  3. Pleasantries in Turkish (from Turkish Class)

    Pleasantries

In Turkish there are set pleasantries for certain occasions. Learn a few and you can get away with knowing fewer words in Turkish! .

Afiyet olsun! af-ee-yeht ul-sun Said to someone who is eating or has just finished eating (literal translation: Bon Appetite/ Let Health Be).

Elinize sağlık! el-ee-nee-ze saah-lik Said to praise someone's cooking (literal translation: Health to your hands).

Kolay gelsin! koh-lay gel-sin Said to someone working (literal translation: May it come easy).

Geçmiş olsun! gech-mish ol-suhn Said to someone who is ill (literal translation: Get well soon/ may it pass).

Çok yaşa! chok yash-ah Said to someone who just sneezed, similar to god bless you (literal translation: Live long).

Sıhhatler olsun! suh-hut-ler ol-suhn Said to someone who just took a shower, or to a guy who just got a haircut or shaved (literal translation: Let there be health)

    Excelent Job Mari !!!

    @Michele,

Believe me i do understand how you feel but try to be calm he will be fine.,

Thank you for good wishes about my job

  4. LOL... Bahachell.... go to work! That keeps the mind off non-productive bouncing on walls. And, why not just tell us "after the fact" the outcome? Yanno, something like: Approved! Or AP? Easy peasy sistah!

Now please, sit still gurl before you knock over somebody's cay! LOL!!

@Ashley: How did you install a Turkish Keyboard? Is that on your Ipad? Or a PC? I have seen apps for Ipad, but not for the pc.

    How's the AmeriTurks today?

    Mariye Yenge

I m doing great i am also from izmir so my family is ok

but there are so many people died :(

i m trying to follow the news at CNN to see whats going on

I got my first pay check :)) even its not that much but i m working i hope i will get fulltime worker in the compay

    hey Mari yenge,

i think u can change your keyboard it in your PC,

    Michele,

Do NOT worry!! everything will be fine and he will get his visa

of course still need a good luck

  5. Yup, everyone is ok. We're Izmir and Ist here. I've been meaning to ask some of the native turks about some conjugation.

Using aile as the root word, how would you conjugate for the pronouns? I know ailem = my family, ailen = your family

his/her/it's family= onun ailesi our family = ailemiz

your family formal = sizin aileniz ,

    their/its family = onlarin ailesi,

Bonus question, if you were to say, our cats would you say = kedimizler or kedilermiz kedilerimiz(I understand vowel harmony just too lazy to switch to the Turkish keyboard on my computer, so you could just explain which would come first and why it would help me tons. Bulut explained this before but my American sentence structure doesn't translate well when to more complex Turkish sentences.)

    Cok tesekkur ederim!!!!

Thanks everyone. I appreciate the warm welcome. I miss my lady very much and hope to have her here soon. Mya is from Kemer, Antalya. I met her while on vacation with friends. I had no idea I would leave my heart there. For Mariye, I call her my little kirpi. After running across a family of them together the first day we spent together. Funny I know.

There is so much information to read up on. You have all been so busy. I will let you know if I have any questions. I appreciate the offer. Good luck everyone.

  6. THANK YOU! I know right its so close! Ok so Bahadir says he wants to answer questions perfect..he is perfectionist:) He wants to answer questions in english that he can answer perfect and some in turkish if he cant think of right words in English....Will this be ok? He is so much a perfectionist that he says "If i dont answer in right tense...." Was the interviewer someone who speaks turkish and English? Yes he got a room at the hotel across from the embassy! He is ready to arrive early. What questions did they ask you?

No check?? Oh I didnt knowa paycheck was involved I have to get password again:)

    Michele,

The officer in the embassy he is already asking to you before he starts to interview would you like to speak turkish or english they can speak both i think he will be fine if he cant answer in english then he can answer in turkish thats ok..

i think i was number in 3 who interviewed me he was a good and a nice man i was so freaking nervous when i was infront of the window but the office was keep calling me sir!! then that made me confortable anyways he asked would you like to speak english or turkish i said it does not matter then we continued speaking english..

Make sure you always looking at him and smile you know.then answer simple dont talk much as long as he did not ask anything do not give more information as long as he did not asked about

of course i brought bunch of evidence but thats for sure they cant check all of it even i said i have more pics he said oh oh thats all enough ( bec. we were already sent it when we were in NVC stage)

Here are questions what he asked me

when your wife visited you last time?

does she have a kid ?

how old is he or she ?

    are your wife is working?

sometimes they are asking like where does this pic taken ?

then he said have a nice trip and gave me a white paper to pay for UPS

  9. Baris,

I'm happy to see your post today! How was your flight back? I really like the direct flight from LAX - IST - Adana. It really makes a huge difference for me as I could sleep straight through from LAX on over.

And, if you get a chance still call Ky in Adana! He'd love to hear from you I'm sure as he asked about you and your father when I arrived. Now, he's got his tractor and loves it. Also, he's now planting on his tarla or did last week right after I left. If you don't have his number I will email it over to you. You remember how hot it was for you when you were there? Well when I went (the day you were flying out, I flew into Adana), it wasn't too bad. Ky insisted it was "cold weather" and anything cold like dondurma, ice or ice cay? He always says, "All Turkish love hot things... you eat cold things you get sick" LOL

AmeriTurks: Winter flights over are not so expensive -- I think it was United, but prices were $499 +taxes of course, RT ... for Dec. It seems that THY is the pricey one but I'm going to keep looking.

Anybody get a better price than this?

    Mariye Yenge

Heyyy Mari i agree with you about winter flights over its gonna be more cheap and the price you you talked about i dont think there is more cheapest than this and the point is THY

Who says turkish does not like cold i dooo tell Ky if its summer in adana lets see if he can drinks a water without ice or not cold

  10. THANK YOU BARIS!!! 9 days 4 hours!!! Any advice on the interview would be awesome! I am so happy to have been with you all for the last year! Hope everything is great for you!!

Hey Michele haha omg!! i cant believe almost just a week left for interview..

Ok i can give you some advice.

He needs to be front of the embassy at least 45 or 30 mins bec there is might be a long line.

Before he gets in to the embassy he should prepare his passport, medical result, pics, and evidence.

If he can speak english very well i would suggest him to speak english during interview time.

when officer asks him a question he have to look at the eye of person and answer the question simple but certain

He really does not need to be nervous (PS; even i m telling this i was a shuch nervous)

but after the interview i felt so light before the interview i was feeling like somebody sittin on my should who is thousand pounds :D

    Good luck

Hey guys--its Veronica again! We got our interview data for December 14! whoohoooo!!! Thanks for all of your support and positive energy!

  12. OK now that we're married....

Why do I feel overwhelmed again with new paperwork? LOL The reality check is that I have other things on my plate that has been eating up my time (deal with them one by one, right?) Anyways, I have been trying to put new pic but I can't bc VJ says pic too big. Anyone know how to load them on here?

@ KD and Rj: Did you say that you were going back to visit Izmir? Or, was I dreaming (I still have jet lag I think).

@ Baris: How's work going?! Ky still wants to hear from you so if you still have his number, give him a call. In fact, he asked about you (he thought you were still there in Karatas).

@ Bahachelle: Hey your days are numbered missy! Interview comin.... You two ready?

@ Jen (Tuana): When you get there would you be so divine and eat an simit for me? LOL!! You know I've been there twice and twice I have didn't get one? Instead, I prefer pide and those fresh big crusty loaves that are chewy on the inside. Oh, and Adana Belediye ... expect the official who has to stamp your final doc "to be having a sit down, come back in 3 hours"... only to find out when you do, they tell you come back tomorrow! We figured when they have a sit down, so do we and go have cay and food somewhere by the lake.

@ Kelly: Now things should move easily for you two! Very happy for you gurlfriend!!

@ Tolsab: Do you have jet lag too?

@ Anybody who is new to the Turkish Forum: Welcome to the Kahvesi Thread!!

    Mariye Yenge

hahaha No Mari you were not dreaming i said i will but of course not soon yet bec first i need to put things here together about life then i will

You both are looking so cute together i wish it will last forever

  13. In Turkey, if you are married, it is reflected on one's Birth Certificate... since we were NOT married there, (as I mentioned before) we were married HERE in the US and when we had our interview, they require that our marriage be on his birth certificate. I was simply asking if anyone has any info on how to get this done here in the US.

What do you mean "its a little too late for that?

    Hey Kelly,

I found this and tried to translate it from turkish to english i hope its helps

Abroad, the Turkish or Turkish citizens and foreign nationals of men and women, in the presence of the competent authorities of the host country can marry marry. 16. Thank you for blessıngs! We have spent the last week doıng more and more papers, more than I'd lıke to thınk about! We are now offıcıal on the Nufus Kayıt Ornegı and Ky got a new ID card wıth 'Evlİ' ın the lıttle box. He says, 'Thıs card good card... you see? It says Evli now' lol. We stıll have to go and get the TR apostıle and from the US Consulate hıs document for the US TIN number (for taxes). I got my TR 'yabancı' number so we could open our bank account here. The Gov't offıces here have been really good to us and whıle there can be a lıttle bıt of runnıng around to locate exactly where we are suppose to go, our requests are satısfıed.

OK I love the fresh breads here and kavaltı ıs my favourıte meal. We went to a really good restaurant and Ky dıd ask for ıce for me. They brought us a lıttle bowl of ıt, whıch ıs the MOST ıce I have seen ın thıs country ever! So, I took a pıc of ıt because I am certaın I wıll never see that much around here agaın. lol

We went to Ky's tarla (fıeld) last nıght and had a sıt down (cay and baklava) wıth Bıg Baba (owner of farmland). Bıg Baba has Kongals and Ky lıttle bıt afraıd of them... they loved me on the other hand as I fed them baklava and nıcely petted theır ears. So when Ky trıed to come close to me? They would guard me! lol He had me stop so he could show me the fıstık (peanuts to yankees). They grow ın the ground lıke root vegs and he plucked a plant out so I could taste them. Really good raw! Sınce ıt was dark somethıng moved ın the plants whıch I screamed and jumped and so dıd Ky! LOL LOL

I have to go as I am beıng called for famıly dınner....

    Love to all,

    Marıye Yenge and Ky

    Hey Mari,

do not worry everything will go fast in turkey bec our goverment is working faster enough than USA goverment.

Hhahah yes this little box says Evli which is means married.Ohh yummy i missed the way having turkish breakfast

i m just waiting we will see whats gonna happen

    Michele,

Izmir does not have mosquito like you will feel bothered.

Adana and Izmir having different type of weather

Yes most of pepole are not using in turkey Ice even in the restaurant they wont offer you as long as you did not ask for it

Michele he really does not need to look so formal at the interview he can wear jean and shirt but i would suggest him to wear a nice cloth of course i dont mean a suit

  18. how can I log in electronically at NVC

I think our country does not allowed to do it electronically

if you have ur case number which is starting with ANK...

then you also need your INN number

So you can click this link

    https://ceac.state.gov/CTRAC/Invoice/signon.aspx

first you have to pay the fees when u log in if you see both fees are PAID then you are ready to send AOS and IV package to NVC
