As the titles reads, I arrived 4 weeks ago on an IR-1 (my GC arrived today!), but I still have not received my SSN in the mail. I ticked the box on my DS-230 asking for one to be generated/sent to me, how long does it usually take?
I don't have time during the day to go to my local SSA Office and I knew I wouldn't which is why I ticked the box for it to be sent to me
mostly it takes 3 weeks but u can wait 4 weeks if u want
Its common even all people clicked the box some of them did not received it ( just like me )
So i went to local SSA office and applied one it took a week me to receive SSN
If u cant go to the local SSA office then give time but i would not wait that long
good luck

Mari,
I really have no idea even uscis officer cant solve this problem i think i need to make an infopass appointment..
Wow!! so happy for both of you...
Best wishes both with all my heart
-
Mari,
Hi how u doing ?
Hahaha thank you so much!!! what a nice smile lol
Anyways i think my papers stuck somewhere bec uscis officer told me she cant see any information about my case when she entered my A#..
I m going to make an infopass appointment
-
thanks. She entered from JFK, I also reside in NY, so can the delivery for GC and SSN be quicker than 3weeks as you mentioned.
My wife also told that the entry from JFK was almost with no conversation, very easy. she only handed in the envelope given to her from US consular at Turkey, that is all.
Yes She should received her welcome letter GC and SSN
(For SSN if you clicked the boxes in DS 230 form you will receive it)
if its already has been more than 3 weeks that you did not received welcome letter GC or SSN
You can go to the local SSA office and apply one (SSN)
Sometimes welcome letter and GC takes longer i would say wait for a month if you still did not received then just contact to uscis
I hope she already gave to immigration officer that handed envelope that she got us consular from turkey...when she was POE JFK
Goodluck

Try contacting the airport and checking with them.
Or make an infopass appointment like USCIS suggested.

I looked on my town's website and they had a link to the state's job search site and that's where I was looking for jobs. You should do the same thing.
There's also Monster.com which is a national job search site.
Thank you...

Hello everyone,
I finally am with my wife, she was able to go thru the interview.
Is there any other forms need to be filed for green card to arrive where we live in US, or that is something automatically taken care of?
She was approved, will she be receiving her card upon her arrival (after submitting the envelope give to her from abroad consular)?
Should I wait for green card to come for social security card or can I just take it now?
Thanks.
Hello,
Congrats!! you are with your wife now!!
I guess you already married at turkey if its so your wife suppose to get her welcome letter GC and SSN in the mail box that you inform..(SSN if you clicked the boxes DS-230 form)

Make your way to O'Hare and ask around - they hire plenty of people to help as assistants (wheelchair assistance, language assistance). There's several companies.
Thank you
I have that broken english do you think is going to work that way?

Hi,
I entered the US 5 weeks ago using my CR-1 and my POE was Chicago.
I was under the impression that I should receive my permanent resident card in the mail within 3-4 weeks of entry, and before that I should receive a welcome letter from USCIS. It's been 5 weeks now, and no sign of welcome letter or green card.
Also, although they were supposed to automatically issue me a SSN and send the card to my home address (I confirmed the address with the officer at the POE), I waited 3 weeks and did not receive anything and I went to my local social security office and they told me that no number had been assigned to me and they asked me to fill out an application and after I did that I got my social security card in the mail in less than a week.
I'm not sure if my paperwork is just sitting in a pile at the Chicago Airport or if there is some other delay, but it seems like they aren't processing my paperwork within the expected timeframe. It seems strange to me that it's been 5 weeks and I have not gotten any contact at all from USCIS. Should I just be more patient an wait longer for the green card, welcome letter etc. Or should I follow up on this personally? Would calling USCIS help? Is there any specific number I should call them on? Or do I have to make an infopass appointment?
Thanks a lot for your help!
Hi friend,
I also have the same problem i think this Chicago ohare workers sucks my POE time was June 9 i never received welcome letter GC or SSN finally it has been almost 2 months
anyways after 3 weeks later that i arrived usa we went to apply SSN card the officer told me he cant see me in their system contact the USCIS then come back 2 weeks later when we get home we called to uscis and talked to person i told them i did not received welcome letter GC SSN etc etc then she got my A# then also we updated my home adress which still the same...
It has been 2 weeks now from we called uscis i still did not get a thing i called them yesterday talked to a person she said my process still on and have not done pending yet i need to wait another 2 or 3 weeks bec so many applicant waiting for bla bla....
I would really say CHicago OHare sucks .....
Anybody get their welcome letter or GC yet ?
