not even sure if I can access a scanner in Egypt. He's going to start working on the translations for his birth certificate, passport, and police certificate in April. It would be awesome if we found a scanner to work with in Egypt, it would definately speed up the process. I'm going to keep the EP option open. I will keep tabs on the process, you seem very knowledgable about it...so if I have any questions, you'll be the first person that comes to mind.

Oh about the passport and tax information, that is pertaining to the W-7 I just filed today. I filed joint married, and I just submitted all the paperwork to the IRS office in Flagstaff. I was worried about getting a copy of his passport notarized, because my bank said that he had to be present. So I just took it to the IRS office, submitted everything and they copied the passport and gave it back to me. They said to wait 6-8 weeks. So, im glad that hurdle is out of the way. Now I have to mail it back to him so he can get a new one that will match his name on the marriage certificate. "Mohammed" on the marriage certificate and "Mohamed" on the passport. I don't think NVC will accept that.

Thanks for the info about the I-864, I got all that done...just collecting my pay stubs as they come. I think it could be any day for any of us! This truly is a journey that most married couples don't go through. Going through this process is probably equivilant to an online college course! LOL

  18. Yeah, Sedona is gorgeous! I wish I could take hikes and bike down there more often. Maybe when my husband gets here, we will have more time to travel domestically. These past years, I've always just left the country during my summer and winter breaks.

I read your going to file electronically...are you going by the information from wiki to opt in to file electronically? I hope we get through this process smoothly. I'm just waiting for the mail from my husband, he mailed me his passport and tax papers signed. From a previous post, a woman said it was illegal to mail passports from Jordan...I hope everyting is okay with the mail. Being away from our spouse is one of the most difficult things to experience.

I look at as a win win situation. You get to move onto the next phase. Work is being done and time is passing by, and it is inevitable that the rest of us will get through too. Again, congrats and I wish you a speedy NVC process. <img src="style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/good.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="good.gif" /><!--sizec--></span><!--/sizec--> <!--colorc--></span><!--/colorc--><!--fontc--></span><!--/fontc--><!--QuoteEnd--></div><!--QuoteEEnd-->
