  1. My interview is scheduled for 8:30 am and I plan to arrive around 7 am... I know the appointment letter says do not arrive more than 20 minutes in advance, but all the reviews say to get there early. I'm sure 7:30 or so should be fine for a 9 am interview.

    Good luck tomorrow!

Thanks! Good luck to you too! Maybe we'll see each other there.

  2. Because, as many of us who live/lived on the border are very familiar with, both Americans and Canadians commute daily to work and school across each other's border. It's not unusual at all. That's one of the main reasons they instigated the NEXUS program. There are special commuter lanes where we can bypass the regular Customs & Immigration lanes. In fact, there's a dedicated commuter bridge connecting New York State to Ontario which only NEXUS subscribers can use.

They have all been fairly knowledgeable about the immigration process whenever I've spoken to them. Some have their own sets of rules though if you catch them on a bad day.....

  3. Question 35 on Part I of the DS-230 askes to list all previous visits or residence in USA. Does that mean as in ALL your life or just since you met you significant other? I had visited the US to visit relatives way back when I was 16 and then again at 17, then went to Hawaii in 1996. When living in Ont I crossed quite regularly just for Sunday drives. At that time passports weren't needed, just a drivers license or birth certificate. What do you all think? How did some of you answer that? Thanks

I listed all the my past trips from 6 months back. I cross about 2-3 times a week to the US. My list was quite long....after about 30 dates listed, I wrote and small paragraph (on an addendum) about how my husband and I have been traveling back and forth for 5 years to see each other. I also explained that living only 30min from the border, it is impossible to list every trip I have made in my life to the States.

They accepted my DS-230 with no issue.

  4. Heather & Matt, I haven't been around on VJ in months, but I'm interviewing in Montreal on Tuesday morning, so I hope we both have good results this week!

    GOOD LUCK!!!

Good luck to you too! You have the same interview date as another VJer that I met at the medical, dvkk16.

  5. I am not sure about the whole staying in Canada more then the states but I do know that Sara Jane continued to work in Canada for a bit. She did the daily drive back and forth to my knowledge so at least it is possible to still maintain work in Canada.

I plan on doing the same for at least six months after moving in with my husband. To my knowledge, after talking to a couple of Customs Officers, it is okay to cross back and forth to work. One border guard said that I should keep my job in Canada after the move cause I would have a hard time doing what I do in Buffalo.

  6. Back at the hotel and I dont know why im more excited to update everyone here at VJ than my own family. But shannon passed her visa interview it was soooo easy. Ill post something a bit more detailed later once we both come down off the high.

    Congratulations!

  7. Everything looks good to me. I was just as neurotic. Someone here said that people are the most nervous about the interview, but it actually ends up being the easiest part of the entire process. I can't agree with that more. I was so nervous about the interview, I was ####### about putting my binder together, getting to the consulate early and so on. The entire process took less than two hours and our interviewer was great and it was indeed, the easiest part of the entire process.

    You'll do just fine. :)

Thanks for the support. These past 2 nights of sleeping have been awful...I'll be glad when we can relax after it's done.

  8. You do not need to show proof of your residence in Canada. (I see you are from St. Kits...I moved from Welland :) )

    Don't forget your passport!

Right! We are actually driving to Ottawa tomorrow to visit my brother til Sunday then we'll drive to Montreal. We're taking the upstate NY way so my passport will already be with me.

I am originally from Sudbury, but moved to St. Kitts over 5 years ago. I like Welland due to hearing people speaking French all the time...reminds me of back home

  9. Just finished (hopefully) my binder for the interview. I realize alot of these documents they will already have but I have copies just in case. Do I need to show proof of residence in Canada (rent receipts, utility bills, etc...) Am I missing/need anything else?

-copy of birth certificate (long and short form)

    -copy of marriage certificate

    -copy of police clearance

    -2 passport pictures

-copy and original of husband's birth certificate (just in case..)

-tax transcripts for past 3 years

    -2010 W-2

    -employment verification letter

    -I-864EZ signed

    -DS-230

    -NOA1, NOA2, I-130, G-325A

    Evidence:

-2 affidavits from family/friends of relationship

-a year and half of phone records

-cards from Matt, cards addressed to both of us, cards from our wedding

-life insurance policy with Matt as beneficiary

-small but detailed photo album of our life together

  10. Congratulations Phel!

You don't have to bring any envelope, they take care of that. The documents I think that's inside of your DHL package are the documents you sent in to USCIS and NVC, your passport will be inside of the DHL envelope plus the sealed envelope you bring to the POE. Do not open that and do not pack it with your belongings.

    Thanks for the advice!

  11. The guides and Montreal consulate information page need to be updated.

done, I think I did it a week ago.

My question was did we need to bring an envelope for them to ship it back through DHL? :star:

  12. Yes the fingerprints are done at the Interview but when you poe they do a quick one using your pointer finger I think lol I cannot remember.

The i-94 should be given to a k-1 , stapled into the passport when you do the poe so make sure to clarify that you got it.

We did the CR-1, so do I need to worry about I-94?

  13. I've actually found dealing with the border guards to be frustrating. I find their knowledge to be hit and miss. When my husband did POE back in January, the guard was talking about knowing what he was doing and on and on. Then my husband didn't get fingerprinted (which resulted in a biometrics appointment early this month), and now I realize that he doesn't have an I-94 card. I asked him if the guard gave him anything and he said no. When I mentioned an I-94 card he had no idea what I was talking about.

We're most likely going back up to Montreal Saturday for a day trip to stock up on a few Canadian only items, pay some bills, and then import his car (he "misplaced" the letter from Mitsubishi). I'm assuming I can deal with the I-94 issue then.

    J-

Aren't the fingerprints done at the interview? They do it again at POE time?

The I-94 is attached to the passport before you receive the green card, correct? I should be asking for this at my POE?
