  3. Wow....how do you show proof of consumation? As it is said all in ya bizness!

Immigration wants proof you were both in the same place and time after the wedding. They assume a couple that is together consumates the marriage. My wedding was viewed as consumated (for imigration) the second we met at the airport after poe. (No we did not have sex in the airport terminal. lol )

I will say my wedding night with the bride in Russian and I in the USA was very dull.

  4. I am sorry if this is too personal (in which case, ignore me please), but why did you choose to do that? If she was coming on a K1, why get married via proxy before she arrives?

Proxy weddings are valid for immigration from date of wedding once it is consumated. If we had waited for the visa paper work to process and got married in the USA in person my step daughter could not come as a following along child. My step daughter was turning age 18 before my wife could join me in the USA. Once she was age 18, my wife and I not married then we would have needed to file for my step child as an adult child. So a proxy wedding made it easier to get my step daughter here.

My wife's exhusband also would not sign papers to let my step daughter leave Russia. My stepdaughter could not come to USA till age 18 to join. The timing of her travel to join us was made easier because the visa for my step daughter would need to be issued with in 12 months of my wife's visa. We did not have to worry about the exact timing of her coming, the need of papers from ex husband or her finishing last year of high school after arriving.

I hope my short version of why is not to short to follow.

By the way on the lighter side, my step daughter goes to embassy in Moscow for visa interview as a following child. She goes alone. Her mother is in USA and at 18 is able to travel without a problem. At the embassy, the other Russians assumed she was coming to the USA to married. Her paper work for the interview was about 20 pages. She was waiting for the interview with the people waiting for k1 visas, The other Russians would sit down with large piles of pages near her and see her small number of pages. They told her she need more document for the visa. She did not answer them. She had the interview and was approved. As she left, she walked by the people who had told her she need needed more documents. She smiled and said, I was approved. At that point a few faced looked shocked. (My step daught can tell the story had make people laugh. I am not so good at it.)

  5. Help, my Russian step daughter has got the letter stating the her green card is being issued. However, the agent who did the interview has incorrectly changed her paper work to list her Patronymic as a middle name. She has no middle name. We explained at the interview that a Patronymic was not a middle name, but it has been listed as a middle name.

How can we get this corrected?

  6. My step daughter came as a follow along to my wife's k1. Wife came 11/10, green card 6/11. Stepdaughter came 1/12. We filed the adustment papers in early spring. We got a rft and replied. Today, they set an interview for 10/16/12. The problem is step daughter's passport exp 9/28/12. So we can not use it to go interview. Russia will take 3 months to give new passport. USCIS will not move interview because it is not seen as a void reason to move it. We have appointment 9/24/12 to talk about the problem.

We can not get SS card or use her passport for a state id card. So we have no way to get a valid id for the 10/16 interview. We can not even get her into the building.

    Any suggestions?

  7. When I first mailed the k1 forms, I did not use tracking or have it signed for. After one week I started looking for the check to be cashed. Nothing happened for months. So I needed to resend everything and this time I did it over night with tracking. I have no idea where the first set of paper work ended up in the system. At the time my wife was not very happy with me. We lost months waiting. :(

I would never recommend doing anything but mailing with tracking. I can believe he dropped it off at the office. The problem is they are not set up for that. They are setup for it to come in the mail. 8 years ago I worked for a bank processing credit card payments. If it was not mailed with the return stub, it was a mess. We had no way to take a walk in payment. A walk in payment might be taken, but getting into the system correctly would be a problem. I assume the same is true with government. He was trying to save time and money of the postage. It did not work. I would suggest you trust him and make sure in the future everything is mailed as instructed.

  8. I have to pay to cover all the costs of my application. Ok fine, but process it in timely way. I am paying all the cost of my paper work, but they process it like I am getting it done at no charge.

In the 1970s I got my first passport is less than 3 weeks. It was not a rush job. My last renewal was a full 13 weeks. Our government has slowed, is fat and not working well. My wife is from Russia and they process things much faster. They may have higher corruption level, but things do get done. Her passport processed in 4 weeks. I am not impress with any part of the process here. It is and has been slow with very unprofessional handling of issues.

  9. IF YOU FILED AS SINGLE BUT ARE MARRIED FILE AN AMENDMENT TO CORRECT THE RETURN ASAP!!!!!! Remember you are married and if you sign the return stating single you are NOT filing a true, correct and complete return. And in signing the return you as stating "Under penalties of perjury, I declare that I have examined this return and accompanying schedules and statements, and to the best of my knowledge and belief, they are true, correct, and complete." (From 1040 form at bottom where you sign)

  10. If you are married, you can fill as joint or married filling separate. The only time you can do other wise is living separate every day of the last half of the year and have dependents, you would be able to file as head of household. YOU CAN NOT FILE SINGLE, IF YOU ARE MARRIED.

You can file joint if the one is living outside the USA. See IRS pub 54, page 6 for information. http://www.irs.gov/pub/irs-pdf/p54.pdf

You cannot get a SS for the one living outside the USA see the following from pub 17:

"Nonresident alien spouse. If your spouse is a nonresident alien, your spouse must have either an SSN or an ITIN if:

    You file a joint return,

You file a separate return and claim an exemption for your spouse, or

Your spouse is filing a separate return.

If your spouse is not eligible for an SSN, see the next discussion.

Individual taxpayer identification number (ITIN). The IRS will issue you an ITIN if you are a nonresident or resident alien and you do not have and are not eligible to get an SSN. This also applies to an alien spouse or dependent. To apply for an ITIN, file Form W-7 with the IRS. It usually takes about 6 weeks to get an ITIN. Enter the ITIN on your tax return wherever an SSN is requested.

If you are applying for an ITIN for yourself, your spouse, or a dependent in order to file your tax return, attach your completed tax return to your Form W-7. See the Form W-7 instructions for how and where to file.

An ITIN is for tax use only. It does not entitle you or your dependent to social security benefits or change the employment or immigration status of either of you under U.S. law."

IF YOU FILED AS SINGLE BUT ARE MARRIED FILE AN AMENDMENT TO CORRECT THE RETURN ASAP!!!!!!

  11. On my last visit to Natasha before our marriage, I returned from Moscow through Atlanta. I got held up for 15 min. because my US passport did not have a return stamp from US POE on my earlier visit to Russia! My only comment to the agent was "I returned at JFK. I gave them the passport. They looked and gave it back. If you do not like no stamp in the passport, you need to talk to JFK. I do not tell you or them how to do your job." He was not sure what to do. When I booked my wife's flight, I made sure no POE in Atlanta. If they gave me a native born USC a hard time over a entry stamp from an earlier trip, I feared what they might with my wife's K1.

After reading about your problem, I will not use Atlanta for POE on any trip! Your problem is over the top, I recommend contacting a lawyer.

  12. Thank you both for the replies.

The part I'm looking at now is actually the part where it asks for the names and addresses of her past employers for 5 years. Unfortunately, there are no boxes to fill in.

Ah! Enter it in the format you use for a USA address.

  13. When filling in the addresses for the G-325A, how should the Russian addresses be formatted? Take the example Russian address:

655017 Россия, Республика Хакасия, г. Абакан, пр. Ленина, 67

It translates in Google Translate to:

655017 Russia, Khakassia, Abakan, Lenin Avenue, 67

Reformatting into American style would be:

67 Lenin Ave Abakan, Khakassia Russia 655017

Would this be correct? Please advise :)

You put in the street and number box: 67 Lenin Ave

You put the city box: Abakan

You put in province or state box the Republic name: Khakassia

You put in the Country box: Russia or Russian Federation

By the way when we filed the form, we used the country of birth listed in the passport. For my wife it was USSR. For my step daughter it was Russian Federation.

    best of luck

    Dale

  14. The major difference between food in the USA and in the middle east and north Africa is the freshness: people are used to prepare their meal with fresh things only. When you're raised with fresh tomato sauce and you're given canned sauce, it's kind of a shock...

I didn't move to the US yet, but after a couple trips, I can tell you I'm gonna be very picky about where I buy food and what I put in my basket! No way I'll get my grocery from Costco and the like... Compared to French food, everything you find in this kind of stores is so totally tasteless. I remember having a roasted chicken at my mother in law that just tasted like cardboard :crying:

When possible, try to avoid prepared, ready to use food and prefer fresh ingredients. It does taste much better, and it's also a lot healthier.

I'm also thinking that the type of spices that are used in Moroccan cuisine and Mexican cuisine are completely different, it could be hard to get used to it too.

i agree. We grow our own veggys in the back yard. ya, it is extra work, but worth the taste difference. Compare fresh tomato vine ripe with a thin skin vs green thick skin which is gas treated to be red. I could go on and on...

  15. Food and cooking are major adjustments. It is never easy and takes some effort.

When my wife came to the USA from Russia, she had learned much english. However, she knew very very few food words. So I cooked the first few days 100%. She was very upset, not with my cooking, but with not being able to do it. After a few weeks she could do it all. I picked up a few cookbooks on Russian foods. With those we were able to create food that tasted like her home.

There were few problems with food. The hardest was the onions. The type she was use to were very mild. Here they were much stronger.

I had spent a total of about a month in Russia before she moved here. I had eaten the main dishes of she was use to and told her my favorites. Even doing that we had adjustment. One year here, we are able to match the taste of Russian food from her home town. We cook a mix of foods. Some meals are all Russian, some all USA.

Hang in there, it is a learning experience for both people. It really does get better.

  16. I (USA national) am married to a Russian national and she has her US green card. We were planning to visit the UK for a few days on a trip to Russia to see relatives. However it is canceled.

For me to visit the UK or Canada for 5 days it is simply show my USA passport at the POE.

If we wanted to visit most Common Wealth nations like Canada, she need only show US green card and Russian passport. No visa needed for short visit.

The UK want visa for 5 day visit. OK. So we look at the visa form and they do not want simple tourist type information. They want information about our USA income, our saving, etc!!! We are not wanting to move there just visit. My income is none of the UK governments business. I am a USA born national and am very offended that a close so called friend of the USA treats me this way.

So to everyone with a UK passport, (including the Queen and her family, the PM and the rest of the UK government), I will need to see the same information if you ever wish to visit my private home. Clearly, I need to be sure your visit to my home is not your trying move into my home. I am sending a letter to the Queen, PM and UK Washington embassy stating the same thing. (I know they would never be wanting to visit my private home, but I am so offended that I want them to get equal treatment to the treatment they give my family.)

  17. If the wedding is USA proxy and the couple have consumated the wedding, the k3 is process where every the spouse lives. They would not travel to the USA for an interview to be issued a visa to the USA.

In 2009, I attempted to set up a Greek wedding with my now Russian wife, I was told by the embassy she would need to return to Greece for the interview. We were looking at a k3 at that time.
